Maybelline Cool Crush & Seashore Frosts 24HR Color Tattoo Eyeshadows Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Maybelline Cool Crush 24HR Color Tattoo Eyeshadow
Maybelline Cool Crush 24HR Color Tattoo Eyeshadow ($5.99 for 0.14 oz.) is a shimmering, bluish-silver with a frosted, metallic finish. It had semi-sheer to semi-opaque color payoff. Because it’s on the sheerer side, it may be better as a base underneath your favorite powder eyeshadows than as a standalone color. The consistency is thinner and has more slip than the permanent range of Color Tattoos. The lasting power on me wasn’t as good as the permanent range; there was some faint creasing after ten hours (no primer). Sephora Sweet Dreams is bluer, powder. Maybelline Icy Mint is bluer, not as cool-toned. Bobbi Brown Iced Blue is slightly bluer. Urban Decay Strip is darker, bluer, and a powder. MAC Water & Ice #1 is more silvered and a powder. MAC Free as Air is darker, bluer. Giorgio Armani #12 is more silver and a powder. Benefit Blue My Mind isn’t as cool-toned. Bobbi Brown Iced Blue is lighter, less blue, and a powder. See comparison swatches here.
Maybelline Seashore Frosts 24HR Color Tattoo Eyeshadow ($5.99 for 0.14 oz.) is a muted, grayish-blue with gold and pink shimmer–it is a very interesting and complex shade. It applies with semi-opaque color in a single layer, and for me, it does best with one layer–more than one, and it just clumps up and becomes uneven. The texture was thin and slippery, so it was easy to apply and blends out best with fingertips. I saw light creasing after ten hours (no primer) with this shade. Clinique Big Blue is a bit darker, not as nuanced. Make Up For Ever #940 isn’t blue, but it has a very similar duochrome/sheen to it (so you could use it layered over a blue for a similar effect). L’Oreal Infinite Sky is bluer, not as muted, no sheen/shimmer like Seashore Frosts. Chanel Destination lacks the golden shimmer/sheen. See comparison swatches here.
I feel like Maybelline should have branded these differently, like they did with the Metals. Maybe Iridescent Color Tattoo or Luminous Color Tattoo, and then gone with a different description of the formula, like “to be used layered with your favorite Color Tattoo” or “for a sheer wash of shimmering color.” They share little in common with the original formula (described as “longest-lasting,” “super-saturated color, “vibrant color that does not fade”), but the shades I’ve tried from the latest limited edition set have all been similar in texture, payoff, and wear.

ARGH! Neither of these color tattoos can be bought at either link listed! I got really excited thinking I could finally get my hands on them but neither company has them available online.
Hmm! There shouldn’t be links – should say “Local drugstores!”
Well that’s weird. When I originally clicked them it said (and linked to) Ulta and Drugstore.com. I can see now that it says Local drugstores. Ah well.
Seashore Frosts is so gorgeous! But I think I’ll pass, I won’t be wearing it that often anyway…
I love Seashore Frosts, I’ve found I can do one layer and let it dry down completely and tap on another thin layer. I find it to be a quite noticeable and interesting duochrome, and I have a fair number of them. Agree though it could have used different branding/marketing so we could go in with the expectation of a more sheer coverage level.
I really wish these stay well on me, but they just never seem to dry down 🙁 I guess I’ll be sticking to MUFE aqua creams.. These are so emollient. I wore it with UDPP, top it off with a powder shadow.. same thing. I had high hopes.
Hmm…those two colors seem to have a bit too much shimmer. I think I’d have a hard time using them!
I have Cool Crush and I think it’s really stunning–icy blue/silver/lavender depending on the light. I hadn’t zeroed in on this shade as one I was really excited for, but that’s because none of the photos I’ve seen do it justice. It does go on sheer at first, but can be easily layered for more opaque color. Maybe the lasting power isn’t quite as good as the original color tattoos, but compared to the wide world of eyeshadows, 10 hours sans primer with only “faint creasing” is still pretty amazing, especially for an inexpensive product.
I’m glad you were able to layer – I wasn’t – every time I tried, it looked worse: super uneven, chunky, and patchy! As long as you’re happy with it, that’s great! 🙂 I hope you’ll add your review/quick review to help us give a better big picture of the product!
I would have to disagree that I should overlook problems just because it’s “cheap, ” because Maybelline has been able to put out a better, high-performing formula, alongside brands like L’Oreal, Milani, and NYX, too. For some, $6 might be inexpensive, but for someone else, maybe that’s a splurge – and they really need it to work. I just don’t think we should pretend like it’s great even though there are problems. Willingness to overlook problems with a product is really something that is going to vary from person to person and how they might use it or what’s important/unimportant, so I wouldn’t feel comfortable rating that way.
this is what happened when I tried to layer, chunky funky mess! i have seen them layered over black and look amazing as well but just not for me 🙁
Gosh I love these even though it seems the paler frostier versions of this product are sketchy on consistency and skippy in coverage. This is the type of product the crow in me absolutely loves, but then it sits used rarely in my collection.
I picked up Seashore Frosts and have been trying to work with it but it seems sheer and doesn’t show up like I expected. Will keep trying though!
I bought seashore frost and i love it. I wish there was a powder form of it.
Ohh wow, this color tattos looks amazing. I just have to say that I love the colours on your eyes. It really compliments your skin tone. Would have to check these:)
xoxo Nika
I love seashore frosts. It is such an interesting color. I don’t experience much creasing with it either.
I hope you’ll consider adding your review! 🙂
Seashore frosts looks absolutely divine to me for a day when I love to wear light all over eyecolor + gel liner. It looks perfect! I hope we have them soon!
I want to wear the second one as a nail polish.
Aw too bad–both shades are SO gorgeous in the swatch photos. I can definitely see the clumping on the lids though :/
I love Seashore Frosts over black! It’s really pretty.
Seashore Frosts looks so much prettier on person than in pictures! Even though it’s far, far sheerer than the other, permanent CTs, it’s definitely the best out of the summer LEs and the colours in it are so interesting! I completely agree that maybe they should have marketed them differently, though.
Cool crush is beautiful another product I must put on my lost
for some reason I find myself attracted to metallic shades lately, and have been wanting to try some. Thanks for the comparison btw cool crush and it’s alternatives, I like the bluish hue of the urban decay strip and will probably give it a try next time I head down sephora
I love all these color tattoos, but I never wear them alone. I love the different colors they can make eyeshadows look. I have almost all the colors from this collection & my faves are def Blue Paradise & Waves of White.
This items looks to be very interesting colors.
I just got a new one not for the US called Mauve Crush and it is intriguing. It’s a mixture of blue, pink, teal… L’Oreal Infallible Unlimited Sky (a.k.a Infinite Sky in the US) is definitely more blue; L’Oreal Infallible Sassy Marshmallow (do not have a US equivalent as far as I know but is similar to Cool Crush) it’s way more silver and less duochrome.
This type of shades seem to very in trend right now. I like Sassy Marshmallow but had I known such shade as Mauve Crush was to come, I would have skip it as the Maybelline one is a lot prettier
PS. Sorry, hit the button before I finished. Mauve Crush is Color Tattoo #87 by Maybelline. Not sure if this is the same as Blue Paradise Color Tatto but looks similar
Also there’s a Color Tatto in the UK, ‘Light in Purple’, which may or may not be the same as Mauve Crush but Light in Purple is number 85
Makeup companies are such weirdos.
I Got light in purple, I can’t tell if its the same as seashore frosts but they seem similar. Why the silly name changes especially when the languages are the same hehe!
I saw the colors light in purple en mauve crush together in a store in Germany, and I really coudn’t tel the difference. So I swatched both, and still couldn’t tel the difference.
So they are exactly the same to me.
