Marc Jacobs Violet Femme (82) Highliner Gel Eye Crayon
Marc Jacobs Violet Femme (82) Highliner Gel Eye Crayon ($25.00 for 0.01 oz.) is described as an “orchid shimmer.” It’s a medium, pinky-mauve with lighter pink and lilac shimmer. It had semi-opaque pigmentation in a single stroke, but it wasn’t the easiest shade to layer as it was drier and tended to skip for me. This is one of the issues I’ve had with Marc Jacobs’ formula: they aren’t always creamy, and it can even vary from purchase to purchase of the same shade. Once on, the color doesn’t budget at all over a fourteen hour period, and it seemed slightly more amenable to being layered/built-up in practice than when I initially swatched it. The disappointing part is that it is a more unique shade, too. Sephora Collection Strawberry Macaroon (P, $9.00) is lighter and more metallic (but infinitely easier to apply). Marc Jacobs Beauty Jazz(berry) (46) (P, $25.00) is darker. MAC Feminine Edge (LE, $16.00) is lighter, more sparkly, gel. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Marc Jacobs Beauty Peridot (90) Highliner Gel Eye Crayon ($25.00 for 0.01 oz.) is described as a “sage green shimmer.” It’s a brightened, light-medium green with warm, golden shimmer and a more metallic finish. It was incredibly creamy and softer than almost all other Marc Jacobs’ eyeliners I’ve tried, and as a result, it yielded nearly opaque coverage in one pass. It was easy to apply on the skin. It didn’t look faded or thinned after fourteen hours of wear. MAC Vent (P, $16.00) is darker, cooler-toned. Sephora Collection Caipirinha Dreamin’ (LE, $9.00) is brighter. NARS Puerta del Sol (LE, $24.00) is darker. Sephora Collection Indulge Yourself (22) (P, $9.00) is darker, less shimmery. Urban Decay Freak (P, $19.00) is lighter, less shimmery, warmer. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Marc Jacobs Top Seacret (88) Highliner Gel Eye Crayon ($25.00 for 0.01 oz.) is described as a “teal shimmer.” It’s a medium-dark blue with very subtle “teal” leanings–like it is a little “warmer” compared to a true medium blue, but it isn’t really teal. The color payoff was semi-sheer in a single pass, and the consistency was a little dry, so it tended to drag and apply unevenly. I found it difficult to get really opaque color with this shade, and as a fan of teal (personally), this might have been the one I was most excited for. It wore for fourteen hours with no signs of fading or smudging. Kat Von D D.R.A. (P, $10.00) is bluer, cooler-toned. bareMinerals True Blue (LE) is less shimmery, darker. Gucci Beauty Iconic Ottanio (P, $32.00) is darker. L’Oreal True Teal (260) (P, $8.99) is warmer, more pigmented. Urban Decay Gonzo (LE, $19.00) is less shimmery, brighter. Marc Jacobs Beauty Ody(sea) (62) (P, $25.00) is greener. Tarina Tarantino Kanzashi (P, $15.00) is lighter. NARS Khao San Road (P, $24.00) is slightly lighter. Sephora Collection Summer Cruise (23) (P, $9.00) is lighter. Urban Decay Deep End (P, $19.00) is slightly greener. bareMinerals 4AM (LE, $15.00) is less shimmery, bluer. These colors remind me of a tropical vacation! So perfect for summer. Awwww about the teal one….
I know! My heart was so sad over the teal being one of the bigger disappointments in the launch!
So happy Peridot did well. But, bummed Top Seacret did not! Oh well, $ saved!
See, I can save you $$ sometimes!! 🙂
Lol,you always do ! I buy things that I use because they perform well or if If I chose to be go ahead and buy something like Violet Femme, for instance, I at least know what I’m getting into beforehand and can weigh the pros and cons.:)
Violet Femme is beautiful and that whole pink eye look is so pretty!
Thanks, Agata!
Those are some inspirational eye looks girl!! I’ve never seen pinkeye look so pretty! xo
LOL! Pink eyeliner is always interesting to work in… especially since I normally start with whatever eyeshadow I’m testing and then go, “Oh, I need to test these eyeliners… which haven’t I tested… oh… pink? HMMM.”
I’m disappointed it only got a B- but I’m still going to splurge on Violet Femme. It’s the color of my dreams and it looks like it applied well on your eye (even if it took some work). I’ve been meaning to get Strawberry Macaroon, too. I think they will look really nice together.
It definitely applied better than I thought it would – not perfect, and it’s disappointing when it’s a premium price – but it is harder to dupe at least!
Intro (Vert) still looks THEEE BESTTT 🙂
fabulous eye looks dear
Thank you, Rashmi! Yes, Intro(vert) is still a fave – more unusual.
Oooh thanks for the comparison swatches on the turquoise/teal liners. This new version, Top Seacret, not really needed.
Surprisingly, it was a let-down even in color (for me) – maybe a brighter blue would have been more interesting.
Peridot is beauuuuutiful.
It is!
Well, that’s disappointing, especially considering the price point.
I’m really glad that I saw this prior to purchasing. I’ll stick with the comparable Urban Decay liners!
UD has similar issues with opacity for me with a lot of their more colorful shades, unfortunately! 🙁
I’d purchased Violet Femme but returned it. Settled on peridot, sunset, blue me away and in the buff. 🙂
Glad you found a few to love! 🙂
I’ll have to leave these to you brown-eyed girls!
I know all of these passes are good for my so-called makeup “budget” (as IF!), but it’s not much fun. 🙁
Aww 🙁
It’s all right – I really enjoy my green eyes, and there are plenty of great taupe, purple, and plum liners, made by cruelty-free companies, that I *can* go for!
I prefer gel liners, anyhow – I have yet to find a pencil or crayon liner that packs enough pigment punch to suit me.
Omg…..These look so awesome….I want them in my life….
Glad ya liked ’em, Renji!
So happy to see Peridot received an A! What a gorgeous color!
Me too! 🙂
I love that the two that stuck out to me from the beginning – Orange Crush and Peridot – have such great reviews! Plus they look amazing on you!
I love Peridot to death. Violet Femme is actually nicer than I thought it would be, though it’s definitely a pink. Top Seacret surprised me, I thought it would be a shoe-in for a good grade if the others were good.
I’m sooooo excited Peridot did well, I think that was the shade I was most excited for, especially because it’s so unique. That swatch is so pigmented, it really surprised me, since it’s such a light shade I wasn’t expecting it to be that opaque. Yay!
Peridot is so pretty! I love the way you used it in your eye look.
What better reason to buy those tarina tarantino liners on hautelook for $7 til Saturday. I love them especially the light pnk but with a sizable collection I’m not sure I need backups of other colors lol
Wow..grgs shades
perfect for summer
I like Violet Femme and Peridot. That’s 3 on my list now. I may have to delete one. Maybe 🙂
Violet Femme reminds me of a pinker version of UD’s Asphyxia, minus the duochrome effect.
General pass on these three. I have better turquoise eyeliners (that really isn’t teal!), and I have a couple of LE liners that resemble Peridot as well. One’s Marcelle and I forget the other.
Yay! Glad to see that Peridot was a winner! It was the only new shade of MJ high liner that I brought as part of my last haul from the sale LOL 😉 Was very tempted to get multiple shades but I don’t think I’ll ever finish a single one of the many Urban Decay liners in my stash (hauled the huge vault when it came out), so I try to only get unique colours that are new to my stash ;P
Disappointed that Top Seacret was a letdown, but on the bright side, MJ does have other nice greens.
Love, love, love that green and blue colours. Gorgeous for summer and your eye looks are stunning Christine. They are beautiful.
Your Violet Femme look is so pretty and feminine! <3
<3 Peridot <3
Peridot looks awesome! The pink looks very pretty on your eyes
I like Violette Femme
