Marc Jacobs Violet Femme (82) Highliner Gel Eye Crayon ($25.00 for 0.01 oz.) is described as an “orchid shimmer.” It’s a medium, pinky-mauve with lighter pink and lilac shimmer. It had semi-opaque pigmentation in a single stroke, but it wasn’t the easiest shade to layer as it was drier and tended to skip for me. This is one of the issues I’ve had with Marc Jacobs’ formula: they aren’t always creamy, and it can even vary from purchase to purchase of the same shade. Once on, the color doesn’t budget at all over a fourteen hour period, and it seemed slightly more amenable to being layered/built-up in practice than when I initially swatched it. The disappointing part is that it is a more unique shade, too. Sephora Collection Strawberry Macaroon (P, $9.00) is lighter and more metallic (but infinitely easier to apply). Marc Jacobs Beauty Jazz(berry) (46) (P, $25.00) is darker. MAC Feminine Edge (LE, $16.00) is lighter, more sparkly, gel. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

Marc Jacobs Beauty Peridot (90) Highliner Gel Eye Crayon ($25.00 for 0.01 oz.) is described as a “sage green shimmer.” It’s a brightened, light-medium green with warm, golden shimmer and a more metallic finish. It was incredibly creamy and softer than almost all other Marc Jacobs’ eyeliners I’ve tried, and as a result, it yielded nearly opaque coverage in one pass. It was easy to apply on the skin. It didn’t look faded or thinned after fourteen hours of wear. MAC Vent (P, $16.00) is darker, cooler-toned. Sephora Collection Caipirinha Dreamin’ (LE, $9.00) is brighter. NARS Puerta del Sol (LE, $24.00) is darker. Sephora Collection Indulge Yourself (22) (P, $9.00) is darker, less shimmery. Urban Decay Freak (P, $19.00) is lighter, less shimmery, warmer. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

Marc Jacobs Top Seacret (88) Highliner Gel Eye Crayon ($25.00 for 0.01 oz.) is described as a “teal shimmer.” It’s a medium-dark blue with very subtle “teal” leanings–like it is a little “warmer” compared to a true medium blue, but it isn’t really teal. The color payoff was semi-sheer in a single pass, and the consistency was a little dry, so it tended to drag and apply unevenly. I found it difficult to get really opaque color with this shade, and as a fan of teal (personally), this might have been the one I was most excited for. It wore for fourteen hours with no signs of fading or smudging. Kat Von D D.R.A. (P, $10.00) is bluer, cooler-toned. bareMinerals True Blue (LE) is less shimmery, darker. Gucci Beauty Iconic Ottanio (P, $32.00) is darker. L’Oreal True Teal (260) (P, $8.99) is warmer, more pigmented. Urban Decay Gonzo (LE, $19.00) is less shimmery, brighter. Marc Jacobs Beauty Ody(sea) (62) (P, $25.00) is greener. Tarina Tarantino Kanzashi (P, $15.00) is lighter. NARS Khao San Road (P, $24.00) is slightly lighter. Sephora Collection Summer Cruise (23) (P, $9.00) is lighter. Urban Decay Deep End (P, $19.00) is slightly greener. bareMinerals 4AM (LE, $15.00) is less shimmery, bluer. Lol,you always do ! I buy things that I use because they perform well or if If I chose to be go ahead and buy something like Violet Femme, for instance, I at least know what I’m getting into beforehand and can weigh the pros and cons.:)

I’m disappointed it only got a B- but I’m still going to splurge on Violet Femme. It’s the color of my dreams and it looks like it applied well on your eye (even if it took some work). I’ve been meaning to get Strawberry Macaroon, too. I think they will look really nice together.

Well, that’s disappointing, especially considering the price point.
I’m really glad that I saw this prior to purchasing. I’ll stick with the comparable Urban Decay liners!

It’s all right – I really enjoy my green eyes, and there are plenty of great taupe, purple, and plum liners, made by cruelty-free companies, that I *can* go for!
I prefer gel liners, anyhow – I have yet to find a pencil or crayon liner that packs enough pigment punch to suit me.

I love that the two that stuck out to me from the beginning – Orange Crush and Peridot – have such great reviews! Plus they look amazing on you!

I love Peridot to death. Violet Femme is actually nicer than I thought it would be, though it’s definitely a pink. Top Seacret surprised me, I thought it would be a shoe-in for a good grade if the others were good.

I’m sooooo excited Peridot did well, I think that was the shade I was most excited for, especially because it’s so unique. That swatch is so pigmented, it really surprised me, since it’s such a light shade I wasn’t expecting it to be that opaque. Yay!

Violet Femme reminds me of a pinker version of UD’s Asphyxia, minus the duochrome effect.

General pass on these three. I have better turquoise eyeliners (that really isn’t teal!), and I have a couple of LE liners that resemble Peridot as well. One’s Marcelle and I forget the other.

Yay! Glad to see that Peridot was a winner! It was the only new shade of MJ high liner that I brought as part of my last haul from the sale LOL 😉 Was very tempted to get multiple shades but I don’t think I’ll ever finish a single one of the many Urban Decay liners in my stash (hauled the huge vault when it came out), so I try to only get unique colours that are new to my stash ;P

Disappointed that Top Seacret was a letdown, but on the bright side, MJ does have other nice greens.
