Marc Jacobs Taboo, Moonglow, French Tickler Enamored Lip Lacquers Reviews & Swatches

Taboo (310)

Marc Jacobs Beauty Taboo (310) Enamored Hi-Shine Lip Lacquer ($29.00 for 0.16 oz.) is a light-medium brown with soft, warm undertones and gold and copper pearl throughout. It had medium coverage, though it was actually described as “sheer,” that applied smoothly and evenly across my lips.

The texture was lightweight, thicker and more like a cushion-y, gel-cream with light tackiness (enough to keep it in place but not feel heavy). I was particularly impressed by how smoothing the formula was to my lip lines. This shade lasted nicely for four and a half hours and felt hydrating while worn.

Formula Overview

$29.00/0.16 oz. - $181.25 Per Ounce

It is supposed to have "maximum color and brilliance" and "shine like 30 coats of lacquer." The formula has a mint scent but not much flavor from what I could detect. While the brand's general description is "maximum color," they seem to modify that with individual shade descriptions as several shades are specifically described as "opaque" and a few are noted as "sheer" with the remainder having no specific coverage descriptor (as of April/May 2020).

This seems to suggest that the rest are neither sheer nor opaque but somewhere in-between--I would lean toward "semi-opaque" to be closer to "maximum color," though I really think that's quite confusing to the customer. It would make more sense to simply describe it as a range of sheer to opaque shades or that they're medium coverage (as a whole).

The coverage ranged from semi-sheer to opaque with a fair amount of shades between medium and semi-opaque payoff in a single layer, and they do have a very high-shine finish that makes my lips look more voluminous.

The consistency was smooth, like a creamy gel as it was a bit thicker (without being heavy or tacky), and very easy to spread across my lips. It was comfortable to wear and moisturizing over time. Some shades smoothed out my lip lines, though it wasn't consistent throughout the range as a few settled into them (usually paler, milkier shades).

Moonglow (314)

Marc Jacobs Beauty Moonglow (314) Enamored Hi-Shine Lip Lacquer ($29.00 for 0.16 oz.) is a light pink with warm undertones and a milky, cream finish paired with a high-shine. It had medium coverage in a single layer, which did not apply evenly and settled into some of my lip lines.

It was difficult to keep it even somewhat even due to lines being left whenever I pressed or touched my lips together. The consistency felt smooth, lightweight, and gel-cream like, so it was plush without being heavy or overly tacky. It stayed on well for three and a half hours and felt moisturizing over time.

French Tickler (316)

Marc Jacobs Beauty French Tickler (316) Enamored Hi-Shine Lip Lacquer ($29.00 for 0.16 oz.) is a medium peach with moderate, warm undertones paired with iridescent, opal pearl throughout. It had more of a jelly-like finish, as it was translucent and let the natural lip color come through. The shimmer was subtle in practice but had nuance from the contrasting pearl.

It had semi-sheer color coverage that applied evenly but had some product that settled into my deeper lip lines, but it seemed to be camouflaged slightly by the high-shine finish in person. The consistency felt lightweight, spreadable, and smooth with a touch of tackiness. It wore well for four hours and felt hydrating while worn.

Taboo is totally my jam! It does remind me of the Milani Stay Plump in Rosy Bronze! Which I have already gone through about four……so, I guess if you are a bit more budget minded you could try that one!

French Tickler? Are ya serious, MJB? New nadirs in naming. Sometimes the name thing looks like a contest for sniggering seventh grade boys. We are neither shocked nor amused.

Taboo is simply plush looking! If I didn’t have Fenty Universal Glow, I would buy this. But I do. And I love my Fenty Gloss Bomb with a passion.

I am also keen on the French Tickler shade for a more sheer, yet sparkling shade. It would certainly come in handy!

I love Taboo.
I would never put anything called French Tickler on my lips. What were they thinking? Why do they always go for the blatant sexual names. I just don’t get it and never will.

To kjh, Deborah, and anyone else who doesn’t like the French Tickler gloss name: In this case you can blame the music industry first, because Marc Jacobs named all the Enamored shades after titles and/or lyrics from music he likes. I can’t find the specific song for this particular shade name, though.
