Marc Jacobs Dew You Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter Review, Photos, Swatches
Dew You
Marc Jacobs Dew You Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter ($44.00 for 0.80 fl. oz.) is a medium gold with warm, yellow undertones and a pearly sheen. The shimmer was fine enough that it didn’t read metallic when sheered out, but it was buildable enough that it could be nearly metallic when layered on the skin. Overall, the pigmentation was semi-sheer to semi-opaque, depending on application method, but to get higher coverage, it would be best to apply one layer, allow that to dry, and then pat on additional product.
The formula is supposed to be a “gel-cream” that can be used on “the skin directly” or “added into” base products (like foundation or primer). It’s supposed to “build for the ultimate sheen.” That gel texture made it easy to spread without it sheering out immediately, but it also meant that one “pump” was far more product than one would need for spot highlighting (e.g. cheek bones, cupid’s bow, and so forth) and was more in line with what you might use to mix in with a base product. There was a very subtle coconut scent to it, but it wasn’t particularly sweet and was more toned down compared to the Coconut Face Primer. I had no trouble blending this product out on bare skin, over liquid foundation, or patted over powder highlighter. It wore well for nine hours on me as a standalone highlighter, and it did not impact the wear of my foundation (I used it with Tarte and Guerlain).
This was unexpectedly large–or conversely, unexpectedly cheap given the size–and can easily be used regularly for mixing with base products or all-over the body (in fact, you’ll want to in order to finish a bottle!). I think it is particularly spectacular mixed with body lotion or even dabbed and blended across shoulders and decolletage for an all-over glow. It actually seemed like a perfect mix between typical liquid highlighter (often quite sheer and subtle) and some of the more intense, metallic powder highlighters out there. That being said, the color and effect are easily duped by a number of powder products, so unless the gel-cream texture is something you’ve been looking for, you might have something like this in your stash.

Wish Marc Jacobs was available here, I really like the sound of the formula, and how it looks – at least it’s permanent, so I may get a chance to check it out in the future.
Aww, I wish it was available in your part of the world, A!
Love your makeup! You look gorgeous!
Thank you, Bella!
I’ve been curious about this. How does this compare to the Becca Backlight Priming Filter? Does the glowiness show through a matte foundation, at all? Thanks for the review:)
This is a highlighter, not so much a primer, and it is also a lot more shimmery/more impactful, so I wouldn’t consider them similar.
Good to know! Thank you:)
Looks really nice! It’s so refreshing to see a luxury brand offer something that’s actually nice value per oz. I have plenty of dupes… but I wish they smelled like coconut! ?
I was expecting a pretty small bottle at the price point (seemed low for MJB, lol), but it was quite large!
I’m already a big fan of the MJ Full Coverage Foundation and their Coconut Primer (for winter), but I find a lot of highlighters don’t mix well with the foundation, so I’m thinking this highlighter could be a good fit. The products aren’t cheap but you need so little (only need a drop of each) that a bottle lasts a long, long time.
I like the size of this overall – plenty so one can mix without guilt but I feel like you could go through a bottle in a reasonable length of time if you regularly mixed.
I am debating between buying the CoverFX Custom Drops and this because they seem to achieve a similar effect with similar application – how do these two compare?
The CoverFX have a greater sheen – they are more metallic on, IMO. The Cover FX formula is a lot more liquidy, so if you have a very watery foundation, you may prefer a more similar texture vs. the more gel-like feel of this.
I ADORE the colour!! I love that tone and shade. I’ll be buying the MUFE highlight so I don’t need this, but boy is it pretty!! 😀
It is! I hope the brand releases more shades.
IYO, How does this compare to the Estee Edit Morning Light Flash illuminator? (although its kind of late, because I ran out to get this MJ a half hour ago)
Ugh! Highlighter/Illuminator overload. When I look at the dupe lists, I usually have purchased 3 of them already. Thankfully, I have 2 daughters.
I’m sorry, I don’t have that!
Oh, I would be all over this one. Seems to be right up my alley. But can’t justify purchasing it. with the stuff I already own 🙁
I hope they’ll do more shades! 🙂
Love the sound of these Marc Jacobs coconut products! (Planning a Sephora haul for April. In the meantime, I need to get over there and try these on to get a better feel for them.)
Definitely try to play with them in person before splurging, just so you know if they’re your cup of tea 🙂
Is this similar to Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Moonstone? Which formula would be better for mixing into foundation?
Sort of, but I would consider this to have more coverage than Becca’s liquid highlighters. It would depend on the coverage level, type of foundation, and your personal preference for shimmer – again, this one is more shimmery and higher coverage compared to Becca’s liquid highlighters, which are very, very sheer.
It’s really beautiful and perfect to use on shoulders etc on summer nights. A great product.
Agreed!
I’m not sure how on earth I didn’t see this beauty earlier today, but that’s what I get for working my way backwards! This is an EXCELLENT deal and a really pretty mixer to add a little luminosity! Now to chose between this one and the CoverFX one….I am partial to the scent of coconut? But I love the idea of having a Butterfly Beach dupe in a liquid?
This looks like a lovely product. I like the almost understated shimmer. I’m not really a mixing person, but this made me want to try it. I think it will look stunning on shoulders, arms, legs and so on. Sort of like the Charlotte Tillbury product whatefer it’s called, but a bit more understated, depending of course on how much you use and blend.
I don’t need this, but i sure want it.
Great review! It looks beautiful on you! I noticed that silicone is towards the top of the ingredient list (BTW – I really appreciate that you post those!). When you apply the product, can you feel the “slip” of the silicone, like you often can in primer-style products?
I didn’t notice it feeling like silicones/primer like!
I like that it’s cooler than some of the dupes mentioned and I do like the shade. I also like that it’s customizable in it’s level of glow. Does it dry down all the way?
I love the glow kit color on your eyes! Which color did you use?

I am debating whether to buy this or TF fire lust illuminator. Which would you advise?
For reference, if it helps, I have light skin with pink undertones.
This one is more shimmery and golden with less orange! Firelust might be too warm.
Hi Christine, I recently purchased the Cover FX in moonstone (works well) that I use on my face and then I purchased sunlight that I was hoping to use with body moisturiser for a skin glow but within a couple of hours I’m only left with glitter on my skin, which is not what I was after. How does the MJ Dew Drops wear on the body? Do you have any other recommendations for a gentle body sheen? Many thanks, Sarah
