Make Up For Ever 5 Silver Dust Star Lit Liquid Review, Photos, Swatches
5 Silver Dust
Make Up For Ever 5 Silver Dust Star Lit Liquid ($24.00 for 0.15 fl. oz.) is a dirty, grayish taupe with silver, gold, white, and teal glitter. It is more “wearable” than you might expect of a silver/gray as a highlighter, and that had a lot to do with the sheerer formula. It had more of a cooler, silver effect that did highlight on my cheeks/eyes as the base color did not come into play.
5 Silver Dust had sheer to medium coverage, but it was hard to get higher coverage than medium as the layers would create a thicker, more uneven surface that was uncomfortable on the lid and impractical on the cheeks (looked very much like layers of chunky glitter sitting on the skin that had a tendency to flake away if I accidentally touched the area). The texture was thin, water-like, which made it easy to spread across the skin and kept it sheerer for each layer applied.
It wore well for eight hours on the cheeks, but there were a few glitter particles that had migrated on my face over time. When I tried it on the eyes, the product showed a bit of creasing after seven hours of wear and had some fallout over time, though it was not as much fallout as I typically experience with glittery, powder eyeshadows.
The Star Lit Liquid formula is described as a “lightweight, multi-use, pearlescent formula” that is a “sheer, water-based formula” that is buildable and won’t feel sticky on the skin. If you like a subtle highlighter, this formula is not for you. And if you don’t like glitter, this formula is definitely not for you! If you like glittery highlighters, I think this might be up your alley. The consistency was thin, water-like, and felt cool going on. The applicator is a lot like a nail polish brush, and it’s okay for getting initial color onto an area, but it is not practical to use it as a blending tool or anything like that. I had the best luck using my fingertip to pat and spread the glitter on the skin (cheeks or eyes) as a sheer wash.

Didn’t this this would look as pretty as it does!
Surprise 😀
I’m gray enough during the cold winter months – I don’t need a gray toned face product to make the situation grayer! It seems to have almost a greenish cast to it applied to the cheeks. LOVE that eye look, though!
Thanks, Mariella!
It seems that all the MUFE liquid highlighters don’t perform as well as the powders…such a shame! I wonder if tapping the powder highlighter on top might make them pop more. I guess I will wait until they are at Sephora to play with them to see.
The powders are definitely easier and more foolproof, especially on eyes!
This is very pretty — if I try one of the liquids, I think it will be this shade!
Yayy!
So much glitter is definitely not for me. The color is nice though.
It is pretty!
Market is flooded with great highlighters, feel like MUFE could’ve done better than this
I think a finer option would have made more sense for eye-usage!
Wow! Now this certainly is interesting looking! Could be a fun one to pat over a taupey eyeshadow, I would think. Amazing to me is that it doesn’t look in the least bit “off” or weird on your cheeks, either. It is far more wearable than I DID imagine it could be!
I think it’s because the base color isn’t really gray/silver – if it was, then I’d be more superhero than my normal self 😉
I like the colour of this!!! I think it would look interesting with my super yellow/warm skin hmm!!!
I bet it would!
I like it! This color is definitely more wearable than I thought it would be. I could see it working for everyday looks, if one felt like adding a bit of glitz without going over the top glam.
It definitely ended up being more wearable, I think!
That does look more wearable, but I’m not into it :I
Totally get that!
Not so much of a fan of this shade, I think it can end up looking muddy on your face. I liked the gold shade better.
Gotcha!
