5 Silver Dust

Make Up For Ever 5 Silver Dust Star Lit Liquid ($24.00 for 0.15 fl. oz.) is a dirty, grayish taupe with silver, gold, white, and teal glitter. It is more “wearable” than you might expect of a silver/gray as a highlighter, and that had a lot to do with the sheerer formula. It had more of a cooler, silver effect that did highlight on my cheeks/eyes as the base color did not come into play.

5 Silver Dust had sheer to medium coverage, but it was hard to get higher coverage than medium as the layers would create a thicker, more uneven surface that was uncomfortable on the lid and impractical on the cheeks (looked very much like layers of chunky glitter sitting on the skin that had a tendency to flake away if I accidentally touched the area). The texture was thin, water-like, which made it easy to spread across the skin and kept it sheerer for each layer applied.

It wore well for eight hours on the cheeks, but there were a few glitter particles that had migrated on my face over time. When I tried it on the eyes, the product showed a bit of creasing after seven hours of wear and had some fallout over time, though it was not as much fallout as I typically experience with glittery, powder eyeshadows.

The Star Lit Liquid formula is described as a “lightweight, multi-use, pearlescent formula” that is a “sheer, water-based formula” that is buildable and won’t feel sticky on the skin. If you like a subtle highlighter, this formula is not for you. And if you don’t like glitter, this formula is definitely not for you! If you like glittery highlighters, I think this might be up your alley. The consistency was thin, water-like, and felt cool going on. The applicator is a lot like a nail polish brush, and it’s okay for getting initial color onto an area, but it is not practical to use it as a blending tool or anything like that. I had the best luck using my fingertip to pat and spread the glitter on the skin (cheeks or eyes) as a sheer wash.

It seems that all the MUFE liquid highlighters don’t perform as well as the powders…such a shame! I wonder if tapping the powder highlighter on top might make them pop more. I guess I will wait until they are at Sephora to play with them to see.
