MAC x Stranger Things Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Hawkins Class of 1986
MAC Hawkins Class of 1986 Eyeshadow x 8 Palette ($45.00 for 0.49 oz.) is a newer, limited edition palette that contains three matte shades and five shimmer shades. Unfortunately, the shimmer formula was rather thick and firmer, which made it hard to apply onto the lid and many of them seemed to lose their shimmer/shine within minutes of application. The mattes were soft, blendable, albeit a touch powdery at times.

Dingus
Dingus is a brighter, yellowy gold with subtle, warm undertones and a pearly sheen. I found that the product looked metallic, but the finish seemed prone to fading down to something more like a satin or pearl finish within a few minutes.
- Opaque color coverage
- Moderately dense, somewhat thick texture that was stiffer
- Doesn’t pick up evenly with brush, best applied with fingertips
- Harder to blend edges of darker shades due to texture
- Average-wearing (seven to eight hours of wear, prone to fading)

Formula Overview
$20.00/0.05 oz. - $400.00 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have "12-hour wear" with "silky smooth glide" and a "wet-like metallic texture." The pigmentation is supposed to have "one-swipe saturation," and most of the shades had nearly opaque to opaque coverage but a couple were more semi-opaque and buildable in coverage. The texture was lightly creamy, dense, and physically thicker than the average powder eyeshadow, and I found the thickness made them a little hard to work with, especially using a dry brush.
I had the best luck getting smooth, even coverage that didn't emphasize my lid texture with a lightly dampened brush or fingertips (though I preferred the precision a brush offered). Some shades looked more metallic and "molten" while others had a subdued sheen (which didn't seem fitting with the "Dazzleshadow Extreme" name, and on that note, these were not chocked full of sparkle in most instances, like Dazzleshadows are). I had faint creasing beginning between eight and 10 hours with most shades, while the color would be still be 70-75% intact after 12-hours of wear.

Formula Overview
$20.00/0.05 oz. - $400.00 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have "pillow-soft, matte colour" that is "highly blendable" with "unbelievable slip" that has "stay-true colour" that doesn't fade, crease, or dry out the lids. The majority of the shades were pigmented, though a few were more semi-opaque and buildable.
The texture was soft, smooth, and slightly powdery in the pan--softer and more yielding than the standard MAC matte eyeshadow--but had more glide for better adhesion and blendability on bare skin. The eyeshadows stayed on well for eight hours before fading noticeably.
They're thinner and a bit more powdery than the long-discontinued Matte2 formula, though it was more like that finish than the current, matte finish in the brand's permament range of eyeshadows. They were easier and more forgiving to work with than a lot of MAC's eyeshadows, so they were improved and a nice addition to the brand's range (they're also available as pan-only for less).

Probably the funniest part about this palette is that it does have a 1986 feel to it! Our “metallics” of that era were literally NOTHING in comparison to what makeup companies can now produce! I mean, I did have a few really nice ones back then while pregnant with my son and during those first several months as a Mom, but I have waaay better ones now.
I agree. I feel like this would have been a really decent palette back in the day, but now you can get as good or better quality at drug store pricing. We really are spoiled for choice when it comes to progress in eyeshadow formulas in the last 10 years.
OMG – it looked so promising in the swatches, but it fades away to nothingness once on the eyes……Aw MAC, that’s really disappointing.
Ditto! I was thinking the same thing. I just don’t trust MAC eyeshadows. I don’t think I’ve ever kept a palette nor do I have a single form them.
I bought this palette and it arrived in time to wear Melvald’s General Store all over my lids for a 1980’s party! It was like I’d gone back in time. The color, the texture of the shadow was perfect 1980s. I wouldn’t wear the color in its own like that normally because it is really anachronistic looking, but I would use it along with other shadows.
How disappointing. I hope the other palette is better.
I have liked what I’ve seen of the show, and now try to avoid spoilers so I can see all of the new season in one sitting. The first half is out and the next comes later in summer, I think.
I though this sounded like a fun collab, but the quality must be there or there’s nothing fun at all about it.
I got mine a week or so ago. I love it, so far so good.
I have not have any issues with the colors disappearing. Maybe I got the one good palette.
Kudos to MAC on this one. When I see everything as a whole it doesn’t make “sense” to my brain, but looking at the colors individually each one looks great. I love the designs of the packaging on everything too.
