MAC x Star Trek Pleasure Planet & Set to Stun Lipglasses Reviews, Photos, Swatches
MAC Pleasure Planet Lipglass
MAC Pleasure Planet Lipglass ($17.00 for 0.16 fl. oz.) is described as a “muted gold shimmer.” It’s a medium, yellowed gold with warm gold, pink, and copper flecks of sparkle. It had semi-sheer coverage, so it imparted some color but mostly shine and sparkle on the lips. There was a moderate tackiness, which made it longer-wearing, but it wasn’t too thick or goopy on. It lasted for four hours on me and was lightly hydrating.
MAC Goldfinch (P, $21.00) is lighter, less pigmented, cooler (90% similar). MAC Nippy's Shimmery Gold (LE, $21.00) is lighter (95% similar). MAC Set to Stun Lipglass ($17.00 for 0.16 fl. oz.) is described as a “light silver with gold pearl.” It’s a medium, silvery gray with neutral-to-warm undertones and gold and pink sparkle. It had semi-sheer color payoff that applied fairly evenly and didn’t settle into lip lines. I think the shimmer could have distributed just a bit more evenly, but it wasn’t too noticeable. The texture was light-medium in weight, moderately tacky, but smooth and comfortable to wear. This shade lasted for four hours on me and was neither drying nor hydrating.
ColourPop Nonsense (LE, $10.00) is lighter (95% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Silver Surf (370) (P, $29.00) is less shimmery, lighter, cooler (90% similar). Melt Cosmetics Stupid Cupid (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery, less pigmented (85% similar). Chanel Aragonite (P, $30.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). MAC She-Zam (LE, $20.00) is cooler (90% similar). These are ok, not very exciting IMO since there is so little color. Selfishly, I wish MAC had sent Khaaannnn! and Warp Speed Ahead to you instead- from the other swatches I have seen they look a lot more impactful on the lips. I Am especially interested in Warp Speed- who can resist a plum like that?
Aw, I’m sorry about that!
Neither of these are for me!
Easy skip!
Definitely points for being original, but I’m left feeling a bit underwhelmed by these.
Aw, darn!
From what I’ve seen so far, nothing from this collection is wowing me. The packaging looks so boring, and the products could be so much better, what a truly wasted opportunity. I hope they send you the rest of the collection to review/swatch, but if not or if nothing else looks good, I will pick up Set To Stun lip gloss for nostalgia’s sake, at least the silver color is a little more unique.
That seems to be how a lot of other readers feel as well 🙁
I love the sparkle of both, but I was still hoping for better pigmentation. I don’t know if that is a flaw with the product as much as a personal preference, though.
Lipglass ranges in opacity level so much 🙁
I like the sparkles, but I don’t think these are terribly unique.
MAC has definitely done a gold and silver gloss before!
Set To Stun is interesting enough, but I am waiting on Khaaaan! as the berry with red reflect sounds as mercurial as the actual character in the movie played by Ricardo Montelban! (Whose last name I likely misspelled!)
Here’s hoping!
I love the new Star Trek movies. So, I was very excited for these products. Not really feeling it though. I kinda wish there was more pigmentation or colour in these. Unfortunately, I don’t feel like picking up either of these. As always, thank you for the honest review Christine.
No problem, Amirah! We’ll see how MAC describes the formula when it officially launches (well, hopefully they’ll have more info then!).
These remind me of the Pedro Lourenço lipglasses! I liked the Lourenço ‘s ones better, though. I’m definitely picking up the lipsticks and the pearl swirly powder, maybe one or two of the shadows. These, I’m not really dying for. But the lipsticks you’ve reviewed? YES GOD!
I can see some similarity! 🙂
They had an incredible opportunity to go all out for the 50th Anniversary of Star Wars. They decided to use a non-MUA from YouTube to be their spokesperson? She’s never done makeup on anyone except herself (self admitted). How does she translate to representing MAC for this Star Wars collection? So confusing and such a disappointment.
Thanks for sharing!
