Totally agree! I collect pieces from lines with LE packaging and the early promos made me covet this so hard. Now, after seeing more detailed photos along with the prices . . . I think I’m safe to pass this up.

Wendy, I sort of chuckled reading your post. I actually like the look of the packaging but I was thinking that anyone who isn’t “au courant” with makeup might see a case with “Prabal Gurung” on it and wonder if inside there was some sort of exotic contraceptive device or sex toy!!!

meganlisa Avatar

No. I looked through it and my first thought was “not another MAC collection” (and I love MAC). Then I thought “wow, yes”. Then I saw the prices and was back at “no way”.
Nothing here I don’t already have.

I had the exact same thoughts and feelings about this collection. Of course the purples intrigued me, the packaging does not appeal to me, neither do the prices, I can only imagine what this will translate to in CND, so… Just no.

Mariella Avatar

Nice packaging (compare this to Rocky Horror) but my, how they’ve jacked up the prices to cover the cost of the nicer packaging. This is the sort of stuff, though, that I would love to see be made “refillable” (at least the compacts and the lipsticks)

Andrea Avatar

Mac really amped up the price! Hope they did the same with the quality.
Love the photo… But none of the iteams drives me insane. Also, too much gold.

What the hell is a beige red? You mean pink, MAC. Get out of here with that pretentious tripe. The packaging is live – more Dior than Gurung, though – but the products themselves are kind of a let down. Who here doesn’t own plenty of neutral eyeshadows or red lipsticks as is?

Pretty packaging, but too spendy. I like the lip colors, especially that violet. (Red beige, though? Oh, brother. Call it nude pink and be done with it.) I do find it a bit weird they went red and violet on the lipsticks, but coral on the cream base and eyeshadow. I also think that blonde model looks like she’s possessed, though I love her lips.

Helene Avatar

Oh, the prices! Maybe they’ve used real gold????
I like the look of the Carmine and the Ultramarine pink lip colours a lot, but I don’t think I’d be willing to part with such a lot of money for any of them.
I do hope you’ll get to review this LE Christine, I would like to see the grades for all of these products.

… *shrug*. The colour selection doesn’t look very thrilling in the pictures (not *bad*, just…well, it’s neutrals and a red lipstick, mostly. *stifles yawn*). Funnily enough, the packaging I like best is the pencils – I used to collect sparkly pencils when I was a kid, so maybe that’s creating a bias, LOL!

Of course, if something turns out to be wonderful, that’s always worth celebrating. But at the moment, my heart rate is staying pretty stable 😉

Stacey Avatar

Ha ha ha! Who do MAC think it is? Tom Ford? Estée Lauder? Surratt? Suqqu? Gucci? For those prices, I am going for YSL, Dior, Guerlain or some Japanese brands…or even some gaudy, glitter makeup from Urban Decay which I adored.

Melissa Avatar

The packaging is gorgeous, but the products itself aren’t worth it to me. I can’t justify spending $30 just for nicer packaging for a lipstick, when you can purchase a regular MAC lipstick for like $18.

Kahlan Avatar

Beautiful looking collection surprised by the prices though! Now everyone can feel what Australians and New Zealanders feel when purchasing mac here as its $36 for a permanent lipstick…. I can only imagine how expensive this will be for us 🙁

abigailod Avatar

I actually do not mind the packaging – as long as it is metall-ish, and not plastic as in the Brooke Shields’ collection, which I was a bit disappointed with.

I was excited for the bronzer and lipsticks, but oh my – $70 for powder! I do hope they get good ratings from you, Christine!

LoveAlwaysMakeup Avatar

I guess I’m the only makeup nutt job on here (but I guarantee this still sells out even at these prices) but I will be blowing at least $300 on this collection…all three lipsticks, the bronzer, one trio and the brush for sure. If it wasn’t metal it would be a total pass, but I am obsessed with gold packaging. This packaging I can justify the price unlike most highend brands all plastic rip off. Just like Mac has released that new face powder in that space age black (plastic) package for $60 – no way!! Makeup prices are always on the rise. Buy or don’t because someone else will!! I do wish I lived by a CCO for this collection but who am I kidding even if I lived next door I wouldn’t be able to wait or risk it. I have literally been waiting over six months for this collection to be released. I haven’t been this excited with Mac since the alluring aquatic collection.

Christy Avatar

Meh, the collection doesn’t excite me. It’s overhyped because of the luxurious packaging. I wish they had more range. If they came out with more lipstick colours that would have been awesome. It’s just more expensive because of the packaging. I don’t think the bronzer is worth almost 90 dollars CND (I live in Canada). The bronzer and lipstick would be what I would want from the collection. The rest… meh. I’ll give this a pass. Although the packaging is BEAUTIFUL!
