Bite Beauty Aubergine Matte Creme Lip Crayon
Bite Beauty Aubergine Matte Creme Lip Crayon ($24.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as an “eggplant.” It’s a medium-dark, slightly muted, berry with cool undertones and a luminous sheen. It’s definitely not the matte finish you might expect–and it gives off a higher sheen than even a satin, though the shine does wear down after an hour or two of wear. It had mostly opaque pigmentation that goes on evenly and smoothly, as the consistency is creamy enough not to drag, but it doesn’t slide around once applied. This shade wore well for six hours and was moderately hydrating. Marc Jacobs Beauty Headliner (608) (P, $28.00) is lighter. Bite Beauty Crimson (LE, $28.00) is brighter, lighter. Inglot #293 Lipstick Cream (P, $12.00) is glossier. Estee Lauder Insolent Plum (P, $30.00) is glossier. YSL Exquisite Plum (22) (P, $34.00) is sheerer. Revlon Plum Velour (P, $7.99) is sheerer, lighter. Marc Jacobs Beauty Seduce Me (128) (P, $30.00) is lighter. Urban Decay Venom (P, $22.00) is darker. MAC Rebel (P, $16.00) is cooler-toned. Bite Beauty Cognac Matte Creme Lip Crayon ($24.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “dark brown.” It’s a medium-dark, reddish-brown with warm undertones and a glossy shine. It was one of the more emollient shades in the range–it had more slip, so it has a thicker, creamier feel on the lips. Luckily, the color still went on evenly, and the wear came in at five hours. The formula was comfortable to wear and hydrating over time. NARS Deborah (P, $32.00) is a touch lighter. MAC Carnal Instinct (LE, $16.00) is more metallic. MAC Legendary (LE, $16.00) is more matte. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Bite Beauty Truffle Matte Creme Lip Crayon ($24.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “deep brown.” It’s a deepened, blackened red with cool undertones and a glossy shine. This was the worst-performing shade in the range, because it was too slippery in texture. The color didn’t go on evenly, and it was prone to pulling into lip lines. It is better blotted down and worn more as a stain, which helps to mitigate some of the unevenness. The color lasted for five hours and left behind a stain. Tom Ford Beauty Black Dahlia (10) (LE, $50.00) is more matte. NARS Liv (P, $32.00) is purpler. Kat Von D Motorhead (P, $21.00) is more matte. Maybelline Espresso Exposed (955) (P, $7.49) is redder. MAC Talk That Talk (LE, $16.00) is more matte. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Black Metal Dahlia (P, $18.00) is more shimmery. Urban Decay Shame (P, $22.00) is redder. MAC Tribalist (LE, $16.00) is more muted. MAC Sin (P, $16.00) is more matte. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

There are certain shades of berry lipstick that really make my complexion pop and Aubergine is most assuredly one. Between Tom Ford Black Dahlia, Givenchy Framboise Velours and this beauty.. I’m so set for berrylicious lips this fall/winter.
Of those three, which one have you been wearing the most?
The TF Black Dahlia. Spot on colour for me.. something about it is different. Perhaps there is a hint of brown in the berry colour, while overall it still pulls cool temperature. I don’t know exactly, but I truly love it.
YAY! Nothing better than finding a lip color you love!
Now this is a set I would lean towards, I love dark lips! And they all looked very pretty on you 🙂
Thanks, Chelsea!
This is an awesome eyeshadow look! Compliments all 3 lipsticks really well.
Thank you, Arielle!
Aubergine is a real beauty! I am SO into berries and plums for the moment!
Me too! The cooler weather brings out my love for vamps.
yes, me too!
I love the Cognac and Truffle! Definitely need to try it!
Hope you can!
I’m really digging Cognac… For some reason, it seems to be a more flattering brown! 😀
I think because it’s so dark!
Aubergine looks amazing on you! And Cognac is really different, which makes me kind of like it 🙂
Thank you!! 🙂
I NEED Aubergine. NOW!
It’s a fun shade for fall/winter!
Christine, can I bother you and fellow readers with a question?
I’m not one to finish off lip products, but I just noticed this contains about 1/3 of what a regular lippie usually carries. Do you personally think this formula is worth trying out, or would I be better off picking a lipstick dupe?
Knowing that it’s rare for me to finish a lipstick — even when I had way, way fewer — I’d rather pay $24 than $34 for the same shade, even if $24 has a lot less. If the two options are the same, though, then I would likely go with the one with more product – unless there was something really exceptional about the other.
I think the formula is worth trying if $24 is in your budget (I really like it), though these shades are not my favorites (the latter two could be better).
Thanks for your input! :)) I’ve had my eye on a similar Inglot lipstick that you listed as a dupe for Augerbine. It’s half the price, but I’m a sucker for trying different things, and I’ve been curious over these Bite lip crayons for a while. I think it’ll all come down to seeing them face to face, hah!
I tend to go with more bang for your buck, but recently I realized that since I never finish a lipstick, I don’t mind paying more per ounce if it means I’ll get to use a color I really love for a reasonable amount of time. I usually make enough new purchases that I rotate my lip colors quite a bit, so they don’t get used as much as they would if I only had three lipsticks.
Did that make sense? haha 😀
That made absolute sense!
I’m reaching the same conclusion with my stash over here. There are a few colors I’ve been using almost on a daily basis, and still, when I check the bullet, theres so damn much left! So it does make more sense to go for a color we’ve fallen in love with, right?
I’ll keep my eye out next time I go to an american Sephora. I have a thing for Bite products, so if not one of these shades, I’ll most likely end up picking another one. 😀
This doesn’t really answer your question, but if you want to try out this formula, Sephora just got a bunch of minis, as well as minis of other Bite products- lipsticks and glosses- for $12. I believe they’re called the Mix ‘N’ Mingle Lip Minis. I just got one in Aubergine and I love it! And the mini Matte Creme Lip Crayons are actually a better price per ounce- they are ~60% of the product (.031 oz vs. .05 oz) for half the price. Plus, they’re really cute!
Aubergine is completely gone from Sephora.com already. Not even “sold out,” just GONE. If you are going to buy these minis, I suggest going quickly. I’m sad I missed out online, but I’m going to try to hit up a few JCP Sephoras.
Hm…surprisingly disappointed by these. I would have liked Aubergine to be a deeper purple and Truffle to just have better formulation. And here I was thinking Bite Beauty would never miss!
They definitely miss here and there (their tinted balms or something like that were some of my least favorites), though usually their misses aren’t usually fails at least!
With the description of this, and the ratings you gave it, it looks like this is definitely worth the price. The color swatches and the product on your looks beautiful. It looks very pigmented and creamy!
Thank you, Jenny!
How are these in comparison to the Urban Decay crayons ?
They’re very different! The formulas aren’t alike.
I love the first one, but I’ve yet to put on any even remotely pink shade and not look like I’m trying to be Barbie. I don’t know how my skin does it, but it does.
Aww!
Just felt in love!
All are amazing.
Glad ya liked ’em!
Truffle certainly reminded me of Liv when I first saw it so good call there. I really like Aubergine!
It is pretty!
how similar is mac’s fashion revival?
To which shade?
Stop posting about these Christine, I love these more and more every post, lol!!! The shade range is so gorgeous. I ordered the mini of Aubergine, and Brandy is on my buy list. I have to see Cognac and Sucre in person. I think Sucre may be too light and Cognac may not suit my taste. Thanks for the wonderful reviews. 🙂
Sorryy!
Aubergine is gorgeous, and I love how you paired it with soft mauve eyes. Cognac is so 90s, but it looks great. Too bad Truffle is so patchy. It’s a lovely color.
Thank you, Rachel!
Wait, I love all of these! Especially the glossy brown. I’d have to skip the one with the B- rating though.
I wish it was better!
Ok, so I already have 10 years worth of lipstick and 10 years of lip tars, so I didn’t buy any lipsticks during the Sephora sale, although I bought everything else, hahahaha. If I make a dent in my stash, I’m going to pick up Truffle at the next sale. I like the berry color, and that it stains, so I can put a lip balm with SPF on top of it, so it’ll look more sheer and last.
Sounds like a good plan 🙂
I actually like all of these lipsticks. You’ll making me want a brown lipstick Christine, it looks lo great on you. The eye makeup is really lovely as well.
If Bite was available in stores I’d absolutely try out these three.
Aw, thanks Helene!
Aubergine is on my list–getting it as soon as it’s back in stock. I wish brown’s like Cognac would look as lovely on me as they do on you–they make me look sickly.
Hope you can get it soon, Maggie!
Although it didn’t perform as well, Truffle is an amazing colour! They all look fantastic on you.
I wish it had less slip!
Aubergine looks stunning!
Glad ya liked it, Vivian!
Love that cognac colour – and it really suits you Christine. I know it will suit me too. What gorgeous colours. I am going to get one.
Thank you! Look forward to hearing your thoughts.
loved cognac when i saw the sneak peek & my feelings haven’t changed .
glad to know it still applied evenly despite having more slip than the other shades .
Truffle was the only one I’ve had application issues with, thankfully!
Love all of these shades!
Yay! 😀
Aubergine is definitely my favourite here! It’s not just the colour, either – it looks so smooth and soft and luminous! Truffle is an awesome colour, but I’m picky, so I’ll say I wish it was a tiny bit more even! 😉
It’s not cheap, so you should be picky!
Such beautiful colors on you, Christine! Do you mind sharing which brushes you used for this eye look? Stunning!! Also, do you use trench everyday underneath shadows? Or do you apply as highlight? Thanks so much!!
I only use Trench on my brow bone, if I happen to use it in a look 🙂 I use MAC 239s, Chikuhodo GSN-09, and Hakuhodo J004 and 242G.
It doesn’t seem so in your light, but when I swatted Truffle in store side by side with NARS Train Bleu, they were so the same color. Definitely not the same finish at all, but the color was super similar. Now I want to go back and swatch them again to make sure I’m not looney!
lol! Let me know how they compare 🙂
These are beautiful fall colors! I really like Aubergine. I think I need it
Christine, how does Cognac compare to MAC Paramount? It looks great on you by the way!
Sorry, I don’t think I have Paramount!
Oooh I really want this set, love me some vampy shades!
Overall though I’m really digging Cognac – this whole recent throw back to the 90’s brown lip colours reminds of playing dress up in my mum’s makeup stash as a little girl, ah the nostalgia 🙂 plus I don’t have any really brown lipsticks in my collection at the moment.
