Guerlain Cygne Noir (10) Ecrin 2 Couleurs Eyeshadow Duo Review, Photos, Swatches
Guerlain Cygne Noir (10) Ecrin 2 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette
Guerlain Cygne Noir (10) Ecrin 2 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette ($49.00 for 0.14 oz.) pairs a shimmery black with a deepened burgundy purple. It’s a very dark, smoky color combination. I liked it better combined with other products for greater contrast, but the two can definitely be worn together. It could be better performing, particularly at this price, I’d rather not see a so-so shade like the shimmery black.
Cygne Noir #1 is described as a “shimmering silver black.” It’s a medium black with subtle, warm undertones and silver sparkle. It had good pigmentation but could have used more intensity to be true-to-pan. The consistency was soft, blendable, and easy to apply. I had minor fall out over time, and the majority of the color was intact after eight hours of wear. Make Up For Ever D104 Black Diamond (P, $21.00) is much darker. Le Metier de Beaute Starry Night (P, $28.00) is a cream product. MAC Polished Jet (LE, $21.00) is a cream product. MAC Cinderfella (P, $21.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Cygne Noir #2 is described as a “deeply pigmented plum.” It’s a warm-toned, burgundy with reddish-brown undertones and a pearly sheen. It was nicely pigmented with a very soft, almost powdery, consistency that was easier to use on the lid than the swatch made it seem like. It wore well for eight and a half hours before fading. Too Faced Pop (P, $16.00) is more muted, lighter. Tom Ford Beauty Seductive Rose #4 (P) is lighter. Kat Von D Wonderland (LE) is cooler-toned. Sleek MakeUP Sunset #7 (P, $9.99) is more shimmery, lighter. Marc Jacobs Beauty The Tease #7 (P) is less shimmery. theBalm Alice Copper (P, $16.00) is similar. MAC Brazenly (LE, $15.00) is brighter. Make Up For Ever #311 (DC, $20.00) is less warm-toned. Inglot #452 (P, $6.00) is more shimmery, lighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

That. Is. So. Pretty.
Purple smoky eyes are my favorite, but I do wish that black was a bit better… :/
I agree – and it should be!
Such a pretty duo! Shades like these are my absolute favorite, very tempting. 🙂
Have you tried any of Guerlain’s duos before?
i just got this last week. i wasn’t planning on getting anything from the holiday guerlain collection, but then i went to the nordstrom beauty event and had a makeover at the counter. i walked out with this duo, the eyeshadow/blush palette, the rouge g, and the meteorites among other, permanent things-whoops!!
i was hoping you would review this duo b/c i wanted to see if there were any better performing shades like the burgundy. when the mua applied it, it was vibrant and lasted all day-and it was more purple. when i did it myself, it just looked kind of blah. i might just get the guerlain eyeshadow primer…that might have been the difference (i used nars)
It might have been their primer, though I haven’t used it in a long time (not even sure if it’s the same still). The look in this post is without any primer, just for reference.
Is Phoenix finally cooling down? 😉
That burgundy purple shade is rrreally beautiful! But I’d probably also pair it with different eyeshadow(s).
I liked it paired with the other duo in the collection, since it was much lighter!
Love the combination, but for the price I expect more.
Agreed!
I think this duo is stunning! I’m in love. I actually like the black being more of a charcoal gray.
I like that it’s a deeper gray and not fully black – easier to work with!
Wow, $49 for 2 shadows is a lot, and I would still need to use a couple of more shades for the crease and inner eye corner to soften up the purple and black. At this price, might as well go for Guerlains’s 4 color palette for $ 63.
Yes, duos are usually where you can spend a lot for not so much product 🙁
I feel like I already have something similar in Nars Eurydice. Not a dupe by any means, but how many variations of a smoky eye with hints of eggplant does one girl need? (Funny how I never ask that about red lipsticks.) As much as I love the Guerlain 4-shadow palettes, I have yet to purchase any of their duos. Ironically, I think that if they had combined the two holiday duos into one palette (at their usual price), I might have been more tempted.
I think their quads tend to be better. The duos seem to be hit or miss, and I think it may be in part to one shade being “glittery.”
I like this a lot, but I’ll probably not get it as it didn’t get A’s and at the cost I think it should. I do love the burgundy-purpely shades so much. I quite like tha black and while I’d use tham together I’d absolutely pair them with something a lot lighter.
I agree – I just don’t think one should have to settle at this price.
I love high end makeup but something like this to me is unreasonable for what you get. These are not unique colors and the quality doesn’t justify the price. I do like the colors but not at this price point. I feel like I’d be paying for the name only.
It should be A territory for this price!
Honestly, I’ve never taken a look at Guerlain’s eyeshadows. This little compact is so cute…and efficient….but so pricey. :/
I’ve had the most luck with their quads!
Not a fan of shimmery black or plum (it would make my eyes look red and with red hair I don’t want that). I think two dark shades together in duo is a mistake. You would need to use a lighter colour with both of these I think to make it work.
It is harder to wear these two together – like you said, a lighter color would help!
I really love that the black swan palette has a plum/purple, for some reason. Probably because I’m obsessed with purple, if I think about it… 😀 The black isn’t super exciting, but I do like that it retains its sparkle in the swatch. So many ‘black with sparkles’ shadows seem to lose the sparkles as soon as you swatch them. I think the only one that stuck like a pro to me was the Miss Sparkles shade from the Too Faced Pretty Rebel Palette. Sadly, that was from a swatch in store, and I couldn’t justify getting the whole palette at the time. I feel like I might have to remedy that someday…
It’s so annoying when an eyeshadow looks like it has sparkles, but when you swatch/apply, it’s more satin or matte with little to zero sparkles actually ON!
The burgundy looks beautiful!
It’s a stunner!
WOW! I love this combo!
Do you think you’ll be indulging in this duo, Erin?
Im a sucker for purple shades on the eyes so I’m not surprised I’m sucked in to getting this one! Such a beautiful look, Christine!!!
Aw, thanks, Shari!
Gorgeous looking combo in the palette and pan, I just wish the black had more depth/intensity but that crimson plum is to die for!! Totally inspired to go create a bold cranberry/plum and charcoal black smokey eye now 🙂
I wish it was slightly richer, too!
