MAC x Guo Pei Lotus Blossom & Red Water Lily Blushes Reviews, Photos, Swatches
MAC Lotus Blossom Blush
MAC Lotus Blossom Blush ($40.00 for TBA oz.) is described as a “light blue pink.” It’s a light-medium, yellow-toned pink with a matte finish. The texture was smooth but on the drier side with a firmer press, though it was just fine for blending on the skin, and it didn’t look powdery on. It had medium coverage that was buildable to full coverage in two layers. On me, the color lasted for seven hours before fading. I also noticed that it darkened on my skin, so it appeared warmer on my complexion and may look pinker on others. Dior Floral Pink (844) (LE, $44.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Guerlain Morning Rose (P, $52.00) is warmer (90% similar). KVD Beauty Poe (Light) (DC, ) is more muted (90% similar). YSL Singuliere (1) (P, $47.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Urban Decay Kiss Off (DC, $26.00) is more shimmery, cooler (90% similar). MAC Launch Away (LE, $24.00) is lighter (90% similar). Guerlain Smile (Right) (LE, $52.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Burberry S/S15 Runway (LE, $65.00) is lighter, more muted (90% similar). Make Up For Ever B208 (P, $23.00) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). Edward Bess Filled with Desire (P, $43.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Smith and Cult Cool Pink (P, $24.00) is cooler (90% similar). Too Faced Santa Baby (LE, ) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Burberry Misty (P, $42.00) is more muted (90% similar). ColourPop Olive (LE, $8.00) is more shimmery, cooler (90% similar). MAC What I Fancy (LE, $24.00) is warmer (90% similar). Tarte Flush (P, $29.00) is darker (90% similar). Kevyn Aucoin Pink Sand #2 (PiP, ) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). MAC Lovecloud (P, $24.00) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). MAC Modest Blush (LE, $29.00) is warmer (95% similar). NARS Kingpin (LE, $30.00) is darker (85% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
MAC Red Water Lily Blush ($40.00 for TBA oz.) is described as a “light coral pink.” It’s a brighgt, medium pink with subtle, warmer undertones and a satiny sheen. It was intensely pigmented, and a little went a long way, so this will be a great option for a wide spectrum of skin tones. It may look cooler or warmer depending on your undertones as well. The texture was finely-milled, smooth enough that it blended out without a struggle, but it was a little dusty/dry to the touch. The color started to fade after eight hours of wear. Tarte Montage (LE, $29.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). MAC Sunset Beach (LE, $32.00) is cooler (95% similar). By Terry Tan & Flash Cruise #1 (LE, ) is lighter (95% similar). Kosas Longitude Zero (High Intensity) (Blush) (PiP, ) is less shimmery (95% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Wicked (P, $60.00) is warmer (95% similar). Sephora Love Sick (22) (P, $14.00) is more muted (95% similar). NARS Adoration (Right) (PiP, ) is lighter, more muted (90% similar). MAC Happy-Go-Rosy (P, $29.00) is less shimmery, lighter, warmer (90% similar). Rare Beauty Nearly Rose (P, $21.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Chanel Rose Tourbillon (67) (LE, $45.00) is less shimmery, lighter (90% similar). NARS Panic (Left) (PiP, ) is cooler (90% similar). NARS Loves Me (LE, $30.00) is lighter (90% similar). Clinique Berry Pop (03) (P, $21.00) is brighter, cooler (90% similar). Rare Beauty Grace (P, $23.00) is less shimmery, warmer (90% similar). ColourPop Clutch (P, $8.00) is less shimmery, warmer (90% similar). Jouer Seduce Me (PiP, ) is less shimmery, cooler (90% similar). MAC Whole Lotta Love (P, $23.50) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Bite Beauty Macaroon (P, $24.00) is more muted (90% similar). Too Faced Your Love is King (P, $26.00) is warmer (95% similar). Becca Hibiscus Bloom (DC, $34.00) is more shimmery, lighter, warmer (90% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
The MAC x Guo Pei collaboration launches online on September 24th at maccosmetics.com, and it will only be available at MAC 5th Avenue in NYC and MAC at South Coast Plaza (in southern California) for U.S. locations.

Thanks SO much for the reviews! I’ve been eagerly awaiting this collection. The blushes are so pretty, and I was eyeing Lotus Blossom but had to pass as I wanted a shadow quad. I heard that the flower design is actually fabric. I’m wondering if it will hold up —are those fabric fibers on the blush packaging ?
Yes, the exterior of the lid is fabric!
Thanks Christine for the excellent reviews! but the actual package of the blush is it plastic or more metallic? Thanks
It’s more metal-like – it’s very thin and light, but it is more bendable like really thin metal might be.
Fabric? any like coating over it? Could it be wiped off?
It feels like a plastic-y fabric, but I don’t really know what it’s made out of.
Sounds like it’s fairly wipable. Puts this stuff back on my wish list. In a way, I was hoping to not want it,lol
For the Guo Pei Moonlight powder, it says this post is closed for comments.
Fixed, sorry! I don’t know how it got checked that way – just me being a colossal idiot!
Awww, don’t be so harsh on yourself, Christine. You do a FABULOUS job, you probably just hit the wrong button by accident, we’re all human.
Katherine, I have a blush trio from that Tartan Tales collection years back and it’s covered in plaid fabric and it has stood up fine, although I don’t really take it in my purse with me – it stays at home but it has held up perfectly (better than some plastic designs where the painted design starts to wear off quite quickly)
Oh good to know! I’ll be treating this collection with kid gloves anyway. It will probably be a collectors item, and as painfully pricey as this collection is, it’s probably the only thing I can afford from Guo Pei, unless I win the lotto LOL
OMG! Both are so so pretty on you! I hope I am able to grab them before they are sold out
Thanks, Dani! Good luck!
Water Lily is really pretty. But, dupable. I just noticed the new disclaimer that is not going to be available at all stores? Hmm. I don’t like staying up all night and the launch date is a Thursday. That is a work/school day. I work form home. So, I can juggle it usually. But, I often have to run to the office and take conference calls or go to onsite meetings. It just gets annoying to plan and research and then everything sells out in 3 minutes. So, I may just save my $ on this collection. I guess I have to look at like I did those “Epic Rewards” at Sephora.
I reached out to MAC to find out about the “select locations” (that is all they write in the press release), and it turns out select really means two.
Nicole, I got a tip from another reader Jilliene and called MAC store in South Coast Plaza. In the USA, there are only 2 stores that will be selling this collection – South Coast Plaza in CA and one store in NY. But you can call the South Coast Plaza store to pre-order any eye or lip products, but they aren’t taking any pre-orders for face products yet, and not sure if they will. I pre-ordered the Night Sky shadow quad last night. If you see something you really really like, I suggest pre-ordering now because it’s going to be crazy trying to get this collection online, have a feeling things will sell out fast.
Thanks Katherine so much for the tip! I may wait for the reviews. But, the gold quad is the one I’m eyeing.
Katherine, I have a question for you: How does one preorder? I have never done it before, so I haven’t got a clue!
Oh, it’s really easy. You call up the MAC store in South Coast Plaza CA 714-751-2142 and place your order with an SA. She will charge your credit card, then the items will ship on Oct 1. On Oct 1, you can call the store to get a tracking order. If you pre-order, you are guaranteed the item. It’s a $7 flat shipping charge, and you can return at any MAC store if it doesn’t work out. They are taking pre-orders for eyes and lip products, but not face/powder products at the moment. I think this collection is going to sell out really fast online, so if you want something really bad, I suggest pre-ordering. There’s only one other MAC store in NYC (forgot which one) that will have the collection, but not sure if they are taking pre-orders.
I took your advice Katherine! I just ordered Morning Light! It was almost $83 with shipping and tax. Oh my goodness! I’m so nervous because I didn’t wait for the review. That’s the most I’ve ever spent on 4 shadows before. I hope they score as nicely as the other quad. But, I’m worried it will sell out. Did you get the impression or find out if you were able to cancel or return? The SA was really fast on the phone.
I talked to the SA last night, she was really nice and patient. They are getting a lot of calls for pre-sale, so I think this whole collection will sell out fast. And I bet Morning Light will sell out faster than Night Sky because a lot of people like browns/golds (more than blues/blacks) and that pink is so unique looking! From looking at the swatches, I think Morning Light will score very well, and if it doesn’t work for you, you can always return to any MAC store. Or if you ebay it, I bet you can sell it for a LOT more than $83. Either way, you can’t lose. Yeah, I was absolutely cringing at the price, but I know I will regret it forever if I didn’t get Night Sky in that lovely floral design, and since you only live once, might as well go for it! I also like some of the lippies/glosses, but those colors are more dupe-able, so I’m going to wait for reviews on those.
Can you order it through them even if you don’t live in southern California? And have it shipped to you?
Absolutely! The SA says it’s a $7 flat shipping charge. And you can return at any MAC store if you don’t like it. Hope you can get some items!
Katherine, you just made me feel so much better! Thank you! I need to learn how to sell on Ebay so badly! No Mac stores near me-just a couple of counters. But, I’m sure it will be beautiful. Night Sky is so gorgeous too. I really want that one also. I gasped at Christine’s look- amazing! I’m not sure my wallet could handle it though!
Red Water Lily is so beautiful, but thankfully there are many dupes to choose from! I’m glad this rated well though for those who plan on getting it. 🙂
Yay for dupes!
Water Lily is really pretty.
It is!
Aaaahhhhhh Red Water Lily is soooo pretty! I’m so excited! I’ll get this one and maybe 1 lipstick. But the eye shadow quads look amazing too! The swatches are unbelievable! But the price is sooo over the top too. Haha
The price is high for sure!
Glad these got good reviews especially for those that will be getting them. I will be passing on this collection as it is just too expensive for me.
It’s a lot for sure – you are paying primarily for packaging (the formulas don’t seem different than your average MAC formula).
That is good to know Christine. It is good to know I am not missing out an AMAZING different formula in these products or anything by passing.
That Red Water Lily looks so good on you! Thanks for the review. Now I know which blush to get…
Thanks, Sylvia!
Will this collection be sold in Europe?
Sorry, the information I get only states “International” but doesn’t specify.
Red Water Lilly is very pretty. I am not sure I could pull it off but it’s very nice! I have Berry Pop, which is similar and brighter but I think the cool undertone is better suited to my skin.
Berry Pop is better! 🙂
Really, for $40 (and more here in Canada), as much as I think Red Water Lily is pretty, I will opt for the Sephora dupe for $24 LESS (and it has the same rating of A-)
You’re paying mostly for packaging with these MAC luxe collections, unfortunately!
Oh, and may I ask why the comments are closed for the Beauty Powder? I do like your explanation of what they are, Christine because I only have 1 Beauty Powder and I honestly don’t know how to use it – it’s too light for a blush (and I’m pretty fairskinned) and too pink for an allover powder….it sits there, ignored and unused!
They shouldn’t be – just means I’m an idiot and somehow managed to check off comments!
You may have inadvertently clicked something you shouldn’t have but you are certainly NO idiot, Christine, and I think everyone else here would back me up on that!
Well, the weird thing is that it’s an option at the very, very bottom of the post’s page, which I never go to (because I never need to go that far, lol), and I cannot for the life of me figure it out how it could have happened!
These are both lovely. Of the whole collection, the Red Water Lily blush is the most tempting for me. It’s really beautiful.
It is gorgeous!
Red Water Lily Blush is very pretty but I think this collection will definitely be too difficult for me to get a hold of unfortunately. 🙂
Going to be a mad dash for sure!!
Red Water Lily is gorgeous and the packaging is gorgeous, but I can not stomach the $40 price tag! My wallet is happy– I’ll have to check out some of the dupes instead!
I totally understand! I am long past being sold on packaging, so if I was just a regular customer, I don’t think I could purchase 🙁
Will this be available on department store websites as well, or just Mac’s website?
maccosmetics.com only
Red Water Lily is the one blush from this collection that I actually consider getting, so I’m happy to hear it performs so well 🙂
YAY!
*Gasp* !!! I LOVE Red Water Lily!? That blush is a stunner, and I may have to try and nab it, although I fear it will sell out before October 1st when I next have the extra $$$….?
It is a pretty one!
I’m really digging Red Water Lily! It’s very pretty and I just can’t get over the packaging for this collection. Now I just have to worry about actually being able to get my hands on this stuff lol
It is! It seems like it is going to be hard 🙁
Both very pretty, and both got good grades, still if the collection makes it here it’ll be expensive, so unfortunately I think its a pass.
They are very pricey 🙁
Better than the Tom Ford ombre blushes, eh? Lol. They do look so pretty, I will have to see what I can manage to get once it launches in the UK, I’d love to have just one item from the collection!
Not hard to be better, LOL!
How pretty both of these are on you Christine! Hard to pick a favorite cause they are both so pretty. I have a really bad habit of collecting every dang blush MAC throws at us-& this is soooo tempting.
Thank you, Trish!
I like them both! But since I own way too many blushes. I’m buying the blue palette.
Glad you found something you want in the launch!
