MAC x Charlotte Olympia Cream Colour Bases Reviews, Photos, Swatches
MAC Golden Age Cream Colour Base
MAC Golden Age Cream Colour Base ($23.00 for 0.16 oz.) is described as a “metallic antique bronze.” It’s a shimmering, golden bronze with warm undertones and a fine, pearly shimmer-sheen finish. Unless heavily layered, it had a much more subdued sheen than overtly shimmery. On eyes, it lasted for five hours before creasing, and on cheeks, it lasted for six and a half hours before migrating noticeably. The texture is creamy, highly emollient, and never fully sets, so it retains a dewier finish overall. It had semi-sheer, buildable coverage, as described. There was something about the base color that seemed harder to even out on the skin, though. This shade did include a warning that it is “not for use in the lip area” (Cream Colour Bases are multi-tasking products). Laura Mercier Seduction (P, $45.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Give Me Glow Take Me to the Tropics (P, $17.25) is lighter (90% similar). ColourPop Candyman (P, $10.00) is warmer (90% similar). ColourPop Paradise Cove (P, $8.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). MAC Royal Vibrancy (LE, $42.00) is less shimmery, darker, cooler (85% similar). Burberry Summer Glow (P, $48.00) is warmer (85% similar). NARS Casino (P, $38.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Fenty Beauty Sand Castle (PiP, $36.00) is lighter, cooler (85% similar). NARS Laguna (P, $38.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Salt New York Bronze (P, $16.00) is less shimmery, darker, cooler (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
MAC Sepia Cream Colour Base ($23.00 for 0.16 oz.) is described as a “dirty chocolate-brown.” It’s a muted, dark taupe brown with neutral-to-warm undertones and a dewy sheen. It had semi-sheer, buildable color payoff with a lightweight, emollient texture that never fully dries down, so it has a wetter finish on the skin but doesn’t look greasy. On eyes, this lasted for five and a half hours, and on cheeks (I used it as a contour), it lasted for six and a half hours. LORAC Deep Contour (P, ) is less glossy (90% similar). NYX Hollow (P, $5.00) is warmer, less glossy (90% similar). Tarte Contour Deep (Tarteist) (LE, ) is lighter, more muted, less glossy (90% similar). KVD Beauty Subconscious (PiP, ) is less glossy (90% similar). MAC Coffee Walnut (LE, $20.00) is warmer (85% similar). Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Medium (PiP, ) is warmer (85% similar). LORAC Medium Contour (P, ) is lighter, less glossy (85% similar). Kevyn Aucoin Medium (P, $44.00) is lighter, less glossy (85% similar). Dior Independent (823) (LE, $48.00) is more shimmery, lighter, cooler (80% similar). Smashbox Contour (PiP, ) is lighter, cooler, less glossy (80% similar). elf Vacay Mood (P, $7.00) is more shimmery, lighter, cooler (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Skip for me. I love to use MAC cream base under powder blushes, but they will too greasy to use on my oily lids, and these are too dark to use on my cheeks. Plus, the packaging looks kind of cheap for a Hollywood retro theme collection
Gotcha! 😀
Just have to make a rant about MAC because I just this minute received an email where they are retracting the advertised ‘sale’ price they placed on the Dusky Rose palette from an email yesterday. That is such bullsh*t. Choke it back and stand by your original communication. Seriously. Such bad form. Tacky.
pass on these two shades. Was interested with the promo post, but your helpful swatches made the decision for me.
Whoa, whoa, whoa. They did what? I need to go check to see if I received that as well…
Way to stay classy, MAC. (*dripping with sarcasm*)
Nice, but pretty dupable. Thank you, Christine!
No problem!
Love the packaging on this collection…but I’ll be passing on these. Thanks for your review!
No problem, Michele!
Christine, this look you did totally suits you! Makes you look like a movie star! Then again, we know how I love me a red lipped, pin-up neutral eye, bronzey cheek look!
As for these Cream Color Bases, I use them thinly under flakey Lustre type or other glittery, flakey eyeshadows to make them stay all day, and they work well for that. The Maria Moretti one I bought last summer works great as a facial highlighter or slightly sticky eyeshadow base.
That’s a great way to use them, Nancy! Thank you for sharing 🙂
I can see these being popular but so not for me!
We shall see how they do!
I really like both of these over all they give your face a classic look esp with that red lipstick
Glad to hear it!
hmmm.
how did you feel about Sepia as a contour?
It will work for the right skin tone, but my skin tone is the wrong one to show it off on. Sorry!
Hi Christine, would love if you can tell me what the ‘right’ skin tone would be. i dont have it available in my city and our returns policy is non existent if i were to take a gamble and buy online 🙁 im about an nc20-25 (super warm), would this not be suitable?
thanks so much
I think someone who is yellower, maybe a little darker 🙂 I am closer to neutral than true yellow!
I don’t think this is in the permanent line. The one listed online is called ‘Midtone Sepia,’ not just ‘Sepia.’ Do you know from MAC it’s the same?
Thanks for pointing that out, Allie – I could have sworn it was just Sepia and I even checked – just shows you how dumb I can be! I will update my post to reflect that.
I don’t think I’d use such a product, but I do like the result on your skin.
Thank you!
I find it really hard using products that doesn’t set. I keep touching and feeling so they get moved around by myself. On my eyes the Cream Color Base I’ve tried don’t last long at all, and I ruin the product when used on my face, as I said. I haven’t tried it on the lips but I might just have to.
So in short, I’ll pass on these, though I like the look of Golden Age.
Haha! Yes, I can see that. It’s definitely a different feeling on the skin.
I’ve been eyeing sepia as a cream contour option as i like the cream colour bases; and what better time to get it than in cute Charlotte Olympia packaging. they also seem to be better value? the standard ones are 0.12 oz for $22
Sepia should work well for contouring! It screamed “contour” to me as soon as I saw it!
I like these products as contour, but they seem quite shimmery for that purpose.
Sepia should work better as a contour – not shimmery like the other one!
I really like the color of Sepia, although it’s probably a bit dark for me. Maybe for a really dramatic look!
It could be used in a dramatic look!
I looked this up because the product was just released in my country and I just have to say you look gorgeous in that shot, Christine! 🙂
Thank you, Katharina!
