MAC Wonder Woman Experiment: Lady Justice

MAC Wonder Woman Look Experiment: Lady Justice

This quad was a pain in the behind to use–the colors just didn’t want to stick or blend together. Very, very finnicky and difficult to work through; this was attempt number two, as well. I would have scrapped this look and never posted, because it looks awful, but I thought perhaps it would show just why I was so disappointed in these quads.

Lady Justice was a disaster–fall out everywhere and it did not want to apply smoothly whatsoever.  Bold Babe was stiff and did not want to blend out.  I tried adding Deep Truth towards the end, in hopes that the more pigmented shadow would help this look along but no luck.  The fall out you see is after I cleaned underneath the eye–twenty minutes after.

I was going to do a subtler lip to pair with this look, but I loathed the eyes and at the very least wanted to try a fun lip combo.

You will need the following…

For eyes, start by applying Smudgeproof as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. Using the 239, apply Insurmountable eyeshadow on the lower lid. Lightly blend Bold Babe eyeshadow above the crease with the 222. Apply Deep Truth eyeshadow in the crease with the 239 held horizontally.   Use Lady Justice eyeshadow on the inner tear duct to brighten.  Blend Trench eyeshadow with the crease shade and highlight the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying Dime on the lower lash line. Finish by sweeping lashes with Themyscira Opulash mascara.

For cheeks, apply Amazon Princess blush on the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.

For lips, apply Marquise d’ lipstick first, then layer Athena’s Kiss lipglass for a complementing lip.

Are you going to go for a 3 out of 3 disappoint and do a look with the final quad? The green one looks pretty and I hope it doesn’t disappoint

El Avatar

omg, I used this quad at our MAC update and we had to do each other’s eyes. I kept telling the other artist “I’m so sorry, it’s just not blending!” I get so intimidated to do another’s artist’s makeup and it was even worse when the products weren’t cooperating 🙁

Charlotte Avatar

Where was the glitter applied on your lips? And at least the mascara is pretty! I really like the combination for this look – shame the products let you down.

Ashley Avatar

Wow, it’s a shame that the quads are so terrible. I’ll probably be picking up Deep Truth one of these days though. That at least looks really lovely! The lip combo is gorgeous though, I love that you added the glitter in it, it looks really awesome and sparkly! The blush looks lovely on you too, maybe I should have bought one of the blushes afterall!

Gisele Avatar

Kudos to you, Christine, for putting up with the frustration just so that you could show us how it looks. You do look lovely, and the lips are gorgeous. You did a great job with cleanup, but, really, cleanup is for brushes, not your face, at least not before going to bed!

Heli Avatar

I’m happy you decided to do a fun lip combo. Lips and cheeks are definitely the highlights of this look. Love the close-up of your lips!

Your eyelashes are usually fabulous but Opulash seems to be sticking them together. I wanted to get the purple mascara but I only need volume for my long lashes so will be skipping the whole collection.

Gina Avatar

Oh dear. For it to look that uneven on someone with your talent, it must be so terrible. Thank you so much, Christine! You did a lot of people a favor by informing us about this palette!

Laia Avatar

Even though I see what you mean with the eyeshadow quad being a total fail, what I really like of your look is your lip colour. You truly make me want to get Marquise D’ and Athena’s Kiss (maybe Spitfire and Emancipation too!) 😀

Katie Avatar

The lips are pretty, though, and your skin’s been looking great! Such a shame because there was potential with the e/s colors and the collection, you know? It’s Wonder Woman! With that said, MAC keeps pumping out collection after collection, but what’s the point if the quality is so-so every time?

Ruby Avatar

Gorgeous! I’m not a fan of blue eyeshadows but this look is just amazing!

I can’t wait to get my hands on the Wonder Woman collection, it comes out in March here in Geneva switzerland! 🙁

Chris25 Avatar

Considering how troublesome the eyeshadows were, I am impressed with how you made it work. The only thing is, the blush looks a little too bright. Maybe you could try applying less of it? Other than that, good job!

anonymous Avatar

it’s a valiant attempt lol. I know the fault lies in the shadows & not the MUA. it’s a pretty look but doesn’t look easy. I didn’t really feel the shades on this quad and I have a definite weakness for blue anything (even bought peacocky for fun)– it just didn’t come together and none of the shades was as pretty as my balm, UD, duwop blues.

Constanze Avatar

I can totally see what you mean, though I think you’re much too beautiful to look awful 😉 And the blue opulash makes your brown eyes really pop. It’s sad that the quads are of so little quality…

LH Avatar

The quad is disappointing thank you for showing how they aren’t behaved on the lid. The lips are gorgeous you can pull off any lip color- wish I could do that lol. Do you think if I have hot house I could skip Athena’s kiss or is there a big enough difference in the two to justify having both?

Brandon Avatar

I don’t think the look is NEARLY as bad as you do Christine! In fact, the whole look has a sort of fun sort of Barbie/pseudo-80’s feel that we don’t really see you wear =]

The only thing I would have done different was use a liner color that isn’t gold, and line the upper waterline as well.

AS Avatar

I actually really liked this look with the Lightfully Bright lip swatches – the light, ethereal, cool colors make for sort of an updated mod 60s look. Maybe not your taste, but really interesting for us. Besides, slightly chalky/patchy was the trademark of that era 🙂 Now you just need a silver tunic and moon boots.

Nora Avatar

It seems like the more you applied the lid color, the more it rubbed off. I sympathize! That’s like the worst thing an eyeshadow can do (why I hate Honesty by MAC. Somehow it looks good on one eye but it blends right off the other, so frustrating!)

Still looks good on you. I especially like the lips. I’m so tempted by all the purples in this collection!

Lena Avatar

Ahhh that is some really poor quality eyeshadow! 🙁 It feels disrespectful of MAC to put out bad products like that, like they expect us to buy it and be happy just because it is WW… don’t like that.
At least the lips look good!

Arantzazu Avatar

I love how these colours look on you (for me, nearly every bright colour on your eyes looks amazing!) but I don’t like so much the effect of the mascara =S
Seems that it reduces your lashes, don’t know…

Dawn Avatar

Love the lips!

In a way, I’m glad the eyeshadows suck, because it means I can skip them and not worry that I’ve missed out on something good. I’ve just spent enough on Peacocky as it is. I’m definitely planning on getting Marquise ‘d, Spitfire and Athena’s Kiss, though.

Nadia Avatar

Your eyes look beautiful!!!

Thank you for all your reviews. I am on a budget righr now and can’t be spending a lot of money on makeup. But even then, thank you to your reviews, photos, and swatches, I realized that there was not even one item that I wanted from this collection.

Amanda Avatar

The quad sounds terrible judging by your description; however, I must say it is a true testament to your talent that you still manage to make it look as good as it does!!

ellen Avatar

I get what you’re saying about the shadows being sheer, but I really like the look! Smoky without being over the top. I can only pull off dark eye looks if they’re fairly sheered out like this. Good work!

LU Avatar

Christine, maybe using UDPP added to making the shadows hard to blend along with the poor pigmentation, I definitely have that problem with UDPP.
I love the lips! So fun! 🙂

Marie Avatar

I didn’t read your intro and just looked at the pics – could only marvel at your talent and only had compliments for the whole look. Then I scrolled to the comments and was shocked to see so much negativity! Decided to read the post, which clarified others’ comments for sure LOL. But still, as a makeup lover but not overly obsessed, I didn’t notice anything wrong!

Laura Avatar

I LOVE the lips and the lower lash line. The effect you created is rather interesting and cool! 🙂
What a disappointment…especially from this company. Looks like they spent more time/money on the packaging than the actual product! And to think I was seriously excited about this one and knew it was stuff my husband would let me get because he LOVES wonder woman! LOL!

Ruth Avatar

I found this post helpful, as WW isn’t out here until March, and based on your reviews I thought I wanted the blue and green mascaras and maybe a blush (or maybe both). I now know the mascaras will show up on my eyelashes (which are dark likes yours). I’m going to buy them. Thanks 🙂

Carolina Avatar

Uh oh, the close up of the eye looks like something I’d do (aka not good). Those eyeshadows must be a b!tch to work with, but in the end I have to give kudos to your mastery of makeup, because from afar it looks great. The lips look amazing though, as does the face.
Clearly the proof behind your “not to buy” reccomendation. Great work, Christine.

Lah Avatar

you said it look awful but it actually caught my attention. I really liked it. and i tend to skip the eye looks ’cause i don’t know how to wear eyeshadow (asian eyes, no crease)

Morena123 Avatar

I like the look. Have you thought about doing other looks besides the usual Light color on the lid/Dark Color in the makeup look???

Also I see that you use Nars sheer glow instead of MUFe HD. Which do you think is better?

Kimmy Avatar

Christine,
In one of your responses to someones comments, you said you felt the crease was uneven and the eyeshadow was blotchy. I just don’t see it! It all looks very nice to me! The glitter with the lip gloss was a very nice and creative touch. Love!

Nadia-Francina Avatar

I too noticed the fall out with this product, the only way it worked for me was when I packed it on. It used a lot of makeup, however, but because I loved these colours so much, I decided to buy a second of this same palette.
