MAC Wonder Woman: Opulash Mascara

MAC OPULASH MASCARA ($15.00 for 0.38 oz.) is a thickening mascara that also lengths and helps with holding a curl, and it is a “long-wearing formula” designed to work for up to fifteen hours. Wonder Woman sees the release of these shades; Army of Amazons (green), Bad Bad Black (black), Themyscira (blue), and Victorious (purple). The Bad Bad Black shade is available permanently but in permanent packaging.

  • Army of Amazons is a muted emerald green.
  • Bad Bad Black is a deep black.
  • Themyscira is a violet-tinged blue.
  • Victorious is a medium purple.

my thoughts on the formula: I liked the soft, feathery look Opulash gave my lashes along with some very nice length! I’m actually surprised I didn’t see length pushed in the marketing write-up for Opulash, because I look at the before/after photos, and I see longer, slightly blacker lashes, but not necessarily a ton of volume. I found two or three quick coats was all you needed to get the feathery lash effect going. More than that resulted in a bit of clumping, but if you don’t load up your lashes with the product, it’s a nice, full and feathery lash that’s clump-free. You can see my full review of Opulash here.

I have only trialed Army of Amazons on my lashes (well, and the black shade, many months ago, when Opulash first released), but I was impressed with the amount of noticeable color it delivered. I did not use any primer, but my lashes definitely have that green tint. Colored mascaras usually look rather dull and muted (if they show at all) on my lashes, wihch are naturally a soft black. As I work through the other shades, if I find that any of the others perform less, I will revise this review at that time.

final thoughts: I like the Opulash mascara formula, and it’s a good mascara for those who have decent lashes to begin with.  It lengthens more than it volumizes or thickens for me, though.  So far, it seems like the color actually shows up surprisingly well even over black lashes.

* Due to the sensitivity of my eyes, I only swatched one of the mascaras. I will certainly work on using the other shades in looks. I didn’t want to end up with eye irritation when I still have lots of work to do for Wonder Woman reviews, so I hope you understand and I apologize if I have disappointed you.

I really want to try the blue one! It’s hard to find blue mascaras at the drugstore. I never bought the BADgal one because it was too expensive for a mascara! MAC’s will be a nice in between.

I have black eye lashes and Bad Gal doesn’t show up on me anyhow (or hold a curl), definitely look for Maybelline Great Lash in Blue like Crissy has advised!

Fey Avatar

That is such a beautiful green, really different from most green mascaras I have. And the purple looks gorgeous as well! Man! Look at the blue shimmer in the violet!

Emily Avatar

Omg, Christine! Are you wearing contact lenses in the picture where you show the mascara? It kind of looks like your iris is leopard-printed! It’s pretty! xD

Marie Avatar

You shouldn’t have to apologize over looking out for yourself! Thanks for the effort you put into the blog, Christine. It’s much appreciated 🙂

those who respect you deserve respect but no reason to apologize to anyone for anything like that. it would take most bloggers weeks to come up with half the info & half the quality. if someone thinks they can match your standards they should give it a try. remember to have fun and enjoy not obligation or you’ll burn out

Don’t worry about it Christine! You do so much for the blog! You don’t need to apologize for such a small thing. We appreciate your work!

Is the formula for the purple one thicker? It looks like it swatched differently.

Thank you SO MUCH for doing all this. We really appreciate all the work you do.

I want the purple one! I may have to hold out & wait to see what the Zoom Coloured Mascaras are and what colors they will have. I’m not sure yet. I may still buy. Tx Christine!!

this seems to be the only exciting item in the entire collection! i also have uber sensitve eyes as well – did the formula bother your eyes at all christine?

fiaspice Avatar

Thanks for the sawtch. I think most of us understand you can’t do all of them, I’m glad you did one so we have an idea about the color payoff.

Ru Avatar

Does this mascara hold a curl? Also, will you be doing a tutorial for that eye look? It looks so nice. If not, can you point me to a similar eye look from your archives.

Abbey Avatar

i understand the sensitivity involved in putting on mascara, removing, reapplying, removing. so definitely don’t push your limits, but i’m looking forward to seeing the other colors on your lashes when you get to it. 🙂

hmm… okay… I can maybe go with the packaging if they can delivery blue & purple mascara that works. colored mascaras always seem either terrible formula or the color is invisible or weird tints. I’d consider these if I saw them work. badgal was horribly clumpy & thick, korres just uncomfortable.

Lis Avatar

Mac should have released colored mascara years ago, what is there problem. What is up with them releasing new collections every 5 mins. We are in a recession not all people can afford this shit.

Miss Tish Avatar

I wonder how the color payoff would be on me. I have some Hard Candy colored ones (hot pink and teal) and the only way you can see them on my lashes at all is to layer it over the white end of a black-and-white mascara.

Danielle Avatar

I really hate to bother you Christine but are you going to upload pictures of how the other colors look on lashes? I have dark lashes like you and I want to see how the color shows up. I really appreciate how much time and effort you put into posting info about this collection so quickly even though it took a lot of work!

Leah Avatar

I have the blue mascara, ( I have black lashes, that are very light at the ends) and what I’ve noticed is that the mascara looks true to color in bright light, or when i put a lot on, but in normal lighting it just looks a hint blue, almost black. I kind of like that, because i can have everyday mascara if i put a little on, and bright blue if I use a lot.

Eleanor Avatar

How long can you keep this mascara for?

I really need help, I dont know whether to get the lipstick in spitfire, or the opulash in victorious please help!
