MAC Wonder Woman: Defiance Eyeshadow Quad

MAC DEFIANCE EYESHADOW QUAD ($40.00 for 0.20 oz.) includes four shades of eyeshadow: Defiance (iridescent white pink), Paradise Island (soft warm pink), Star Studded (mid-tone violet pink), and Real Drama (dark burgundy with pink pearl).

  • Defiance is a pale pink-tinged white with a iridescent pink flash. This is a veluxe pearl finish. It reminded me of Vanilla pigment.
  • Paradise Island is a pale pink with subtle cool undertones. This is a satin finish. It’s like a satin finish Pink Freeze. It was a touch sheer.
  • Star Studded is a berried plum with soft gold micro-shimmer. This is a satin finish. This shade was noticeably sheer.  Fig. 1 would be the closest permanent dupe.
  • Real Drama is a burgundy-brown with soft shimmer. This is a satin finish. It was a little sheer, though not as sheer as Star Studded. It is a little browner than Sketch.

I wasn’t impressed with this quad–three of the four shades were less-than-pigmented, with Star Studded being rather sheer. The texture wasn’t as soft or as silky as I’d like to see in an eyeshadow. I only liked Defiance, wihch had a beautiful, smooth application and even color pay off.

  • Product: 22/30
  • Value: 8/10
  • Ease of Use: 4/5
  • Packaging: 4/5

final thoughts: This will complement cooler, paler skin tones. I don’t think it’s worth grabbing, because the pay off of the majority of the shades is really underwhelming.

I had been wanting to love this one, but it’s a bit disappointing, and I can’t justify paying that price for one colour I love and others I’m so-so about. Why is it that the burgundy-brown colours always look much more brown than burgundy?

i really love the look of this, but your review has changed my mind. i’m tossing up between this one and the blue one, but i really would love some nice pink shadows.

I feel that all of these palettes in collection are a waste of money. For the money that your paying for it you should just add 4 more dollars and get the urban decay naked palette for a way better value or something esle

I’ve already got a decent stash of pink shadows and there’s nothing here that screams at me to pick it up, which is a shame because this is the palette I had highest hopes for.

When MAC shadows are good, they’re great, but their inconsistency is so frustrating!

None of the palettes stand out to me just based on colour alone. Add pigmentation/texture issues and these become totally not worth the money.

Gosh, as usually…
The quad that I desired the most has the poorest quality…
I want a more than decent quality purple eyeshadow quad!!! :((

Have to agree with Marcela on this one…

I have to say this is my favorite (color wise) of the quad palettes… Sheer isn’t always a BAD thing… I’m super fair and oftentimes I have to be very careful when applying some shadows because I’ll forever be blending/toning colors down… Of all of them, this is one that I would actually buy.

Poor pay off and light color are different, IMO. You can have a shade that is sheer or light, designed to be so, but the texture on these is so stiff, I believe these were not meant to be mere sheer washes.

I’m underwhelmed by this entire collection, from the packaging to the color choices. Saves me some $$$! Thanks for doing all of this, Christine!

After seeing )and being disappointed with) your review of Lady Justice, I turned to this quad and was thinking about getting it, but $48 for this kind of pay off is just not worth it. And I would probably rarely wear these colours anyways…. 😛

I think I would buy this quad if it wasn’t in wonder woman packaging. I love pink and burgandy together, but for it to be nested in a bold red and blue container just turns me off of it.

I was really excited for this to use for my Valentine’s day makeup. But after your review and seeing the swatches, I realized I wouldn’t buy these on their own and I’ll probably only end up using it once. Hmm. I think I’ll buy a NARS lip gloss set instead :]

I love this!!! I got it yesterday at the kickoff party and i must say i’m surprised! these swatch TERRIBLY on the hand! so different from when you put it on your lids gals! Dont leave it just yet! The purples are to die for! SOOOO pigmented and slightly shimmery! The darker purple is not brown! not at all! it blends surprisingly well with the other purple. i’ll be trying out the pinks tomorrow. put UD primer underneath these and BAM! you’ve got some crazy pigmented purple eyes! very smokey eyes look!

I actually picked this one up at the pro store as part of my WW haul today, because I liked it so much when I swatched it! I was torn between this and Valiant…I swatched Lady Justice and couldn’t even consider it, it was that bad. Plus I don’t really do blues, but pinks and greens I like.

I just bought this palette in a discounted cosmetic store last weekend… haven’t had much luck with it yet… but I got in for $28, instead of $40
