MAC Whisper of Gilt Extra Dimension Skinfinish Review, Photos, Swatches
Whisper of Gilt
MAC Whisper of Gilt Extra Dimension Skinfinish ($33.00 for 0.31 oz.) is a bright, light-medium gold with warmer, peachy-gold undertones and a metallic sheen. It was richly pigmented and had a smooth, soft consistency that was easy to apply to my skin and blended out with almost no effort at all. I didn’t find it emphasized my skin’s natural texture at higher-coverage levels. It wore well for eight and a half hours on me before it started to fade a bit.
I have had a few iterations of this product over the years, and I did notice that this version (which is permanent) was a bit lighter than the oldest one I have on hand, though I think for anyone who is fair to medium and tends to wear their highlighter at sheerer coverage levels, the difference wouldn’t be noticeable as the difference was detectable at high coverage only.

The Extra Dimension Skinfinish formula is supposed to give “the perfect glow to the skin” with a “creamy powder formula” that wears for “10 hours.” It’s a powder highlighter that I’d describe as a moderate to intense highlighter, and they come in varying hues with some that might work as highlighting blushes/bronzers are on some skin tones and true highlighters on other skin tones. In general, the formula is very pigmented, blendable, and wears around eight to nine hours on me.

Great to see you revisiting older reviews!
I do find that MAC has changed some of their blushes / powders / eyeshadow formulas over time. It’s great to see improvements, but new iterations sometimes give slight changes in how the color looks on skin.
This isn’t a revisiting – I tested a more current version (made recently, not years ago), just to be clear.
I know this is a really popular product so I am really glad that MAC made it permanent. But it’s too dark and warm toned for me to use as a highlight, though I might just give it a try one of these days, just for the heck of it and because it’s so popular.
I’m thrilled that MAC added this much beloved and popular shade to their permanent line! Whisper Of Gilt is a classic!
A lot of people love Whisper Of Gilt but I looked so similar to Oh Darling … And this is in the same range.
I am so glad Mac made this permanent. I have been wanting to try this for a while.
I have Whisper of Guilt. It is too dark for me to use as a highlighter but it makes a lovely blush topper and sometimes I use it on my eyes. It is so beautiful I wish it would work as a highlight for me.
A beautiful shade and such a classic.
The Original Whisper of Gilt was being sold on eBay for $100-$300 dollars. Mac seems to bring back limited editions a lot, although the ones I want don’t seem to get reissued.
This is a nice famous shade but I prefer Oh Darling on my skintone.
