MAC Vintage Selection Pro Longwear Paint Pot Review, Photos, Swatches
MAC Vintage Selection Pro Longwear Paint Pot
MAC Vintage Selection Pro Longwear Paint Pot ($18.50 for 0.17 oz.) is described as a “frosted dirty peach.” It’s a subtly, warm-toned, lightened brown with a slightly frosted, champagne sheen. Make Up For Ever #13 is less warm-toned. Benefit RSVP is also similar. bareMinerals Libation is very similar but a powder product.
Of the seven shades (Let Me Pop! wasn’t available for purchase when I bought these, but since there wasn’t a noticeable difference between these and when they originally debuted, you can see a swatch here), Vintage Selection was by far the best performer. It was nicely pigmented, incredibly blendable, and applied beautifully–smoothly, evenly, and wore all day long without fading or creasing. This is the kind of consistency and quality that made Paint Pots my go-to base for years (and more to the point, what made them so popular when they originally debuted). It’s creamy with just the right amount of slip to make for quick and easy blending and application, but it still dries down and sets without ever gathering in the creases.
FYI: the ingredient list for the Pro Longwear Paint Pots is the same as for the regular Paint Pots when I compared against the list for Bare Study/Constructivist! It’s off by one ingredient when compared to the Paint Pots from Posh Paradise.

Yes, yes, yes! So excited this received a good grade since this is the one I missed out on before and was wanting to use for an easy, one step lip color. Thanks for getting the swatches and reviews out so quickly!
*lid not lip color… I can’t imagine how I hit the letter “p” considering it’s quite a ways away from “d.” Oy.
LOL! Okay, I was a little caught off-card, because I had been set to type “Oh, yeah! This will be a great all-over lid color,” but then was like… “Oh, lip…”
Im glad you gave this an A+ because this is the only color I was interested in.
I have RSVP, so I think I’ll probably pass on this, nice as it is.
Same here.
I really wonder why they are calling these pro longwear if they have the same ingredients list!?
Ah MAC how your choices baffle me sometimes 🙁
EEK! been waiting for this review! I’m so glad it is a good one, it’s the one I liked the best!
I rarely reach for Mac products, but this one I actually really like. Might have to give it a try
This is reminding me of maybelline color tattoo, “inked in pink”. Your swatches look pretty darn close to me. Would this be a good dupe of let’s skate?
Hi Jennifer!
Could you clarify? The comment is on Vintage Selection but then you mentioned Let’s Skate!
The last picture was captioned “Let’s Skate/Vintage Selection”. I must have gotten myself confused when I was going between pages on my phone comparing pictures.. Too many pretty colors to look at 🙂
Gotcha! I think Vintage Selection is the one you were thinking of that was closer to Inked in Pink? I would say it is a bit browner in comparison 🙂
The last photo is captioned, Let’s Skate/Vintage Selection but I’m quite sure the photo is of Vintage Selection/Let’s Skate. I own Let’s Skate and it is definitely the pink based color, to the right of the lid.
The description is based on inner lid / outer lid 🙂
Before the were rated lower. I’m confused about the improved rating. Is this color better than the others or has the formula changed?
They were rated as a *group* versus I’m rating them individually here. We also use a (slightly) different rating system now — no packaging, no value and then breakout of specific attributes like pigmentation, longevity, etc.
Please pardon if this has been asked before, but how do these MAC paint pots compare to the new Estee Lauder paint eye shadows? I am trying to decide between this one and Halo. I have blue eyes. Thanks!
They are somewhat similar, but it really depends more on the individual shade. Halo and Vintage Selection have fairly comparable textures!
I guess I’m just confused – if the ingredient list for the pro longwear paint pots is the exact same as the the regular paint pots what’s the actual difference?
One reader said that MAC tested these so they would fit the claims of “Pro Longwear,” but I didn’t see MAC list a specific hour length on the website in the description, so I’m not sure.
Good to know MAC did such a great job of clearing that up. lol. At least I’m not the only one that’s confused!
Add me to the list of confused, I was thinking the same thing when I saw your question. Marketing concept?
That’s what I’m guessing. With so many new cream shadows on the market they don’t want people to forget they have some too…
This looks like an amazing product- I bought Chilled on Ice in a past collection and it really gave paint pots a bad reputation in my mind. I definitely want to buy this- since it’s not LE I probably will wait a little while 🙂
Do you know if this collection will be available at Nordstrom and Macys too? Or just pro store and online?
Thanks so much!
As far as I know, they will be perm everywhere!
I ordered Let’s Skate a day ago but this is calling my name too…some people have been criticizing these paint pots for not being matte, but I think the colors and textures are gorgeous!
what brush do you recommend for applying?
I like the MAC 249 🙂 242 works as well.
I want this one!! Champagne cream shadows are my favorite! I use them everyday, with every look…lashline to browbone, as primer, or as inner corner/browbone highlight. I have 3 cream champagne shadows right now (Benefit rsvp, Origins 03 and loreal iced latte) but can never have enough!!!
LOVE!! but how similar is this to bare study? cause I have that…
Bare Study is much, much lighter – more like a white shade 🙂
how does it compare to the chanel emerveille cream e/s? 🙂
Emerveille is darker, more coppery to me! 🙂
thanks a lot christine 🙂
I have this and it’s a favorite for making my shadow colors pop.
Again, same question Christine: the Cham-Pale paint pots got a B. This time Vintage Selection got an A+. Did the other colors from Cham-Pale pull down the overall grade? Was wondering because this seems to be the same product as the Cham-Pale ones. So, what grade would you give the old VS if you would grade them (Cham-Pale paint pots) individually?
Hi Sandrine,
There was no difference from what I could tell from the ones released in Cham-Pale to these ones, so the grade would not change.
its perfect for bronze make up.
MAC is always the best! 🙂
I may pick this one up! I purchased it when it first came out, but that version had glitter and was a complete mess of fallout if I tried to put shadow over it! This new formula/version looks so much better! 🙂
I want to try these out, but i’m concerned with the staying power and if it will crease. I have painterly and it tends to crease on me..
If Painterly creases, I would say that this might, too. It is not as thick as Painterly, but the formulas are pretty similar otherwise 🙁
I have Vintage Selection from the ChamPale Collection and this review just reminded me of how much I LOVE this paint pot… Will be wearing it tomorrow! LOL
This looks a lot like the Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo in Inked In Pink. Maybe mixed with the Barely Branded
How does this compare to the original Vintage Selection that came out a while ago? Are they the exact same? This one appears less sparkly in pics.
They are the same from what I could tell!
I’m living the reviews!!!a lot of good stuff!!!!
