MAC True Love’s Kiss Lipstick ($17.50 for 0.10 oz.) is describeds as a “clean bright red [with an Amplified finish].” It’s a brightened, medium-dark red with neutral-to-warm undertones and a very, very fine ruby shimmer and a soft sheen. MAC Head in the Clouds (LE, $16.00) is more shimmery, lighter, warmer. MAC Cherry Glaze (LE, $20.00) is sheerer. Tom Ford Beauty Rouge Fatal (LE, $45.00) is warmer, browner. MAC Night to Remember (LE, $16.00) is more matte. NARS Future Red (LE, $26.00) is brighter. Maybelline Infra-red (LE, $7.49) is slightly warmer. MAC Everyday Diva (P, $22.00) is pinker. MAC Ruffian Red (LE, $16.00) is more matte. MAC Red Racer (LE, $16.00) is slightly cooler-toned. MAC Cockney (P, $16.00) is a touch darker. Buxom Provocateur (P, $21.00) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

It seemed less like your typical Amplified finish, as it was more emollient and had more slip, so the finish also looked slightly wetter. It was mostly opaque, but it didn’t completely hide my lip freckle. It applied evenly and didn’t tug or pull on the lip. The color wore well for six hours, and it left a stain behind. I found the formula to be a smidgen drying on the whole, but it wasn’t too noticeable. It was vanilla scented but had no discernible taste (in line with MAC’s regular lipstick formula).

Right there with you Christine. I can’t say how many red lipsticks I have, but enough that they have their own dedicated drawer in my lipstick case.

I keep telling myself that i don’t need any more red lipsticks, but this is really lovely. And also distinctly different from the other reds I own. I think.

Christine, what about feathering?
This is something that I have to deal… I usually go for mattes.. but this red is gorgeous!
Thanks!

Do you know…is this collection mostly limited edition shades or just packaging? Pretty on you but I’ve seen reds that look more stunning on you many times over. Pretty, but I’m not sure it’s great.

This looks a lot brighter than the bullet and the promo pictures would make it seem. I thought it would lean a bit pinker, but I guess not! I’m still getting this though, because my prom dress is themed after Maleficent

Usually I can’t resist a red, but the swatches seems to have an orange undertone, I prefer blue-based or neutral reds. Geez MAC has been more of a miss lately, at least for me. My wallet is pleased.

Nice, but not exactly unique. Thanks for saving me money, Christine! I was only really watching out for this and the Sculpt powder since you speak of it so highly. Now I think I’ll just buy the Sculpt powder (if I can snag it fast enough!)

Kanga Rouge 2.0??? You should do a side by side with Kanga Rouge…I’m sure they look identical. I could be wrong lol.

Great colour! I think MAC should switch their regular packaging to this metallic black casing. It’s beautiful, and they need the change.

It’s pretty, but the whole collection is pretty disappointing for me. I was hoping there would be deeper shades of red, more interesting colors in eyeshadows, etc., I can’t understand why they’d release the Maleficent collection in summer. Such a wasted opportunity!

Wow, I had no true expectations for this shade. I thought it would be more of a cool, boring red. I love that it leans to neutral-warmer undertones. And that is ever so subtly sheer. Seems like a pretty fun and wearable red to me! And I don’t know but, I think that shade actually does look ‘clean’ (may be the words just got to me). Either way, I think this sleek and simple redefinition of Maleficent’s look is finally showing its appeal!

This is an absolutely lovely red. I really like the color and the shimmer – but I hate movie tie-ins! I’m not into Disney stuff, and at 29 I’d feel kind of silly pulling out a Disney-labeled lipstick in public!

I was so excited looking at it in the bullet, but the appearance of it in the swatches are disappointing for me. Boo. Oh,well…money saved!

I just started collecting MAC after viva glam nicki 2. I wish I could have purchased the villains collection. That collection had so many shades for everybody. I wish this collection was bigger. I’m kinda disappointed. 🙁

Too many red for me but I loooove this! Is it the same with Viva Glam Rihanna? Perfect for yellow undertone and medium skintone? Thanks Christine! 🙂

This is red truly is juicy red! lol! Which I gave in and ordered! Ayy! Have you tried it with the lipliner that launched with? I ordered it as well and it will be my first red MAC lipliner. Do they go well together? Although permanent, did you review this one as well? I can’t seem to find it. Thanks lady!xo

Thank you! It wears beautifully on you, and I feel your pain about the dry formula. I have been struggling with the recent Amplified finishes as they tend to bleed and feather on me. Bummer! =/ Excited to see how it works on me when it comes in.

I bought this. I already have Lady Danger and Russian Red and this is definitely different. I wear all red lips over MUFE Waterproof Lipliner in 8C and with Urban Decay Ozone around the edges. I found it to be slightly yellow-leaning and neither orange (as Lady Danger is) or blue (as Russian Red is).
