MAC Tour de Fabulous – Lipglasses

MAC Tour de Fabulous includes several limited edition shades of MAC Lipglass ($14.50 for 0.17 fl. oz.), and this post features these shades: Casual Air (frosted pale pink), Comfort & Joy (mid-tone frosty dirty mauve), It’s a Wow (mid-tone blue-pink), Knockout (red with pearl), and Real Posh (deep berry, slightly pearled).

The formula is true-to-form as far as Lipglass goes. They’re on the thicker side, and they’re tacky–they’re one of the tackier lipglosses on the market, which may or may not be a good thing. On the plus side, the tackiness means that these tend to last longer than other non-sticky lipglosses; I typically get three to four hours with these. I trialed Casual Air, Knockout, Rich Bounty, and Tour de Fabulous for wear, and they lasted four, five, four, and four hours respectively. Like all MAC lip products, these are vanilla scented but have no taste. They come in a plastic see-through tube with a doe-foot applicator.

I was really lucky, and several months ago (when Glamglass was closer to debuting), I received a single press sample of Glamglass, in the hue Rich Bounty, so I was able to test out the formula a bit. It’s a bummer that MAC wasn’t able to get these out in their anticipated form, just because the formula is very different from Lipglass. Per the original press release, Glamglass was supposed to have a brush applicator (it did), high shine (moderately true, not too much more than Lipglass), and non-sticky texture (very slick with no tackiness).

The downside to Glamglass was the slickness of the texture tended to mean the color would slip around a bit, and I found it getting on my teeth several times (which is not the norm for me). I did like the overall texture, though, which was lightweight, non-sticky, and fairly even. I like Lipglass, too–it’s a solid formula and wears longer than some other glosses–but I think fans of the Cremesheen Glass formula who desired more pigment might have found these to their liking. They actually reminded me more of the texture of 3D Glasses or Chromeglass.

  • Casual Air is a pale white-pink with lots of white shimmer but also some multi-colored shimmer, as it reflects a little teal and copper at certain angles. It’s fairly opaque, even though the color base seems rather colorless, there’s enough shimmer to make up for it. The color is kind of like MAC Good Times or MAC Pink Fade but with shimmer.
  • Comfort & Joy is a mauve-pink with just a hint of mauve in the actual color but with lots of lighter pink and mauve shimmer, so it tends to have a more semi-opaque effect on the lips. MAC Gone Romancin’ was the most similar shade I could think of, though it is a touch lighter. MAC Vacant is more lilac.
  • It’s a Wow is a slightly coraled pink with white shimmer. It’s nearly opaque in color coverage. MAC Perennial High Style is less pink and creamier. MAC Orange Tempera is peachier but similar in lightness. YSL #19 is also similar, though it has golden shimmer.
  • Knockout is a bright, intense orange-red with very, very faint orange micro-shimmer. It’s pretty much opaque on lips, and it applies surprisingly evenly for this kind of shade. Illamasqua Temper is very similar.
  • Real Posh is a darkened raspberry that leans more berry than pink with lighter pink shimmer. It’s mostly opaque on lips, and it applies fairly evenly, too, without settling too heavily into lip lines. MAC Indigo Pink is redder and darker. Lancome Untamed Plum is sheerer and plummier.

Though having a collection full of Lipglass seems kind of boring, I actually think the quality of these particular Lipglasses is better than many of the recent iterations of Lipglass we’ve seen in the seasonal collections.  If you like your lipgloss sticky and opaque, I think you’ll like these.  The color range has a good selection of lighter shades that don’t become milky and uneven on lips, but it also has a few deeper hues that will work well for winter and be able to transition into spring.

Nope, I didn’t think it was similar enough to mention! Strange Potion seems a bit less pink! Plus, the one from Venomous Villains seemed a little pinker compared to the one released with Surf Baby, so it may depend on which you have 🙂

Oh wow! I like these a lot, especially Casual Air, Comfort and Joy, and Real Posh! I’m looking forward to seeing the second half of them too 🙂 Between Casual Air and Comfort and Joy, which do you think is closer to MAC She Loves Candy from the Hello Kitty collection? I really love that one despite the fact that it seems like a pretty sheer color, it’s just perfect for so many things! I’m about half way gone with that one though, despite the fact that I try to conserve!

Hey Christine! Thanks for this- not like I need more Lipglass, but since when has that stopped me? Anyway, I was just wondering how you think It’s A Wow compares to Strange Potion? Maybe just lighter, but if I have Strange Potion, would it be silly to get It’s A Wow? Thanks for your time, you rock 🙂

Hi Nathalie,

Since you can still purchase Caqui, I’m not comfortable comparing any of the Bloggers’ Obsessons’ shades (except my own), but you’re welcome to look at the two in the Swatch Gallery for yourself 🙂 Thanks for understanding!

I agree that these look better than lots of the recent lipglasses! The color in them is much better, it seems–you can actually tell the difference between them. Comfort & Joy is lovely!

You look amazing!!! I really like these lippies. You look great wearing all of them! Your brows are AMAZING!! What do you use on them? What eyeshadow are you wearing on your lids? It is perfect. Your eyes are like warm amber. GORGEOUS 🙂

Lacey J. Avatar

I couldn’t even tell that you were wearing two lip colors in that last picture until I double checked and realised the Glam Glass is… slightly more opaque and shimmery…?

Val Avatar

I realize this collection was called Glamglass Collection and it was supposed to launch last year but for some reason MAC delayed it at the last minute and now they call it tinted lipglass…

Sephora stopped carrying Illamasqua Temper a while back, and Illamasqua may be discontinuing it altoghether.>: I’ll be sure to check out Knockout, thank you Christine! 🙂
