MAC Tease Me Velvetease Lip Pencil ($20.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “light pink.” It’s a light-medium, bubblegum pink with cool, blue undertones and fine pearl. The texture was thin and unforgiving on the lips, as it accentuated lip lines and the natural texture of the lips, despite having a seemingly-smooth feel on the lips. The color wore for three hours but settled noticeably into lip lines and was drying.

MAC Temper Tantrum Velvetease Lip Pencil ($20.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “bright orange coral.” It’s a bright, medium orange with warm, red undertones and a fine lighter orange shimmer-sheen finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation with a creamy, smooth texture that was thin but not clingy. The color wore well for five hours and was neither drying nor hydrating. KVD Beauty A-Go-Go (P, $19.00) is lighter, glossier (95% similar). MAC Neon Orange (P, $19.00) is brighter, glossier (95% similar). NARS Timanfaya (P, $25.00) is lighter (95% similar). MAC Velvet Teen Velvetease Lip Pencil ($20.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “deep blackened plum.” It’s a deepened, dark burgundy with subtle, warm undertones and a natural finish. It had a lot more slip compared to all of the other shades; this one actually slid around, which made it appear patchy and uneven on the lips. This was also the least pigmented of the entire range. On me, the color wore for three and a half hours and was neither drying nor hydrating. MAC Living Legend (LE, $19.00) is darker, warmer (95% similar). MAC Soulfully Rich (P, $18.00) is cooler (90% similar). KVD Beauty Motorhead (DC, $21.00) is lighter (90% similar). MAC Sin (P, $19.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). MAC Endless Drama (P, $18.00) is lighter (85% similar). MAC Eugenie (LE, $19.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). Christian Louboutin Beaute Eton Moi (P, $90.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Black Dahlia (10) (LE, $55.00) is lighter, brighter (85% similar). Tarte Hangry (P, $20.00) is lighter, cooler (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

FORMULA SUMMARY | MAC Velvetease Lip Pencil ($20.00 for 0.05 oz.) is supposed to have “the vivid colour impact of a lipstick” with a “smooth” and “matte finish.” The pencil has a really soft, smooth texture that is thin and glides on without tugging or skipping, but it is noticeably thin on the lips, which I find can be unforgiving if you have any dryness or flakiness on your lips. The wear is between three and five hours with lighter shades disappearing more quickly and deeper shades lasting a little longer and/or staining. They are slightly drying to just not drying (but none are hydrating). Overall, they are comfortable to wear, but a few shades tend to look patchy as they wear down on me. They are twist-up, jumbo-sized lip pencils, so they don’t require sharpening (no waste!). Keep in mind, twist-up jumbo pencils like this one often contain less product than a traditional lipstick (which usually contain 0.10 to 0.15 oz.).

Tease Me looks like a Panetone pastel pink, and it looks chalky (ugh). I think there’s a typo on Velvet Teen -it says this was “the least pigmented of the entire range”, but it looks pretty pigmented to me, just not that smooth.

Glad I snagged Clementine. Blood Orange and many of these bright oranges pull pink on me and have a Mercurochrome undertone, which doesn’t suit me. LOVE bright red oranges, but how many does one need? (unlike brown reds, need ’em all! No sh!#!). But I can’t help being overcome by the gorgeous En Taupe.
