MAC Surf Baby:  Nail Lacquers

MAC Surf Baby is right around the corner–the full collection hits stores on May 26th (PRO stores should put it out a week earlier) and should start popping up online as early as the 23rd. There are two Nail Lacquers ($13.50 for 0.4 fl. oz.) coming out: Hangin’ Loose (dirty pink nude) and Ocean Dip (mid-tone creamy aqua).

  • Hangin’ Loose is a pale, peachy nude with soft white shimmer. It looks more peach, less nude in natural light than it does in brighter light. I used three coats and was able to achieve opaque color, but two coats does get close to opaque. Formula flowed easily over the nail and applied well.
  • Ocean Dip is a creamy bluish teal. I used two coats to get opaque color coverage. Even after I rolled it a few times, the formula was on the watery side.

my thoughts on the formula: MAC polishes always wear a full week for me, with no chipping, and minor tip wear.  The formula isn’t as consistent as I’d like, though, as some shades are thin, some thick, and a couple of them are watery.  Though recently I’ve had some issues with splayed applicators, both were perfect in these two bottles.

Would you buy Ocean Dip if you weren’t a beauty blogger and you based your decision on a review like this saying the formula was slightly watery? It’s a beautiful color, but if it doesn’t work right then it might not be worth having. Thanks for the work you put into the in depth reviews you do, it’s very much so appriciated. 🙂

Those are SO beautiful! I’m wearing ‘Hangin’ Loose’ w/ a Black Shatter on my index atm 🙂 BTW, ‘HL’ looks very peachy in natural light. Nice.

ocean dip literally made me GASP! it is so freakin’ beautiful! but i refuse to buy MAC nailpolishes as i find them ridiculously overpriced for the amount in the bottle. i’ll def be looking for a dupe, though.

LOVE Surf Baby! Ocean Dip made me laugh because it’s the exact same shade that was popular for one of the first ‘color’ lines for kitchen appliances in the mid 60’s when you could pick something other than white! I still recall walking into way late to do over apartments in college that still had this shade of frig, sink, etc. I do like that Ocean Dip really is a different shade from others in this range. But every time I would look at it (least in the bottle) I will think of going to friends houses and apts that had this shade of kitchen appliances!!! And you all thought colored appliances started with Harvest Gold and Avocado Green I bet!

My late 50’s kitchen is a deeper seafoam green with the original fixtures and stove. Part of the reason we live here is the kitchen, and now that you’ve said this I may have to buy Ocean Dip!

I thought that I’d want Ocean Dip, but now I’m leaning towards Hangin’ Loose. I feel like I already have something in my collection that’s close to Ocean Dip. I don’t know, though. They’re both really nice. I guess I’ll have to check them out in person. Great swatches!

What do you think about Ocean Dip vs. Misa Dirty Sexy Money or ORLY Ancient Jade? It looks bluer on yours, but other swatches make it look very similar…

Thanks for your help anyway :). Those are all kind of a dusty/murky seafoam green color…hopefully this is brighter/bluer like your pictures because I do really like it 🙂

I really do not think that mac nail polishes are worth it. I bought one and it chipped after a few hours! And I did the same routine I normally do with my nails. I thought it was just that color so I bought two other ones to test and they did the same thing! Not worth the money!

Do you know if there is anywhere online where I can purchase the Ocean Dip? I am seriously in love with it and I want it really bad!
