MAC Superglass Collection: Review, Photos, & Swatches
Superglass is latest lipgloss creation by MAC. My review for these is still the same and reposted with minor edits below. They are a thick, sticky gloss loaded with both shimmer and flaky glitter particles. They’re not for those who prefer less rather than more when it comes to shimmer, glitter, or texture. I personally found it to be one of the thickest glosses I’ve ever worn–almost like the consistency of honey.
I like these, but I don’t love them–I like them a lot more on top of lipsticks for an extra kick of dazzling shimmer, but alone, they’re not as fun. The texture/formula on these is consistent through all nine shades, so must-haves seem more dependent on your personal tastes. My personal favorites, though, are Totally Bang! and Cherry Electric.

- Sheerest shades: Sweet Tart, Sugar Overload
Are you looking to double your dazzle or streamline your dazzle?
There are some shades of Superglass that are similar to Dazzleglass shades, but I’d say that these, on average, are more pigmented than Dazzleglasses, so the Superglass version is very much a Super–Dazzleglass version. Whether you’re a fiend for all things dazzling and therefore want to double your dazzle or if you’re looking to get shades different from your Dazzleglasses…
- Cherry Electric is like a pinker version of Love Alert.
- Totally Bang! is a pinker version of Ms. Fizz.
- Sugar Overload is comparable to Sugarrimmed.
- Fab Frenzy is a much more intense version of Date Night.
- Disco Overload is like a brighter, more orange version of Bare Necessity.
- You probably don’t need both Sweet Tart and Superflash–they’re so similar to each other–the latter being a smidgen brighter, but they look nearly the same on lips.
Superglass ($18.00 for 0.15 oz.)
- Fab Frenzy is is darkened berry-purple with flecks of iridescent fuchsia-purple flakes. It’s decently pigmented, and it does give plenty of color to lips on its own.
- Totally Bang! is is a vibrant fuchsia-pink with semi-opaque color coverage. It has iridescent purple flakes along with golden and amber shimmer. This is one of the most pigmented shades of Superglass.
- Cherry Electric is a softened pink with a little extra kick of red. It has iridescent purple flakes along with golden shimmer. The color coverage is semi-sheer with some color but not solid.
- Superflash! is a sheer baby pink with flashes of amber shimmer and flakes of grayish-purple. This one is definitely on the sheerer side.
- Sugar Overload is a milky pale pink-nude with gold and white shimmer and then larger grayish-silver flecks of glitter. Very milky looking, not really creamy, but it doesn’t settle into lips too much. It is, however, pretty sheer. It’s a bit like Boy Bait Cremesheen Glass, except with glitter overload. Ha, overload!
- Sweet Tart is a soft pink with only a slight milkiness to it. It has white and gold shimmer with large flecks of a grayish-purple and peach glitter. It’s a sheerer shade, but it gives more color than Sugar Overload. I feel like it just brings out some of the natural pink in my lips.
- Gift Wrap is a sheer, muted pinky-coral with flakes of silver-y purple and amber and white shimmer. It has some color, but it tends to just emphasize your natural lip color.
- Disco Blend is a peachy-beige with a smidgen of brown. The sparkles in it seem to include a gold shimmer, chunkier gray-silver particles, and some peach flecks. Not totally sheer, but it’s not opaque either — it does a decent job of giving my lips a different color, though.
- Tunnel of Love is a reddish brown with white and gold shimmer along with flecks of grayish-silver and peach glitter. I found this one had the most color pay off, but it has a tendency to look a little uneven on the lips. From further away, it’s not as noticeable, but I just couldn’t get it to look smooth and even. Bonus: it made my teeth look super white!
The formula is thick and sticky, but the glitter never felt gritty to me, even five hours later. I was pleasantly surprised that I didn’t feel much grittiness, but I think when these fade entirely, there may be a little texture to the glitter. Because it is pretty thick and sticky, the glosses lasted quite awhile on my lips. I slicked on Sweet Tart around 6 PM, and it was still lingering at 11 PM. It wasn’t quite as glossy as it was initially, but it still looked glossy and shimmery. The glitter seemed to stay in place, and none of it migrated to the outer edges of my lips, so all in all, it faded nicely. Oh, and did I mention I ate dinner with it on? Oh, yeah.
I do think the glitter is large and chunky, and it really does remind me of the flecks of glitter you’ll see in some nail polishes, but it’s not so severe once it’s on your lips, particularly at a normal viewing distance. You’ll see flat grayish particles, but they catch light, so this gloss looks best in light/in person, that way it can catch light as you move vs. a still photograph. It’s an interesting look, and I know some will love it, some will find it tacky. I like the concept better over lipstick than worn alone, partially because these are a bit sheer, but also because it makes the glitter pop a little more.

I know some of us (that includes me!) were concerned about just how much product was going to be in these tubes, but it looks like MAC may have considered what we’ve been complaining about–there is 0.15 oz. in Superglass, as compared to 0.06 oz. in Dazzleglass, 0.08 oz. in Cremesheen Glass, and 0.17 oz. in Lipglass. More expensive than Lipglass, but it’s a way better deal than Dazzleglass! The packaging is very much like Dazzleglass in terms of the type of materials, glossy look of the plastic, etc. but it is six-sided, so it won’t roll off your bathroom counter at least!
BOTTOM LINE: These are long-wearing, ultra glittery lipglosses with a thick (but not goopy!) feel and sticky texture. They seem to run from sheer to semi-sheer with some shades being more pigmented than others, but none are entirely opaque. They are vanilla scented, and I didn’t really notice any taste since wearing them. I think these are best over lipsticks, rather than alone, though some of the more intense shades could be worn alone.

Recommendation: If you don’t mind sticky gloss and love yourself some glitter, I’d say give these a shot. You might be surprised at how the glitter translates on your lips! If you don’t like the stickiness of Lipglass, I don’t think you’ll like the feel of Superglass at all. I also wouldn’t go into these expecting 100% opaque color pay off either!

Fab Frenzy and Tunnel of Love looks WICKED in the tube! Shame that the actual gloss doesn’t have the purple and blue / the dark and bronzed goodness.
I will def. be passing on these. The color payoff just isn’t great for us girls with pigmented lips. I really don’t even have to test them, I’m nearly 100% positive that they would all look like varying shades of clearish pink on my lips. Blah. I’ll stick to my Cremesheens instead.
I know what you mean … I have super pigmented lips, so these will just look like almost clear gloss with glitter … :/
I have pigmented lips too, but I plan on picking up a shade to wear over lipstick just because they look fun

I’ll definitely get some of these, probably Totally Bang!, Cherry Electric, Superflash! or Sweet Tart and Gift Wrap. They don’t look very pigmented to me at all, even the very dark shades are pretty sheer. But I do love Totally Bang! So pretty! 🙂
Which one do you like between Totally Bang and Cherry Electric? I’m NW15 and already have Love Alert dazzleglass if that helps.
I’d opt for Totally Bang, since I think it’s a bit different than Love Alert!
I tried on all of these in the Pro store a few weeks ago, and I couldn’t quite figure out why I wasn’t loving them. Then I realized that it’s the peach/green/silver flecks in most of the colors. They’re just…wrong. I bought Tunnel of Love anyway.
However, I went back and discovered that Fab Frenzy had much prettier fleck purple/silver, so I exchanged them. Glad I did. The flecks are fun, but in a way, these aren’t quite as “sparkly” as dazzleglasses.
I know these lip glosses don’t look that great, but imagine what you could do with them over lipsticks, so awesome! Thanks for the post.

I cannot choose just 1 Superglass, because they are all fabulous. But since I have to pick out my favorites of the collection, I would have to go with:
1)Totally Bang!: I love this one, because it is just this bright Fuschia Pink and I think it would go great over my Show Orchid lipstick.
2) Cherry Electirc: I would say this ties with Totally Bang! because it is just so pretty, and I would put it on top of any my lipsticks, especially my Viva Glam one for an extra dazzle and POP!
3) Sugar Overload: I feel that this one would go great on top of my neutral lipsticks. My favorite neutral lipsticks is Jubilee. It will give a hint of pink shiny-ness (sp? haha) to it and it would look great! I could even put it over Viva Glam GaGa and it would just make it stand out that much more!
never bought a MAC lipgloss of any sort and I definitely wouldn’t start with these. they photograph beautifully but I can’t stand the idea of so much glitter!

I don’t think you mentioned anything about this, but are these glosses hydrating? I know they are super sticky but did your lips feel soft after you removed them?
They felt the same as pre-gloss – so they weren’t drying, but they weren’t really moisturizing. You could say they lock in moisture, I suppose 🙂

You did a review on an AMAZING Chanel gloss a few days back (the name escapes me… Venus something?) that particular product stood out to me because of the sparkle. How do these compare, as far as color selection, texture and feel of the glitter flakes? Are they similar glosses?
I like Chanel’s better, personally, because it’s not nearly as thick/sticky (and I don’t even mind sticky!), and the shimmer is more uniform. I wouldn’t say they’re similar!
I love these, I’m so sad that I can’t afford to get all of them. Glittery lips are my favorite. I was at least able to get 2, Cherry Electric and Sweet Tart.

They look gorgeous in the tube! But like someone above said, those of us with pigmented lips would end up looking like we smeared clear gloss and random glitter on our lips.

Thank you for this review! I want to try this lip gloss, but I couldn’t decide which one to order. My MAC counter probably won’t have these in for a while and despite the glitter, most of these sound so similar to Dazzleglass shades I already have.
Tunnel of love looks amazing! I like it because it looks versatile and could be worn over allot of different lipsticks.
Totally Bang! is the best one of the Superglass collection! It’s the most evenly pigmented and one of the few that IS pigmented and not sheer, which I love because my lips are already so pigmented themselves.
I would have to say my favorite is Totally Bang! Fuchsia is my new favorite for lip colors for summer. I have been wearing all bright fuchsias instead of your classic read. I love it! : )
I prefer softer colors, so the sweet tart and sugar overload for me!

Sweet Tarte and totally bang! Mostly because sweet tarte is sheer but still has a hint of pink in it(: Totally bang! Because it’s a fierce hot pink which is a color i dont have(:
Sweet Tart is my fave as it appears to be very versatile in its sheerness it can enhance almost any shade beneath it.

I really like Totally Bang because it is one of the more pigmented shades and I really love the color. Pinks are my color and with Summer coming I think this is a great bright summery color to wear.
I like Tunnel of Love! Why? Because it’s unlike any other gloss I own and it stands out!

Such a pretty shade. Pink + glitter? LOVE it. I’m a sucker for pink lipsticks/lipglosses.
The glasses actually have snowflake shape helicone pearls. They also add long term moisturization and immediate shine.
My favorite is Cherry Electric. I think it will look nice over a lot of lipstick colors, it seems decently pigmented on its own, and has a really cool name.

I wasn’t sure if I was going to like these but now I fell in love with Totally Bang and Cherry Electric. I think the others would look better with l/s on my pigmented lips but I sure want to try them all.
colour wise I love Tunnel of love best – unusual colour, and I love it when the colour looks SCARY in the tube (I adore oversexed for that too).

Tunnel of Love is by far my favorite because its a very versatile and can be wore with many different shades of lipstick and im excited to do a smoky eye with this lip gloss, like a Jenny Humphrey from gossip girl inspired look.
These are gorgeous. I wish they would make them with shimmer rather than glitter so they were more wearable for work…But I guess that’s just lipglass. I’m a sucker for packaging though – if they changed the lipglass packaging to this, I’d be buying SO MUCH MORE.
I love the look of Disco Blend: the peachy sparkles can look great alone or with another lipstick!
I went and checked these out yesterday even though I didn’t expect to like them. Boy was I wrong! I ended up with Fab Frenzy, Gift Wrap, and Cherry Electric. Fab Frenzy looks AWESOME over Sephora’s stain and Gift Wrap is gorgeous over MAC’s Purposefully Red lipstain marker and also Josie Maran’s Jive stain. I can’t wait to try Cherry Electric or Fab Frenzy over a hot pink MAC stain I have from collection.
As pretty as they are on their own, they are simply gorgeous layered. I am so happy I got them!
(though be careful when kissing on your hubby/boyfriend while wearing it if they have a beard…I was finding glitter in dh’s beard all night LOL)

I purchased Sweet Tart yesterday based on Christine’s initial review. I loved how she paired it with Show Orchid! The light pink color goes great with peaches, light corals, nudes, pinks, and bright shades like Impassioned, Girl About Town, Show Orchid (of course), and Pink Nouveau. I was afraid the glitter was going to be uneven but after wearing it all day with Rouge Coco in La Pausa, my apprehension was unfounded. The formula lasted a long time and the glitter left a few speckles on my lips but it was nothing glaringly obvious. Superglass is thick but if you are used to the traditional lipglass formula and love glitter, you are going to like this. Moreover, I do not see myself wearing this gloss on its own. I think the glitter would look too stark against the lips due to the transparency of the formula. Wearing lipstick underneath makes the glitter just pop!
Fab Frenzy is gorgeous…haven’t seen anything like that before.

Its funny how before this review came out I hopped on the site to get one of these babies and totally bang and cherry electric were the two I was stuck between. I’m so glad those were the two you liked best. I went ahead and went for cherry electric. I still love dazzleglass more, but it just is never enough in the tube. I go through them so fast.

Christine: Update – I tried these over stained lips instead of lipstick or liner and they worked much better – Kept a lot of the glitter and just looked more “clean.” I didn’t pick up any of the markers from Art Supplies so I can’t test that one out. But if you feel like playing around, check these out with a stained lip instead. (I’m just excited to get a little more glitter payoff out of these so I wanted to share) 🙂
Good to hear! 🙂 I didn’t have the glitter-migration problem you did (watched your video just before you wrote the comment, actually!)… though removing the gloss does seem to leave glitter elsewhere.
haha yes the glitter was all over the place by the end of those lip swatches 🙂 it’s mostly from removing the product – that’s when the glitter got really messy. otherwise i found it stayed put… i just didn’t like the way the bigger chunks of glitter got lost in the lipstick once the gloss blended with the lipstick (or liner). that’s why i had better luck with a stain – nothing for the gloss to mix with means nothing for the glitter to get lost in.
and btw – i found out the official word from mac on these products is that you’re not supposed to rub your lips together once you’ve applied the superglass. if you rub your lips together the effect goes away. WHO DOESN’T RUB THEIR LIPS TOGETHER EVER?! lol

sugar overload…seems like it would work with many of the lipsticks/glosses i own
I love Sugar Overload because I could wear it any time and it would match with anything, or give my no-makeup days just that little extra special oomph!

My favorite would be “Cherry Electric.” I must admit, in the past I always tended to gravitate towards nude-ish colors with a subtle shade of pink. In this case, that would be “Sweet Tart.” But, I think its time to step out of my “safe zone.” Make-up is an expression of one’s self and a form of art in itself. Sometimes, you gotta take risks and go for the one that’s more daring 🙂

I just got my cherry electric gloss today and I LOVE it! It actually gives my lips good color and thats hard for me to find with my NC20 skin. Looks AMAZING layered. I bought bronzilla lipstick and it looked terrible on me, but I put the gloss over it and now its looks great! I’m so tempted to get another!
I love TOTALLY BANG! The bright pinks really complement my skin tone :)And I love glosses that are not too opaque so I think this is perfect. I love all the shimmer and glitter. Also I think FAB FRENZY is a very unique colour.

totally bang. a flattering color gloss. i am nw20 and an olderlady but the gloss glitter is a bit much for me. wish they had made it with finer and less coarse glitter. love the gift wrap color but did not buy it yet.

Sugar Overload
I bought Tunnel of Love awhile ago, and I cannot seem to pull it off at all! I’m very fair and cool-toned and I should have just gone for one of the pretty pinks (IDK what I was thinking, LOL). How do I make it wearable for me?
I went to a CCO for the first time today (It’s amazing!) and actually saw the superglasses there. They had Gift Wrap, Disco Blend, and Super Flash in stock there. I ended up picking up Super-Flash!, I’m a total sparkle girl and it’s so PRETTY!
