MAC Sassy Coral Lipglass Set Review, Photos, Swatches
Lipglasses: Hearts-a-Beatin’, Jest for Fun, Mimmy, Pretty Quick!, Tad Saucy
MAC Tartan Tale Chapter 2: Sassy Coral Lipglass Set
This year, MAC has released three different miniature lipglass sets. Each set contains five different shades of lipglass, each containing 0.08 oz. of product. Like the other sets from Chapter 2, they are housed in a metal tin that features the tartan pattern on the outside. They also have a plastic insert to keep the glosses standing up evenly within the tin, but it can be easily removed for more storage. Each set retails for $29.50.
Lipglasses are sheer to opaque in color, but they have a tackier, stickier texture. They are supposed to be vanilla-scented, but I did find a couple throughout the sets that smelled like plastic. These have the same sponge-tipped applicators that full-sized lipglasses have, but it seems less spongy and less gloss is pulled through on each pass (not necessarily a bad thing there!). Wear time seems to be three to four hours on average, but some shades pull a little longer while others are shorter.
This set includes: Hearts-a-Beatin’ (pale raisin), Jest for Fun (peachy blossom pink), Mimmy (bright pink coral), Pretty Quick! (bright coral), and Tad Saucy (pale muted pink).
- Hearts-a-Beatin’ is a medium-dark coral with bronzy brown pull and orange-gold and white shimmer. It’s like Tranceplant and Ornamental had a baby.
- Jest for Fun is an opaque, milky pink beige with just the tiniest leaning of coral. It has ultra fine white shimmer, but the milkiness definitely takes over here. It’s not quite as pale as Underage, but it’s similar. Ample Pink (Plushglass) looks rather similar when worn.
- Mimmy is a sheer, pale jelly pink with fuchsia and gold flecks of shimmer strewn through the gloss base. This originally launched with MAC’s Hello Kitty Collection.
- Pretty Quick! is an opaque, creamy light coral with white micro-shimmer. It resembles Strange Potion (from Venomous Villains) a bit, actually, when worn.
- Tad Saucy is a clear gloss base with a heavy dose of white and pink shimmer. It looks rather frosty on lips, so it may be better as a layering gloss than alone. It seems similar to Bountiful (Plushglass).
A normal lipglass contains 0.17 oz. of product and retails for $14.50. In this set, you’ll receive 0.40 oz. worth of lipglass for $29.50. This works out to be $85.29/oz. for an individual [full-sized] lipglass and $73.75/oz. for the lipglass set. It’s also worth pointing out that for the price of two full-sized shades, you’ll have five shades to choose from. If you’re someone who doesn’t stick with one gloss long enough to finish, the sets will be more worthwhile for you.

RECOMMENDATION: I like how the set ranges from light to dark, and it’s not just straight-up coral (though it also seems to miss having a truly outrageous coral shade) but variations on coral. I feel like I have seen a few of these shades before, but if corals are up your alley, they’re worth a peek.

I love the first one but not so much the others, is it a permanent shade or not?
Thank you for the swatches!
All of them are limited edition, as indicated in the Post FAQ! 🙂
LOVE Pretty Quick!
Hearts-a-Beatin and Tad Saucy are gorgeous! But I already have Mimmy from Hello Kitty and the other 2 shades do nothing for me, AND i have a collection of about 12 MAC glosses already so… will have to skip.
These are ok. I was expecting more. Only one I really like is mimmy and I already have the tube from the Hello Kitty collection. I also don’t like how its straight lipglass and no lustreglasses like they usually do
The first one if my favorite ♥ what a pretty color!
Thanks for the wonderful reviews christine! Do you happen to have any news on when these will be available online?
Nope, no news…
I like these more than I thought! I had seen some pictures and was really disappointed that there were no bright corals but they are pretty. I am almost out of my Mimmy from HK and it’s my staple gloss for just adding slight shimmer and shine to my lipsticks, so I might want to pick up this set. Hearts-a-Beatin’ is WAY better on lips than in tube!
I love corals, but none of these look too original. Plus, I already have Mimmy. Love the tins, though. I know my MAC counter won’t have these until the 11th. Not really sure why they decided to divide the collection into two parts. It’s a little annoying because the pigment sets are what I was most looking forward to. Thanks for the review!
Thanks for the review. Tis strange for MAC to call it Sassy Corals but have mostly pinks, yes? It would have made more sense to include Blessdly Rich in this set instead of the mineralize kit. I picked up the mineralize kit yesterday @MAC and I must say Blessedly Rich is a gorgeous coral color. I hope they make that permanent.
I’m not loving this as much as I thought I would. I loved So Bad and Strange Potion but those shades just don’t do it for me. Mimmy looks much better swatched – on your lips it’s almost non-existent.
Jest For Fun <3
ooh i really want to save my money for cham-pale but all these sets are so pretty. Tad Saucy reminds me of resort life. Oh my aching wallet….sigh
Sorry, I don’t like any of these. Thank you so much Christine for your swatches and pics! You just saved my wallet!
The price calculations you did were extremely helpful. Thanks for taking the time to do that. It really puts things in perspective.
Wow they look sooo pretty! I’ve had a couple of Mac lipsticks and I can handle their scent. Would you guys know how the Mac lipglass smells/ tastes like?
They’re supposed to smell like vanilla — but I did have a couple (across the sets – like 2 or 3 out of the 15) that smelled plastic-y.
I especially love pretty quick and mimmy! Just lovely neutral colors but not too transparant!
awe no, they are so sheer!
i would buy this if they looked like the colour of the tube..
I can tell right away that these would like like dog crap on me, but they are pretty. Heart’s a beatin’ (or whatever it’s called) looks REALLY good on you… It warms you up and it makes your eyes just glow!
HEY CHRISTINE!! Can i ask i’m a NW 25 and i was thinking of getting this set, and i tend to wear nudes a lot
(myth, creme d nude, pet me please, and things like that) would this kit be good since i’ve really wanted some corals for fall but will they look good with nude under them??
PS THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU DO! i’m constantly checking and i appreciate all the hard work you put into your blog! <3
I think they would! 🙂
Thank you!
I love Mimmy but I’m not in love with the other shades. I’m running out of my Mimmy from the HK collection. I wish that it was a permanent shade.
