MAC Rain of Flowers Nail Lacquer Swatches, Photos, Reviews

MAC Rain of Flowers Nail Lacquer ($15.00 for 0.34 oz.) is described as a “blackened violet with violet pearlized pigments” with a frost finish. It is a repromote, but it has been a year since it originally launched (and it was limited edition then, too).

It’s a rich, deep dark violet purple with flecks of violet and ruby shimmer — very lovely and has lots of depth. I loved this shade when it first came out, but I had some application issues with the formula from this launch. Before, it was opaque in two coats, and it flowed well, but this time I had rather streaky and slightly patchy results in two coats so I had to do a third to give it a better end result. It seems like it would be rather opaque in two coats if it weren’t for the rather uneven appearance overall. The formula is on the thinner side but doesn’t seem sheer. I generally have good luck with MAC polishes (I haven’t had a bad experience with wear that I can remember) – they wear a solid week on me with minor tip wear but no chipping.

I wish it had more dupes, but China Glaze First Class Ticket was the best bet, but it’s not as dark.

I thought it looked really similar too, but then I read the part about “ruby shimmer” so that threw me off. But the pics make it look almost identical!

Yep, and I think there was some new regulation that came out that said companies had to go to two decimal places for quantity – because I swear, these used to be 0.4 fl. oz. and now they’re 0.34 fl. oz. (and how one rounds up from that is anyone’s guess).

One of my favorite polishes of all time, which is strange for me as I usually hate dark nail colors on me. I wish the first coat was less streaky as the base color the most GORGEOUS deep grape, but it needs a few coats to look good. Still gorgeous, but not as great as it could be.

i have this from the first time it launched, and i must say i wanted more from it. the glitter hardly shows up at all, but the wear time is great. it really just looks like another dark grape color on the nail tho. kind of dissappointing.

Just realized I commented on your 2010 post, but I purchased this polish yesterday and am having the same issues. The glitter for some reason isn’t applying on the nail. It seems like the glitter is sticking to the brush and the walls of the bottle instead of applying to my nail. Severly dissappointed and may have to return it.

Can hardly see the ruby in that at all. So similar to Illamasqua’s Phallic otherwise, that it’s definitely not worth it to me. Plus, the Illamasqua formula is to die for. Oh well, another MAC polish to skip.
