MAC Immortal Gold Nail Lacquer ($15.00 for 0.34 oz.) is described as a “pale gold” with a frost finish. Honestly, nothing about this screams “pale gold!” This is more like liquid, molten gold. It’s full-on gold to me with a rather metallic finish. It’s a yellowed gold with a burnt antique gold base color. It has depth, because it’s not all yellowy, but the formula was less impressive. I couldn’t think of a dupe for this shade, except China Glaze Tarnished Gold, which is a crackle polish, so it’s not much of a dupe at all. Would love to hear from you if you have a dupe! 🙂
The formula is thick, almost goopy, so it’s easy to get far too much polish on the nail than is appropriate for one coat. I only needed two coats for opaque color, which was great, but the thickness of the coats acted to emphasize the brush strokes in the finish. I really tried to even them out, but this shade also has a rather quick drying time (reminded me of how glitters dry so quickly). When you get it just right, it’s great (my ring finger looked the best, while my middle finger looked terrible). I generally have good luck with MAC polishes (I haven’t had a bad experience with wear that I can remember) – they wear a solid week on me with minor tip wear but no chipping.

I like it and don’t like it at the same time, I’m completely undecided on this one haha!
Hah, I’m in the same boat. I couldn’t even choose between the Love It and Leave It buttons. xD
Awhile back, I was on a gold craze. I checked my stash and actually OPI’s Bling Dynasty is pretty close. NARS Desperado is in the same family, but this MAC one is a tad more yellow. BTW, the OPI one came from the Hong Kong collection, and that collection was known for an amazing formula upgrade. So, if you like this shade, but are iffy on purchasing the MAC one because of the so-so review, I urge you to look into the OPI one before you buy. Of course there’s the computer color differences, so my comparisons could be off. Hope this helps regardless.
Wow thanks!
Yes, I agree. As soon as I saw the bottle, I thought of OPI’s Bling Dynasty. It’s not a 100% perfect dupe, but I’d say over 95%.
The MAC one is a touch yellower and ever so slightly lighter . The slightly darker lighting in the last picture makes it look the most like Bling Dynasty, just for an idea of how close the colours are.
I was also going to say Bling Dynasty, only BD is less green-tinged.
I just checked out some swatches online and to me BD looks a lot more orange
I like this, in theory and on other people… on me it would just look like a horrid coating of human waste.
It reminds me of Wet ‘n Wild’s Goldmine, but this is definitely more yellow. I think it would look good on really deep, warm skin tones, but on my pale fingers it would be crap.
This is pretty, but for the price I’ll stick with Gold Verneer.
I think I’m going to get this one, too!
The color itself is so pretty…but as a nail lacquer…I just don’t like it. It’s too yellow. I’d love this shade as an eyeshadow or a glitter eyeliner though.
The color is great. I noticed the brush strokes on some of your nails. Maybe it’s due to the thick polish.
does anyone know how this shade compares to the gold polish that was released with antiquitease?
I have “Wallis” by Butter London. It’s a little darker (more of a blackish gold), but I love it! It applies great, pigment is great and wears great! About the same price too.
I LOVE the color, but the streaks make it a no-go. Sad.
It reminds me of Chanel Peridot but without the blue/green duochrome
this is very much non-pretty. Not at all what I thought it would be. I wonder if they were going for Peridot dupe.
A really beautiful color!
really unique and glamorous shade, i would put up with the bad formula.
Zoya Goldie is molten yellow gold too but lacks the tarnished effect. Close though.
Oh. In some lights, it looks like baby poop yellow. That’s not very flattering 🙁
I really like this color. I have it on the tip of my thumb nail right now and the color just really seems to pop for me. I’ll have to go pick it up on the weekend, I think. Thanks to all the people who suggested dupes to look at too! 🙂
The color is beautiful but the difference between the ring finger nail and middle finger nail is apparent!
looks like a dupe for the new Chanel polish for fall 11, Peridot.
Not at all, given that Peridot has a duochrome to it, and this doesn’t have one at all.
I just bought this color today and think it looks wonderful with my warm medium tone skin. I don’t think all skin tones could pull it off, but for me I love it!!
It’s ok, I’m not a fan of the green tinge, though
Pale gold?! Someone in marketing is getting paid waayyy too much money to look out the window while they type away and think about anything other than the product on their desk…
