MAC Pure Flash! Electric Cool Eyeshadow
Here are the other four shades of MAC Electric Cool Eyeshadow ($21.00 for 0.07 oz.) launching with the A Novel Romance collection (August 14th online, August 21st in-stores). To recap, these have a sponge-like texture with some spring, so they are a cream eyeshadow but dry down and set to more of a powder finish. If you’ve tried Chanel’s Illusion d’Ombres or Buxom Stay There Eyeshadows, these are similar in regards to texture. The performance of these really ranges from shade to shade, and the major weakness is really in the application/texture as some shades sheer out easily or apply unevenly (usually the darker shades). They don’t crease easily, and only the very sparkly shades have a bit of fall out.
MAC Pure Flash! Electric Cool Eyeshadow ($21.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “pale champagne.” It’s a light, peachy-beige with warm undertones and a frosted finish. It had mostly opaque color in one layer, and it applied evenly for the most part on the lid. It doesn’t crease, and I only noticed slight fading after nine hours of wear. Marc Jacobs Beauty Honey Bunny (400) (P, $28.00) is cooler-toned. Divergent Humble Sheen (LE) is a powder. Tom Ford Beauty Orchid Haze #1 (P) is darker, powder. NARS Jezebel (P) is a powder. Too Faced Cheers! (LE, $16.00) is a powder. Kat Von D Precious (LE) is a powder. Disney by Sephora Splendid (LE) is a powder. MAC Naked Lunch (P, $15.00) is slightly pinker, powder. MAC Superwatt Electric Cool Eyeshadow ($21.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “light shimmering taupe.” It’s a medium-dark, warm-taoned taupe brown with a hint of gray and frosted, metallic finish. It was mostly opaque with one layer of product, which could be sheered out for more of a wash if desired. The color wore well for eight and a half hours before starting to fade. Marc Jacobs Beauty Au Revoir (406) (P, $28.00) is slightly darker. YSL Saharienne #4 (P) is darker, powder. NARS Himalia (P, $29.00) is powder. Giorgio Armani #09 (P, $32.00) is darker, powder. Clarins Forest #4 (LE) is less shimmery, darker, powder. Too Faced Crisp Apple Strudel (LE, $16.00) is warmer. Urban Decay Shakedown (LE, $18.00) is darker, warmer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
MAC Blacklit Electric Cool Eyeshadow ($21.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “black with multidimensional pearl.” It’s a soft, medium black with multi-colored sparkle–the teal sparkle seems to dominate. It had semi-opaque color coverage that applied evenly for the most part. It was buildable with two to three layers. The color lasted for eight hours with minor fall out. MAC Tonight’s Temptation #2 (LE, $21.00) is darker, powder. CoverGirl Molten Black (300) (P, $4.99) is cooler-toned, powder.. Sephora Collection Jungle Party (09) (P, $13.00) is greener. Sephora Collection Animal Instinct (01) (P, $13.00) is less multi-colored in its shimmer. Urban Decay Oil Slick (P, $18.00) MAC Cinderfella (P, $21.00) is a powder. Buxom Black Lab (P, $18.00) is very similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
MAC Switch to Blue Electric Cool Eyeshadow ($21.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “rich cobalt.” It’s a muted, medium-dark blue with a pearly sheen. It seemed to have good color payoff, but it had a tendency to sheer out and apply unevenly on the lid. The color wore well for eight hours before starting to fade slightly. Make Up For Ever I-22 (P, $21.00) is brighter. Dior Atlantique #4 (LE) is lighter, powder. Sleek MakeUP Acid #5 (P, $9.99) is powder, more shimmery. MAC A Sprinkle of Blues #3 (P, $21.00) is darker, powder. MAC Tonight’s Temptation #1 (LE, $21.00) is darker, brighter, powder. Urban Decay Radium (P, $18.00) is lighter, powder. Maybelline Electric Blue (P, $6.99) is darker. Buxom Bulldog (P, $18.00) is very similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
As a reminder, these are from MAC’s upcoming A Novel Romance collection, which will launch online on August 14th and be in-stores on August 21st.

I am instantly drawn to Superwatt and Pure flash! And they look incredibly beautiful on you Christine! Your rating on these is better than the Nars one.. so these are obviously ranked higher on the wishlist! 🙂
Thank you! 🙂
An interesting concept though I don’t think I’ll splurge on it! Great varieties of colours though!
I wish they had brought back the fuchsia though!
I like Superwatt!
Yay!
Superwatt is perfection!! I wonder how it would hold up as a highlight. The color is really pretty and would work so well with many skin tones
It might work as one!
wow i love the neutral colors! they seem like they’d be easy apply too
Some of them are easier than others!
Pure Flash looks like the perfect brightening color for the lid or inner corners, and I was thinking to get it — but once I saw that you listed Naked Lunch as a similar shadow, I’ll have to pass since I own Naked Lunch and really like it! Thanks Christine! 🙂
My pleasure, Carolyn!
I think I own Pure Flash! from the original release. I really like the shade, but I did notice that this formula dried out and got a bit crumbly after a year or so. The nicer shades are worth the buy, but I do recommend getting something you’re going to use regularly so it doesn’t got to waste.
I did check mine, and they’re fine, but obviously I don’t use them on a regular basis, so they’ve just been locked up tight!
I live in in area that goes through some pretty wild temperature changes (muggy, 90F summers to winters that can hit the single digits with negative wind chill), so that might have been a big part of it. It’s actually still wearable and not at particularly stiff, just that I have to be careful opening and closing it because it dislodged from the base.
It’s weird, because some will be problematic and others won’t be – but it doesn’t seem to be the same shades! I’ve had it happen with all the different formulas/brands in this type of texture, though.
What has happend to pure flash and blacklit in the pan? They look totally smushed. Do they break apart as well? Don’t realy want to buy something (online), and end up with something that looks so fragile.
They’re a cream product, so they won’t break – they are a sponge-like consistency. It’s 100+ degrees in these parts, so my guess is that they tend to contract/expand with the temperature fluctuations while shipped.
I’m definitely intrigued by the formula. But I’m a bit disappointed by the swatches. I expected more intensity I guess.
I totally get what you mean, particularly in regards to Blacklit/Switch to Blue.
Pure flash kinda reminds me of Kitten!
Pure Flash! and Superwatt are very pretty, and have a nice shimmer/glitter. It is such a pity Blacklit and Switch to Blue are so pale when a bit sheered out. Switch to Blue is so light compared to what it looks like in the pan.
For me these are not a win… I find myself thinking, if the texture is similar to the Chanel Illusion D’Ombre I would much rather just use the Chanel… They have done a much better job with the finish and colors in their line IMHO. Mirifique VS Blacklit, enough said…
I love the way Switch to Blue looks in the pot! I wish it translated to equal vibrancy in the swatch 🙁
#blueeyeshadowloverproblems 😛
How does super watt compare to Nars Corfu? They look similar!
I don’t think I have that!
