MAC Pure Bred Mineralize Eyeshadow Quad Review, Photos, Swatches

MAC Pure Bred Mineralize Eyeshadow Quad
MAC Pure Bred Mineralize Eyeshadow Quad

MAC Pure Bred Mineralize Eyeshadow Quad ($46.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a set of warmer neutral shades with a more frosted finish overall. It’s a good palette, though everything is dupable, so you may find you have colors like it. I think you’ll want to add-in your go-to brow bone highlighter, as using the lightest shade in this was pretty stark due to the high-shine finish of it! The Mineralize Eyeshadow formula is supposed to have “low to medium coverage” when applied dry and “more intense coverage and colour” when used wet. The texture of these felt a lot smoother than the majority of MAC’s Mineralize Eyeshadow range–they had a really silky, finely-milled consistency that adhered well to the skin and blended out nicely.

Pure Bred #1 is a a cool-toned beige with a frosted, metallic sheen. It had semi-opaque or better pigmentation both wet and dry, though it was fully opaque and a little more metallic when applied damp. The texture was very soft, smooth, and finely-milled. This shade wore for eight hours on me. MAC Mother's Milk (LE, $17.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Urban Decay Bones (LE, $19.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Pure Bred #2 is a muted, peachy-brown with a sparkling, frosted finish. It had semi-sheer color payoff applied dry and full intensity when applied with a damp brush. An overall A- with the lowest grade a B?? Wow – I did not expect that! I just assumed it would perform like most of the other mineralize quads. Great news – maybe MAC is changing their formula. The eye look is beautiful, Christine.

Hi Christine,
As a long time reader of your blog, I just wanted to give you some insight regarding a viewer’s standpoint on the new layout. I’ve seen you go through many and each are beautiful. I think the latest one, which I’m sure you’re still working out, is a bit confusing and hard to search for things. For example, I can’t find the temptalia’s editor’s award category or reader’s pick. I hope this tidbit helps you organize the page better. In general, the search feature is lacking and the categories available to choose from a bit too general.

Keep up the great reviews. You have been and continue to be my source for beauty reviews!

Christine Avatar

They’re in the sidebar – the same place as they were in the last layout! You will find it on major pages, but not on review posts as we use the sidebar to showcase the dupes for the review products, but right on the homepage, all those links are still in the sidebar! Hope that helps!

We use Google’s search, so that is about as good as we can do right now, and it is the same search that we had previously! I’m really sorry we can’t do better! The categories we use are the exact same categories we have had previously – nothing was minimized or changed. Just as before, we only have so much room on your screen, so a condensed list of top categories are shown through the navigation (Blog > Reviews), but there is a “VIEW MORE” button that allows access to the full list (same as before – we also used a view all/view more link to see a full list of categories!). Here is the full list for blog reviews: http://www.temptalia.com/reviews. On mobile, the menu is more condensed, but if you go to Blog > Reviews, it automatically takes you to the full page of all the review-related categories instead of showing just top categories.

Thanks for your feedback! I wish I could help you more. I’m so sorry we haven’t done right for you!

Also! I’m not sure what search term you’re using, but when I just typed in “editor’s choice awards” in our search, the awards came up no problem! I tried other things like “mac russian red” or “mac eyeshadow” and the results very relevant, but I’m not sure what you were searching for. The search is the same as what you’d get through google.com, except results are limited to temptalia.com. Could you let me know? I can’t troubleshoot without a little more to go off of, though I am honestly not sure what we can do re: changing Google’s search engine for our site but we’ll certainly see if there’s anything we can modify.

thank you for your response. earlier, it wouldn’t pop up anything when i tried to do “editor’s choice” search; i tried multiple times this morning. i don’t know if the search was down. when i try it now, it appears with all the links/choices as you mentioned.

since the two layouts you’ve had, i’ve just done a quick google search to link to your page for what i need and that has worked well. i never directly searched on the temptalia website as it seemed quicker to do it by direct google search. but if you mention you are driven by google search, i’ll definitely give the page search a go.

i didn’t see the expand option for the side bar, thank you for drawing my attention to that. also, i don’t know if this affects my view or not but i use a little small macbook so perhaps my view of the options bar or website is limited due to the screen size. if this is the case, my apologies!

on another note, have you done anyway with the foundation suggestions? i know you have revised the foundation matrix but i think you use to have a page where you could input your mac color and then select other makeup brands and foundation types for color suggestions. I don’t know if i explained this well. anyway, if you still have it and it’s my fault again that i can’t find it. i’m sorry!! i just thought these were really helpful for me as a reader so i’m just trying to locate the things i use the most on your site.

i think you’ve done more than enough for the readers. i know you spend a lot of your time and effort on this page to make it a great site for beauty lovers. thank you again for all your hard work, it is much appreciated! 🙂

If you have a very small screen, the sidebar will float below the content – there is only so much real estate so on smaller devices, you won’t find a sidebar, only the content pane. We have it so sidebar will float under content, and within blog posts, it goes before comments but after the blog post. On say a Samsung tablet size, there is still a sidebar, but it is just skinny (I think around 200px or so). The sitewide search box is (and was) driven by Google – if it is ever down, then it is going to be a Google thing as the whole page is powered by Google (unless all of Temptalia is down, then it’s our fault). If you are on the product database search, then it is just searching all the shades/formulas that we have in the database, so it isn’t searching all blog posts or anything like that – it functions such that you type in “MAC Eyeshadow” and you’ll see it in the drop down options and it’ll take you to the MAC Eyeshadow page specifically. The sitewide search looks at every single thing ever published on Temptalia, from blog posts to the product database – more of the kitchen sink approach. It should be as good as native Google search (if you went to google.com), though possibly a little better since it is forcing search specifically to the site.

The Foundation Matrix is still there – you can access it from the navigation or in the footer of every page on the site. If you want to input your existing shade, you just select “use my existing shade” – we always had two options: existing shade vs. start from scratch (for those who don’t have a good match). If you already have a shade that matches you, you select existing shade and then follow the steps (which are enter brand, select a formula, select the shade, and finally “get matches”). You can then refine your results based on specific criteria (type, coverage, brand, etc.) if desired!

I love the new layout – everything is easy to find & pictures etc seem so much clearer 🙂 Only thing that i would love for you to do is at the end of every eyeshadow palette swatch review is to add a picture of all the shades swatched together to get a good feel of how the shades look together. This is of course purely a suggestion 🙂

I also have difficulty to navigate or find a basic information like whether product is permanent or limited, often don’t see any comments and then realize that review is not shown in full. Often when open from bloglovin or on my ipad. There is full review button, which I missed.
Big advertising banners breaking the swatches …I would probably place them either before or after. Otherwise, I see that many problems have been already fixed. Also thank you for adding more lux dupes – Chanel Seduction and Gucci Autumn Fire can perfectly replace the palette.

Nicole Avatar

I’m glad Mac did a good job on this. It looks nice. But, my issue is that I would need to add some matte for my taste. I love the cranberry color. I agree, overall it is dupable though. If it were permanent, I would likely buy it eventually. But, there are too many other things out there I want more. So, i’ll probably pass unless it happens to stick around.

Kat Avatar

Beautiful shades! But for palettes and quads I prefer mostly matte shades with a few shimmery accents. I’d definitely have to pull in other shades from my collection to make a look with this, so I think it’s a pass.

Katherine T. Avatar

Wow, I’m SO happy MAC shadow kit finally got an A- rating!! The colors are warmer, but pretty and wearable. But I just bought the Chanel D’Automne quad, and I think 2 of the shades are in the same color family. For $ 46, I really wish they had paw prints (or that hysterical promo pic) on the packaging, then I would probably have caved.

Nancy T Avatar

I still want it, but I would have absolutely LOVED it more with paw-prints! Also cool if they put that promo pic on the box it comes in, because I would so save it!

Katherine T. Avatar

Right? I feel like taking paw-print stickers and sticking it all over the kit! It’s like MAC totally forgot about the design, so we have to DIY . And having that promo pic on would’ve been even better!

Katherine T. Avatar

LOL! I’m going 46, and have a lot of Hello Kitty stickers and some Hello Kitty makeup, guess we are just young at heart 🙂

Nancy T Avatar

When I saw uour eye look, yesterday I think, I just knew this quad would review quite well! Everything looked very well blended, and yet one could still tell that these were distinct shades, but with no over-blended muddiness. Yeah, I think I may just have to snag this one!

RJ Avatar

Hi Christine,
I love this quad. I’ve always wanted to try a mineralize eyeshadow quad.
Can you please tell me if the Pure Bred #3 shade is similar to MAC cranberry?

Kisses,
RJ

Deidre Avatar

The colors are beautiful and my kind of colors but I am loving my Charlotte Tilbury palette’s right now. I don’t feel the need to buy any palette’s even limited edition ones. I am not being a good makeup junkie right now, as I should be all over this lol

Jane Avatar

Both palettes are basically complete dupes for previous Chanel Seduction or Eclosion and Chanel Mystery palettes, just in a more sparkling finish. The European Chanel quads even look similar. I think entire line copying Chanel because there are also one complete dupe for Regard Perle palette and other former Chanel palettes in their mineral quads.
