MAC Pro Longwear Fluidlines Reviews, Photos, Swatches (Part 1)

MAC Pro Longwear Fluidline ($16.00 for 0.10 oz.) is set to add sixteen shades to the existing range of Fluidlines. It seems like this is similar to when MAC redid the Paint Pot range by adding “Pro Longwear” to the name and determined a new set of permanent shades to be available (primarily pulling from long-time favorites and past limited edition releases). I couldn’t really determine too many differences between these and my experience with the regular Fluidline formula; at most, some of these seemed to have more slip and a longer dry-down time (though not long). Once dry, they lasted until I took them off (ten hours) regardless of whether I used them as an eyeliner or as a cream eyeshadow, though they are designed as a gel eyeliner (I just happened to try a few on Wednesday as eyeshadows to pair with Bouffant eyeshadow from the collection!).

Blacktrack is described as a “solid flat black.” It’s a deep black with a matte finish. It dries to a really flat, matte finish in about thirty seconds and stayed put for ten hours as an eyeliner. It had mostly opaque coverage but is best applied in short strokes for maximum coverage. Get comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

Blitz & Glitz is described as a “intense black with gold pearl.” It’s a deepened black with warm undertones and fine gold shimmer. It had opaque coverage in a single stroke when I tested it on my lower lash line (I used MAC’s 263 to apply). This shade wore well for a full ten hours. Get comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

Blue Peep is described as a “turquoise blue.” It’s a brightened, muted, medium blue with almost “warm” undertones–there’s a teal vibe, but it is bluer than green. It had an ultra matte finish. The liner went only with mostly opaque coverage in one pass and lasted for the full ten hours I wore it for. Get comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

Brassy is described as a “brassy gold.” It’s a brightened, golden copper with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had semi-opaque coverage in one stroke, but it had more slip than a lot of the other shades, so it applied better in short strokes and layered after it sets slightly. Once on, the color stayed put for ten hours. Get comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

Copperthorn is described as a “copper bronze.” It’s a medium-dark copper brown with chunky gold and copper sparkle/glitter. It’s extremely chunky and sparkly with more of a sheer base color–the majority of this one is sparkle. I actually found it chunkier than when it was previously released. The majority of the eyeliner seems to stay in place (I can tell where I put it and still see that distinct line after ten hours), but there were glittery bits underneath my eye and on my cheek during wear. Get comparison swatches/ compare dupes side-by-side.

It really is! It’s not even a colour I would likely wear in terms of eye makeup, yet I still want it because it’s so pretty! Pigmentation looks great too.

Blitz and Glitz looks a lot like the pencil called Black Line from the Alluring Aquatic collection – which is a absolutely wonderful product, very easy to work with.

I’ve always wanted to try a MAC Fluidline, might grab Blitz & Glitz. I like that it has some shimmer to it, as dark matte blacks can look harsh on me. So glad these are permanent, so I don’t have to battle with 10 zillion other people to get it on March 26!

I have a question at the risk of sounding dumb :-/ But what was the point of including blacktrack to this collection? It’s permanent and it does not have a special packaging… I am just recently getting into MAC and just noticed this… thanks!

Hi Olivia,

MAC has technically revamped/changed/updated the Fluidline range to Pro Longwear Fluidline, and this is the new permanent range (much expanded). Additionally, much like how MAC promotes mascaras, they do repromote certain basic eyeliners and the like (Smolder, for instance). It’s better MAC repromote Blacktrack than come out with 20 black eyeliners that all look the same, you know?

Olivia Avatar

Ah! You did say they were pro longwear. Gotcha! Thanks. I was just thinking, what was the point of repromoting, in general. But I guess it’s a good idea when you’re changing the line 🙂 . I’m excited to try the new blacktrack! It’s been my go-to for years. And blue peep is just fabulous! Thanks for your hard work!

I know, and thats the BEST I could find. Everything else lasts even less than that. I must have really oily lids or watery eyes or something. It sucks because I wear winged liner and waterline liner every single day, and I have to redo it constantly throughout the day or it just disappears.

Sigh. The copperthorn is really my favorite based purely on shade, but i was afraid from your sneak peek yesterday the quality would be lacking. I think these are all misses for me. The blitz & glitz reminds me a bit of NARS’ baalbek (which I like better). Thanks for the reviews, Christine!

I really did not realize these were permanent! But,these collections are going to force me to finally try some Mac fluidlines! I so have my eye on the violet and the dark, dark blue, and the royal blue in the P.T collection(I am being too lazy to look for the names, sorry!) Out of these, I am going for Blue Peep and Blitz and Glitz. I like Brassy. But I have a gold by Inglot that I would probably rate about the same. How do these tend to last? Do they dry out quick? Thanks for busting out these reviews!

I have one from *years* ago, Delineate, and it’s still good! I scoop out a small amount with a spatula each time I use it (it’s a red, so not one I use regularly, LOL!), so it’s lasted a really long time.

xamyx Avatar

These are all gorgeous, but the reality is I’d only actually use Blacktrack, and let’s face it-there are “blacker” gel liners on the market at 1/2 the price.

Bonnie Avatar

Not a big fan Mac, have only ever owned a few lipsticks and lip liners of theirs. Most of their reviews are just sorta average, and I hate the LE craze and panic. But I think I might go ahead and get a couple of these!! Blue peep and Blitz and Glitz look great!!! Do you think Copperthorn would work better (as in less fallout) over a glitter adhesive? I so want it, it’s so gorgeous.

Alisha Avatar

Is the regular blacktrack the same as far as opaqueness as this pro longwear one? Sorry I don’t have one on hand and I always thought of it as a nice fully opaque, maximum coverage but when I look at the above line on this one it looks a little weak. sometimes those things are more apparent in swatches than application I guess

Wasn’t Blitz and Glitz released in pencil form previously? The Alluring Aquatic collection?? Will look that up definitely. I love that pencil for being black without being black. Plus, it gives dimension to hazel eyes, seems to pick them up very beautifully. So the fluidline version is definitely a must have.

Christine: How do you feel about Copperthorn’s usefulness as a liner above a liner. This is one of those colours I would love to wear layered above a black eyeliner on upper lashline. Maybe too challenging with too much fallout? Sad and disappointed in this one…love the thought of it.

These are all gorgeous, except for Copperthorn. I’ll bet it feels like thorns if one of those huge glitter chunks get in your eyes. Blue Peep is stunning.

Hi, I asked 3 Live Chat assistants and they all said not all of the Mac Is Beauty Shades are Permanent. The limited edition shades are: Copperthorn, Our Secret, Ivy Fresh, Blue Peep, Looking Good and Siahi.
They said these are not Permanent. I was really hoping they were! Do you know?

Christy Avatar

Hi Christine,
Thanks a lot for the reply. When did you ask them? I asked today.
Is there any way you can find out? Hoping I don’t have to stock up and panic! 🙂

Christy Avatar

Hi,
I was never inferring your info was not validated by MAC, I was just trying to figure out if they decided to change their decision, or if the Live Chat Assistants are misinformed. The site does list several of the shades as limited. Still confusing to me. Thanks again.
