MAC Apres Chic: Porcelain Pink Returns!

MAC Porcelain Pink Mineralize Skinfinish ($29.00 for 0.32 oz.) is described as a “soft pinky coral with gold veining.” It’s a light pink with warm undertones and a dusting of gold sparkle and shimmer. It looks more coral in the pan than it does when swatched. Chanel Pink Cloud is pinker, less golden. MAC Rhapsody in Two is a touch pinker. Benefit Sugarbomb is a darker pink and less metallic.

The version of Porcelain Pink that I had previously was made in 2009, and though I opted not to purchase a new one when it re-released last year, I thought it might be high time to try again and see if MAC had refined the texture at all! Like I mentioned in my Stereo Rose review, there is variation across the Mineralize Skinfinishes, due to the random veining. The one I bought this year seems to be pinker than my 2009 one, which is almost a bit peachy in comparison.

Porcelain Pink has a high frosted, slightly metallic finish. The texture felt marginally finer and softer, but I think it’s more the nature of the veining that gives it a slightly powdery, not-quite-gritty but not-quite-smooth feel. It wore for around six hours but was slightly faded along the edges, and then it started to look a bit patchy after seven hours. Mineralize face products tend to fade on me more quickly than MAC’s regular powder products, just as a warning.

Years ago, I was torn between getting Porcelain Pink or Petticoat and I got the latter, which I think is a way better purchase for me as I can use the more richly veined side as a blush and the less deeply coloured side as a highlight (I was fortunate to get one that was almost equally and evenly divided between paler and pigmented veins).

This is my hands down, all time, FAVORITE highlight EVER! I have super fair skin and this gives the most gorgeous glow to my skin, it brightens and awakens my face and just gives the most radiant sheen that I’ve ever seen! I love this above my Chanel, Laura Mercier, Too Faced, etc. I use this on so many of my clients and they love it as well because it just adds that touch of pizazz that takes a look from “wow” to “AMAZING” 🙂 I honestly cannot live without this product, and considering this is the 3rd time MAC has released this color…I’m guessing I’m not alone 😉

Well MAC has me well trained, when I saw the two MSF I jumped Pavlovian style and ordered them because I have held off on getting any since the two from the ice cream themed collection way back in history.

Hi Christine,
I want to get a MAC skinfinish (my first one), for the purpose of highlighting and general skin “glow” effect. I really trust your taste, and would love and appreciate to her your opinion!
Which skinfinish would you recommend?

Thank you very much and I really appreciate all of your hard work!
Tina.

Funny. I noticed the same thing about the texture when I swatched this in store. The colour would work well for me, but I still have lots of similar shades that have a better texture.

I think this one might be perfect for my skin tone 🙂 lol a few weeks ago I went to sephora with my sister-in-law and the SA couldn’t match a foundation that was light enough for my skin. I’ve been looking for a highlighter that adds a tiny flush to my cheeks. Pink Porcelain, you just may do!

That is SO pretty. I think I can get past a little texture issue if it makes as nice of a glowy blush color as I think it will on me. I may have to swatch this one in person to see if it’s an even trade though.
