MAC Peach Snow Ball Face Bag Review, Photos, Swatches

MAC Peach Snow Ball Face Bag
MAC Peach Snow Ball Face Bag

Peach

MAC Peach Snow Ball Face Bag ($49.50 for 0.31 oz.) contains a highlighter and face brush. The highlighter is specially packaged to fit the Snow Ball collection but is also available in the permanent range for $34. The brush is available as a full-sized brush for $42.00 (the handle will be longer), so assuming that the brush is one that you’ve wanted or would use, then the set itself could make sense. I don’t find that the brush is remotely practical for this type of highlighter; it’s a much stronger highlighter and the brush is quite large, so it’s hard to get precise application. The brush would be better suited for a more subdued highlighter or finishing powder–something you can apply lightly over larger areas.

Show Gold

Show Gold is a light, yellowed peach with a pink-to-gold shifting, metallic finish. There were some larger sparkly bits, so the highlighter will be more suited to someone who likes over-the-top highlighters. The consistency was soft–a touch dry as Extra Dimension Powders often feel–but blendable and easy to pickup with a brush (the included one or something else). It had good pigmentation that was easy to sheer out or to build up for truly intense highlighting. It wore well for eight hours on me before fading (out of the 10 hours claimed).

Formula Overview

$44.00/0.31 oz. - $141.94 Per Ounce

The Extra Dimension Skinfinish formula is supposed to give “the perfect glow to the skin” with a “creamy powder formula” that wears for “10 hours.” It’s a powder highlighter that I’d describe as a moderate to intense highlighter, and they come in varying hues with some that might work as highlighting blushes/bronzers are on some skin tones and true highlighters on other skin tones. In general, the formula is very pigmented, blendable, and wears around eight to nine hours on me.

MAC 140SES Synthetic Full Fan Brush

140SES Synthetic Full Fan Brush

140SES Synthetic Full Fan Brush is a flatter face brush with a rounded edge, almost like a denser, rounded fan brush as it has a wider spread than most blushes. With time being of the essence, I have not used this brush as I would to test a brush before reviewing it, so I would consider this more as initial thoughts than a concrete review. It’s made out of synthetic fibers, and as far as synthetic brushes go, I was surprised it wasn’t softer and smoother. It picked up a lot of product with ease and distributed it over a wide area.

It did not work as well with this particular powder, which was a bit drier and had larger sparkles, as it did not apply it as evenly as other brushes I use for highlighting powders (often tapered ones). The brush itself is massive, so it is not ideal for precision; it worked decently for applying highlight in one pat along the cheekbone but I had to be careful to only pick up product on the edge of the brush. There were no immediate issues with respect to shedding or it retaining its shape post-washing.

MAC seemed to describe the full-sized, standalone brush as more of a general, face powder brush than a highlighting one, and I’d agree with that–it would work just fine for applying loose or pressed face powders, whether blotting, finishing, or setting in nature. To that end, the rating reflects how the specific brush is described and less how it worked with the highlighting powder in the set.

I had no clue the highlighter was permanent, so thank you for pointing that out. I was drawn to the compact and pattern, but did not like the shade when I swatched it in stores. I know Whisper of Guilt is the crowd favorite, but I never really liked that colour either, at least not for my cheeks–I could use it on my eyes, but that’s awfully expensive and large for an eyeshadow. 🙂 Oh the dilemma of wanting to purchase this just for the design but my rational mind telling me not to!

I agree with you Christine, about the brush – it would be difficult, if not impossible, to use for precision highlighting, but it would be OK to use for a setting powder. Actually, it’s quite impressive that MAC has included a good brush – most brushes you get with products are completely useless.
The highlighter is a lovely shade and would suit many complexions, but it’s a shame that sparkly bits were included – a soft shimmer would have made this highlighter more user friendly to a wider audience.
Thank you for the review Christine.

Not an easy choice for me one way or the other. I love that duochrome shift in this highlighter! It has the same thematic as the Stylishly Merry EDES and in a deeper version with the Shimmer & Spice lipstick. Would be great to have all 3. However, I feel as if I’ve got quite a few highlighters right now. Wouldn’t mind getting a backup of Whisper Of Gilt, though….I believe it has a more refined glow than glittery bits this one has.

Thank you so much for reviewing this today, Christine!

Could you post a side by side skin swatch of both Peach and Show Gold from the Snow Ball Collection? It’s hard to decipher between the two. Thanks.

The struggle is real–ive been eyeing that brush since it’s full size release and have avoided temptation so far. But I LOVE short handled brushes(am oily and touch up throughout the day) and the rose gold packaging is just absolutely icing on the cake for me! I have absolutely zero use for the highlighter and would definitely just gift that to a friend. So, spend a few more dollars and get the pretty short handled version that I love but don’t need, save a few dollars and get the full sized version or save all the monies and skip entirely. I feel like I need one of those talk it outs, or whatever you call them?
