MAC A Passionate Quest Eyeshadow Quad ($40.00 for 0.19 oz.) is a mix of cool pink and purple. Three of the four shades were quite good, with the very last shade being somewhat of a miss (not a total miss, but it could be better). They work well together, and there is a good mix of finishes and contrast in the palette so there are several looks that could be created from it. It will launch with the rest of the collection on August 14th online, August 21st in-stores.

The Wrong Man is described as a “light cool dusty pink [with a Satin finish].” It’s a light pink with subtle cool, lavender undertones and a mostly matte finish. It looks primarily matte, even if it is listed as a Satin. It had good color payoff, and the texture was soft and blendable, while it lasted for eight hours on me. Tarte Pink Outside the Box (LE) is lighter. NARS Bouthan #1 (P, $24.00) is lighter. MAC Dynamic Duo 4 #1 (LE, $15.00) is darker. MAC Miss Piggy Pink (LE, $15.00) is darker. Benefit Pinky Swear (P, $20.00) is lighter. Benefit Pause for Applause (P, $20.00) is slightly more lavender. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Serenade is described as a “mid-tone orchid pink with blue duochrome pearl [with a Veluxe Pearl finish].” It’s a warm-toned, medium pink-shimmered plum with a frosted finish. It had nice pigmentation, and the texture was fairly smooth and easy to use. On me, the color didn’t show signs of fading until after eight hours of wear. MAC Violet Blend #3 (LE) is warmer. Fyrinnae Meerkat (Pressed) (P, $8.25) is darker. Milani Pink Twice (P, $6.99) is slightly darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Brazenly is described as a “rich eggplant [with a Veluxe Pearl finish].” It’s a brightened, medium-dark plum with warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had excellent color payoff, and the texture was soft and buttery. It’s still one of MAC’s better LE eyeshadows (it is a repromote). It wore well for eight and a half hours before starting to slightly fade along the outer edge. MAC Hidden Motive (LE, $15.00) is a touch lighter. Tom Ford Beauty Seductive Rose #4 (P) is darker. Chanel Delicatesse #4 (LE) is darker. MAC Double Feature #1 #2 (LE, $15.00) is cooler-toned. Guerlain Boulevard du Montparnasse #6 (LE) is cooler-toned. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Overlook (P, $14.00) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Stay Sultry is described as a “deep violet navy [with a Satin finish].” It’s a dark purple with navy micro-shimmer over a satin finish. It had so-so color payoff, and the texture was on the drier, thinner side. This was the miss of the palette, though in practical terms, if you apply it as a crease/outer lid color with a fluffier brush, it performs a bit better than it looks. I wish it was softer, so it would be easier to blend out (and probably would have had better color payoff!). It lasted for eight hours on me before showing a little creasing. This is a repromote. theBalm #5 (P, $6.50) is bluer. theBalm The Stroke (P, $16.00) is similar. MAC Double Feature #8 #2 (LE, $15.00) is similar. MAC Ron Ron Run (LE, $15.00) is more matte, a touch lighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

I am totally addicted to purple and taupe, and this palette was screaming my name. But…I was hoping it would be bad so I could put more money toward the matte lip collection in October 🙁 Don’t know whether to be happy or sad, but this palette will be coming home with me!

Very pretty but not a must have for me. Awaiting the review last palette. 🙂 Thanks again Christine, love, love LOVE these reviews!! HOW did I ever buy makeup without them?

Karla Avatar

I know right!!?? I been waiting for brazenly since i missed the nudes & metallics collection but i want it as a single so i can put it on my own palette 🙁

I wish I wore purples more often because this is gorgeous and the quality seems great considering the limited edition palettes can be hit or miss.

I might have to get this just so I can have one purple themed palette

Love the name “The Wrong Man” but I don’t wear a lot of purples (some but not a lot) and have enough to meet my needs already. But this is a lovely quad and it’s nice to see MAC releasing something that’s worthy of their name and past rep.

Sarah Avatar

That is beautiful! Sometimes I try to guess the grade by just looking at the swatches and looks you do, and I guessed this was an A. I’m glad it was!

I might get this one….so far the other items in the collection have looked a lot like things I already have. But this one is really gorgeous and might find it’s way into my basket…

I was actually keeping my eye on the other two quads for this collection, but after seeing the swatches for this one, I think I need this one instead! Purple eyeshadows look good on my brown eyes, and these look fun and quality, not flat, chalky, or boring!

The colour “Brazenly” is so stunning! I’ve been wanting to pick up cranberry by MAC for awhile, because it would make such a pretty crease shade, and this palette just reminds me how much I love the berry look.

Obviously, I approve of the colour scheme for this palette, LOL 😉 I wish Stay Sultry was as even as the other shades – it’s always so odd when they make a palette and 3 of the sahdes are great and one is kinda off. It’s like – the same company made all of these shades, right? 😉

Still, definitely a rogueworthy colour set 🙂

Amazing! The pink-purple quad made it with flying colours! Another one on the long, long want list.As this is purple it makes it to the top of the list 🙂

i love this but i know it will look terrible on me and i’ll never wear it. i dont like buying HE makeup to just look at 🙁

Hey Christine! Just a quick question, when you test your eyeshadows for wear – creasing, fading etc – do you use them with a primer or without? If so, which one do you use?

Christine Avatar

No, I very rarely use primer – in the rare instance that I do, I will say so in the review and in the caption for the photo. Most eyeshadow formulas are marketed as long-wearing, so primer seems like a cop out (for review purposes – nothing wrong with using it in real life!).
