MAC Opalesse Extra Dimension Eyeshadow Review, Photos, Swatches
MAC Opalesse Extra Dimension Eyeshadow
MAC Opalesse Extra Dimension Eyeshadow ($21.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as an “opalescent white with pink pearl.” It’s a pale white with an iridescent pearl shimmer/sheen. MAC Defiance is lighter. I also think MAC Pink Opal is similar but perhaps less metallic. MAC Ready to Party is cooler-toned. MAC Young Venus is pinker, less iridescent.
The texture of this still has that slightly dry feeling that the Extra Dimension finish seems to have (a dryness that’s not really bad, but it is still there), but it applies very smoothly–almost as if it melts against the skin. Applied dry, it has semi-opaque color coverage, and applied damp, it intensifies the color payoff to mostly opaque with a stronger reflective sheen. It blended well on the lid, and it wore for seven hours without creasing or fading (MAC claims six).
Opalesse
LELimited Edition. $20.00.

I’m not sure if I love this or will leave it. I have only one Extra Dimension shadow (Havana) and I do find the texture tricky – can’t really get “delivery” of the shadow onto the lid the way I’d like and in the morning, I’m not really in a mindset to start futzing around with applying it wet. So as much as I like the look of this one, I might just pass on it.
If you already have one, worth trying a damp application – really not a lot of work or anything (well, unless you aren’t near a sink, I suppose!).
The swatches on your arm reminded me of MAC Powder Eyeshadow in Vex, Christine. How does this compare?
Vex is grayer, less pink. Vex has a duochrome, too, but not quite the same – layered it might be closer.
Thank you. I’m glad this collection got good reviews from you. My wallet not so much, as I’m planning to get all the blushes. 😀
Thank you Christine. How do you compare it with mac pigment pink opal.
From the review above: I also think MAC Pink Opal is similar but perhaps less metallic. HTH!
This looks like Pink Opal pigment
Hi Christine, how does this compare to MAC Vanilla pigment?
From the review above: I also think MAC Pink Opal is similar but perhaps less metallic. HTH!
This is really pretty but I think the effect is very similar to MAC Vex so I might skip this
This reminds me of OCC Oberon…by any chance do you know how they compare colorwise?
No, sorry, I don’t!
Hi Christine! Do you think this would be a good highlight for the tops of cheekbones? I’ve been looking for something pink and opalescent for that purpose, but am wary of the shimmer. Would it be too shimmery? I also have large pores and do not want to exaggerate those.
Thanks for the review! It’s gotten me intrigued. =]
I think it would be too shimmery – it CAN be used, but if you don’t want to emphasize pores, I’d look for something else!
Hi Christine! I only wanted to say that it looked to me pretty similar to the pink part of Urban Decay Glinda palette Aura, maybe more reflective this one!
anyway, thanks for all of your swatches! they’ve been really helpful especially when I have to order online and I want to check a shade!
This one kind of reminds me of MAC’s Sea Myth from the Lure Collection.
Ulta has a shade in their own shadow line — which hadn’t been available for a little while, but it’s back now — called Pearl which looks VERY much like this, and which I adore and use all the time.
This is the one I was most interested in, but it reminds me too much of NARS Himalayas, so I can’t justify this one…
Looks a bit like Nars Himalaya, a bit whiter maybe…
Of the 4 MAC extra dimension colors, Young venus, ready to party, opalesse, and triple impact are the most similar?
Most similar to what? I’m not sure what you’re asking! 🙂
It seems like all four colors are pretty similar to each other. I guess I’m asking if i have young venus and ready to party, should I purchase the triple impact and opalesse?
I think you could skip 🙂 Opalesse will be more different than the others.
love this eyeshadow. It is part of my daily routine. Use it wet and it is AMAZING.
