MAC Glamour Daze Extra Dimension Eyeshadows Reviews, Photos, Swatches (Part 1)

When was the Last Holiday Collection Without Mineralize Eyeshadows?

MAC Glamour Daze Extra Dimension Eyeshadows ($19.50 for 0.04 oz.) includes eight shades, and this post highlights four of them: Divine Blue (mid-tone aqua), Evening Grey (steel silver), A Natural Flirt (soft peachy nude), and Ready to Party (pale lilac).

MAC first launched this formula this past March, which I reviewed here and here. The most important thing I wanted to address is that MAC is–again–squeezing customers on both ends; these were originally $20 each and contained 0.07 oz. of product. This was a mere seven months ago. Now, you’ll spend $19.50 and get 0.04 oz. This is a 43% decrease in quantity (0.03 oz. less) for a 2.5% decrease in product ($0.50 less). Say what? (And worse? MAC’s website is listing these as 0.07 oz., but the back of all of mine say 0.04 oz.)

The formula is an interesting hybrid of liquid and powder, though I couldn’t tell you where the liquid really comes into play (at least, by touch). It feels like a cross between MAC’s powder eyeshadows and their Mineralize Eyeshadows. MAC says the colors range from sheer to buildable coverage, and they can be used wet or dry. They’re supposed to last for six hours on the lids. I tested five of the eight, and after six, they were still in good shape–after eight hours, there was a little fading, so they’re true to the six hour claim. When used dry, they were a bit more prone to fading than if used damp or over a primer.

Something I noticed when I was swatching through these recently released shades was that they did not seem to be as smooth as the ten that were originally launched.  I wouldn’t say they were gritty, just not as smooth.  I think it might be that some of these have a more iridescent/shimmery finish, as Evening Grey and Ready to Party were two shades I noticed it in.  A Natural Flirt seemed more in line with the texture of the original shades.

Divine Blue is a bluish aqua with a frosted, slightly metallic finish. It’s an interesting color, because at a glance, it’s blue, but then there’s that play of aqua that turns blue on its side–it’s not enough to turn it teal, though. Make Up For Ever #25 is bluer. MAC Styledriven is bluer, but it is similar in lightness. Urban Decay Unhinged is several shades darker.

Evening Grey is a medium-dark silver-shimmered gray with subtle brown undertones. It had good color payoff both wet and dry, though it was a bit more intense when applied wet. MAC Warm Thunder is a bit darker, a little more blue-tinged. MAC Tundra is similar, though lighter/more metallic.

A Natural Flirt is a soft, light-medium peach with a golden shimmer-sheen. When applied dry, it’s a bit sheer, while it definitely turns more opaque when applied dampened. There’s a hint of duochrome-like sheen in this, though not a lot! Le Metier de Beaute Nouvelle is pinker. Dior Aurora is similar. MAC Pure Flash is darker, sheerer. Tarina Tarantino Delightful is warmer, darker. theBalm Luscious Lani is similar, a bit darker.

Ready to Party is a lilac pink with a bright metallic finish that comes out more when it is applied damp. It is very shimmery, almost iridescent. When applied dry, it’s very sheer. MAC likes these types of pinks: Fresh & Mint is a smidgen lighter, whiter; Young Venus is less metallic and iridescent; Joy & Laughter is darker; and Fresh Ice is just a bit whiter. Tarina Tarantino Diamond Dusk is similar but less metallic. Dior Garden Pastels is pinker.

So disappointed in the value of these! I’m loving A Natural Flirt, but I really doubt I’d pick anything else, even if I do like them! Seriously, MAC, if you think people are going to throw money at you just because it’s limited, you’re wrong. -.-

Apropos of nothing – Christine, I think the DiorShow mascara looks better on you than the Armani 🙂 The look you did with these eyeshadows is gorgeous, as well.

I actually liked the Armani mascara on Christine, but it was completely disastrous on me. It made all my eyelashes stick together!!! I have an almost full tube sitting in my makeup bag and I’d rather use my backup cheapo L’oreal Voluminous than the Armani.

Hey Christine,

Do you think Ready to Party is similar to UD Hot Pants? Also is Stylishly Merry similar to UD Woodstock or MAC Infraviolet eyeshadow from the Electric Cool Collection?

Wwendalynne Avatar

Out of this set, I ordered Evening grey. It reminds me of UD Mushroom, not colour wise, but possibly as one of those shadows that works with everything; particularly with the brown undertones.. That was the big draw for me. I love these and I’m happy to see the quality remains high these shadows. A formula MAC can be proud of.

I think Evening Grey and Natural Flirt are the 2 I’m most interested in, but I still am not sure if I will actually purchase any of them. I might be the only one, but I’m starting to get tired of all these liquid/powder hybrids that keep coming out…

natural flirt is identical to the maybelline color tattoo in barley beige. even though i love it, im saving my money and sticking with the maybelline

How about Warm Thunder.. another extra dimension shadow by MAC that Christine suggested? It’s not an exact dupe, but it’s the same texture, larger shadow for the same price!!! (and still available online! 🙂

There’s a few of these I REALLY want, but the price thing bothers me. I wouldn’t have known (because I didn’t buy any last time around), if you hadn’t mentioned it. I do like the smaller size, though. *sigh* What’s a girl to do?

The duo chrome in A Natural Flirt is what sold me one it in person when I was able to test it out in store. I would have skipped it otherwise but it suck a nice nude wash of colour on my ultra fair skin.

43% decrease?! Wow. Not cool. I only have four MAC products and it’s looking like it will stay that way. (Two were the StyleSeeker mattenes – love those!)

Plus, I have enountered VERY rude workers every time. It’s such a turn off.

April Avatar

Thanks for doing the math on the markup… That’s ridiculous. I have been disappointed with MAC since they downsized the pigments and did nothing to reflect that in the price.

The blue shade is absolutely gorgeous – any idea how it compares to Moon’s Reflection or Mutiny pigment?

The Mac artist did a smoky eye for me, with a very interesting use of Ready to Party (pale lilac).
She smudged Feline heavily as a base close to upper and lower waterline, applied the Fluidline Little Black bow as a base up to the crease, applied some of the black Extra Dimension shadow close to the lashline and below the eye – and then brushed Ready to Party into the crease, lightly touching Little Black Bow and above. Where Little Black Bow was below it, Ready to Party turned into the most amazing metallic lilac, very intense, above it is was sheer as always. She applied it below the lower lashes also. Most amazing black smoky eye I’ve ever had (I have green eyes, that looks so amazing with Ready to Party and Little Black Bow – my eyes turn to the darkest emeralds :)))) ).

I have since used it all over the lid on the dark base, it’s marvellous.
Thought I’d share this especiallyf or green and brown eyed gals who may mistakenly pass on Ready to party thinking it is no great colour. Will absolutely get a backup (and I rarely do that, normally).
