MAC A Novel Romance Lipglasses Reviews, Photos, Swatches
MAC A Novel Romance Lipglasses
There are five new, limited edition shades of MAC Lipglass ($15.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) in the upcoming A Novel Romance collection, which will launch online on August 14th and be in-stores (and at counters) on August 21st.
Bared for You ($15.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is described as a “soft rose gold.” It’s a light-medium, peach with soft white shimmer. I get less rose gold, more peach than anything else. It had semi-opaque color coverage with plenty of shimmer and a glossy shine. It settled somewhat into lip lines but applied fairly evenly. It wore well for three and a half hours on me. MAC Water Deities (LE, $15.00) is sheerer, less peach. MAC Pure Flattery (LE, $15.00) is pinker. MAC Naked Space (LE, $15.00) is lighter, less shimmery. MAC Good Lovin’ (LE, $15.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Pure Fiction ($15.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is described as a “mid-tone violet pink.” It’s a cool-toned, light-medium pink with blue undertones and a milky, creamy finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, and it did settle somewhat into lip lines, unfortunately! This shade lasted for three and a half hours on me. MAC Pure Silliness (LE, $15.00) is darker, less cool-toned, brighter. MAC Carousel (LE, $15.00) is warmer. MAC Patentpink (LE, $20.00) is slightly darker. NYX Merengue (P, $5.00) is similar. MAC Long Love Love (P, $19.50) is slightly cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Reckless Desire ($15.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is described as a “sheer pearlescent lavender grey.” It has a clear base with pink and lavender iridescent shimmer. It is sheer as the base really seems colorless. It wears three hours on me. MAC Vacant (LE, $15.00)is less shimmery. MAC Icescape (LE, $15.00) is pinker. Bobbi Brown Firefly (P, $24.00) is more iridescent. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Talk Sexy ($15.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is described as a “dark purple.” It’s a cool-toned, medium-dark berry plum with fuchsia and gold shimmer. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, which meant that it didn’t look as even applied on its own, though it wasn’t too noticeable from a normal viewing distance (just up close). This shade wore well for four and a half hours. Dior Intrigue (995) (P, $35.00) is less shimmery, brighter. MAC Modern Lure (LE, $15.00) is redder, warmer. Tom Ford Beauty Wet Violet (P, $45.00) is cooler-toned, less shimmery. MAC Rebel (LE, $15.00) is less shimmery, cooler-toned. MAC Flight of Fancy (LE, $15.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Wanting More ($15.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is described as a “washed-out lavender.” It’s a light, milky pink with a subtle gray tint. It had semi-opaque color payoff, but this one settled terribly into lip lines and looked so uneven applied. The gloss lasted for three and a half hours on me. MAC Tender (P, $22.00) is cooler-toned. MAC The Wee Coquette (LE, $15.00) is similar. MAC Good Times (LE, $15.00) is cooler-toned, pinker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Talk Sexy looks pretty.
That was my personal favorite!
Oh my gosh, I can’t get over how gorgeous Bared for You is! I don’t own any nude shades for my lips that actually work for me, but that is definitely something I’m checking out. Thank you for the swatches! 🙂
No prob, Kimmy!
I love Talk Sexy, tho it only gets a B+. Slightly disappointing, but acceptable. I do love the very vampire dark lips, but semi-opaque finish actually can blur the fine line between professional day-look and evening look. I’m kinda into these finishes recently. Thank you very much Christine, for these beautiful photos and thorough reviews and you look great in Talk Sexy too!
Thank you, Fuji! I really liked Talk Sexy – it has enough shimmer and is fairly even that it looks okay on most of the time.
For some reason I really like Reckless Desire, it would be a fun shade to layer over other lipsticks. And Talk Sexy is gorgeous too!
I love the shimmer in Reckless Desire! If I didn’t have Bobbi Brown Firefly, it would be more exciting to me!
I don’t have the Bobbi Brown one, that’s probably why it excites me so much 🙂
The shades look like a romance novel. I’m just in awe of the number of LE collections they come out with in the course of a year, one after another. wow
They do come out with a lot!
Reckless Desire and Talk Sexy are by the sheerer side on their own but they look like beautiful glosses to layer over lipsticks!
Reckless Desire definitely seems like a layering gloss!
I WANT Talk Sexy in my stash!
I like that one!
I thought I was going to like talk sexy as it looked a lot like the one from the alluring aquatic collection now as I see it swatched I think I’m gonna skip it and go for 3 of the lipsticks instead 🙂
Enjoy the new lipsticks!
Ooh! Talk Sexy is definitely my fave 🙂
Mine too!
Talk Sexy reminds me of a more berry-toned version of Bobbi Brown’s Naked Plum High Shimmer Lipgloss. Love it!
I can see that!
The only one I like is Bared For You..it’s gorgeous!
Yay! Do you think you’d wear it alone or layered?
It’s looks beautiful on its own!
THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE SWATCHES! These sounded so much better on paper. Will be skipping all of them. OK, maybe just Pure Fiction. But then maybe not. 😛
No problem, Maddie! 🙂
Awww. I wish these were more pigmented ): Theyre such lovely colors!
Aww!
Talk Sexy seems like the best one here and probably the most universally flattering!
It should work on a lot of skin tones!
I like the color of many of these (especially Bared for You), but I so wish they didn’t settle into lip lines!
Me too! I hate settling!
definitely going to pick up Talk Sexy
Yay!
Too bad Wanting More left you…wanting more, lol. Sorry, so lame, I know, couldn’t help myself. I would have been interested in this given the grey tint which I find appealing. I wonder if it would work well over Bite Beauty Cava?
I love a good pun 😉
Bared for you is so pretty!
I like how it shimmers!
These were quite disappointing! I wish Reckless Desire had more of a lavender base color as opposed to clear. And again with the weird color descriptions! Bared For You doesn’t have much rose in it to me. Do you know how Pure Fiction compares to Viva Glam Gaga I lipglass?
Gaga is a lot lighter – cooler – almost grayish!
I think reckless desire is my favourite from these – Talk Sexy would be, but I can’t stand things being uneven, even if it’s only me/up close that you can see it! 😛
I totally understand! It’s not something I like!
I’m definitely getting Talk Sexy! It reminds me of a Dior addict gloss that I’ve always wanted, but I believe is now discontinued. Either way, this is less than half the price.
YAYYYYY! 😀
I like them all except for Wanting More. That one looks a little hard to pull off. Bared for You, Reckless Desire and Pure Fiction are calling to me. They’re so pretty!
Will you be getting those three, you think?
Four of these look like they were recycled ideas from Alluring Aquatic, and one looks like Playland. I’m not impressed. I wish MAC would do fewer collections and focus on uniqueness and quality, not quantity.
There are some repeats!
Wanting More seems like it would be an interesting color for toning down bright fuchsia and magenta lipsticks.
That’s an interesting idea!
“Wanting More” is certainly an apt name, as it leave so much to be desired!
LOL!
I guess settling is a problem with most milky and dark glosses 😀 it’s ok on the first shimmery one, though. the second isn’t that bad on your lips, either. they are in perfect condition 😀
It seems to be VERY common with the milky/light shades for sure. Talk Sexy is workable, at least!
How does reckless desire compare with mac perky lipglass
Perky is less iridescent!
I haven’t wanted a MAC lipglass in YEARS. But Talk Sexy is calling my name, and as soon as I saw Reckless Desire, I thought of Icescape! It used to be one of my favorite lipglasses back in the day. I’m not sure if I would wear it anymore now, but it’s beautiful anyway!
I can definitely see similarity to Icescape!
I really like Bared for you and Reckless Desire. I think it’s such a pity Talk Sexy wasn’t more even. I might get some of these, but am not sure. I do like MAC Lipglasses and I like them shimmery, so we’ll see.
I’m not fond of how Pure Fiction and Wanting More swatched out. I had one of MAC’s milky-type ones and gave it away. Can’t even remember the name. Reckless Desire and Talk Sexy, however, are right up my street. Lovely!
Yes, MAC’s milky glosses are VERY prone to looking streaky/uneven on. 🙁
oh geez talk sexy is calling my name 😀
