MAC Gunner Lipstick ($16.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “deep purple [with a Matte finish].” It’s a lightly brightened, dark purple with cool undertones and a satin finish. It had mostly opaque color coverage, and it applied fairly well (though not perfectly, I didn’t notice the imperfections at a normal viewing distance, only close-up). The consistency was lightly creamy and didn’t tug at the lips, but the finish isn’t truly matte as a result. It wore well for six and a half hours and left a fuchsia-like stain behind. It was a little drying over time. MAC Punk Couture (LE, $16.00) is lighter, warmer. Illamasqua Kontrol (P, $24.00) is more muted. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC Runner Lipstick ($16.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “burgundy [with a Matte finish].” It’s a medium-dark, burgundy red with subtle, warm undertones and a satin finish. It had mostly opaque pigmentation, but it didn’t look even when applied. There was something about it that looked almost grainy. The color itself wore really long (over six hours), but it was somewhat drying towards the last half of wear. I found it particularly troublesome to apply it from the tube, as it seemed prone to skipping. Tom Ford Beauty Black Dahlia (10) (LE, $50.00) is cooler-toned. MAC Fixed on Drama (LE, $16.00) is similar. MAC Endless Drama (P, $18.00) is darker. MAC Sin (P, $16.00) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC Stunner Lipstick ($16.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “clean red [with a Matte finish].” It’s a brightened, medium red with cool, pink undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had nearly full color coverage with a lightly creamy texture that was easy to apply. This shade wore well for six hours and left a stain behind. It was a little drying but the least drying of the three. MAC Kinky (LE, $16.00) is slightly warmer. Bite Beauty Fraise (P, $24.00) is lighter. NARS Deadly Catch (LE, $26.00) is slightly darker. MAC Damn Glamorous (LE, $16.00) is pinker. Kat Von D Hexagram (P, $21.00) is more matte. MAC Ruby (LE, $16.00) is glossier. Too Faced Melted Ruby (P, $21.00) is glossier, brighter. MAC RiRi Woo (LE, $16.00) is cooler-toned. MAC Ruby Woo (P, $16.00) is cooler-toned. MAC Ronnie Red (LE, $16.00) is similar. MAC MAC Red (P, $16.00) is cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

These lipsticks launch on December 4th on maccosmetics.com and at select store locations.

I’m excited for this collection as these are the colours I love the most in lipstick. I am a bit disappointed that they are in the standard mac packaging thought, I feel like being a collab with nasty gal a really out there pattern on the tube would be more fitting but none the less I am keen to get my hands on these 🙂

I was also wondering if you would be interested in doing a review on the Dose of Color lip products as I rate your reviews the highest and most trustworthy among the beauty community 🙂

You might want to check out the brand’s about you/founder, because maybe it would change your mind or at least you could learn why the name is what it is 🙂 From their about us section:

“The name was inspired by the song and album “Nasty Gal.” Betty Davis, the patron saint of badass women, was known for her unapologetically sexy funk music which comprises our vision of femininity—complete with lamé platform thigh-high boots.”

Sophia Amoruso is indeed pretty amazing. Her book “Girl Boss” is a good read.

And Betty Davis is pretty awesome, too.

Mostly I’m just thrilled the lipsticks are quality, cause they aren’t always.

i might have to get gunner-i love purple lips. the chanel reve d’orient quad looks great on you! it looks similar to the charlotte tilbury fallen angel quad. do you like the chanel or CT better?

I recently purchased Kontrol, and I’m waiting for it in the mail so I have yet to try it first hand… Christine, if you had to pick between Kontrol and Gunner, which would you pick? Based on reading your reviews my guess would be Kontrol (given your rave reviews over how buttery and how it wasn’t drying), but I figured I’d ask the question in case Gunner is one I might need to pick up as well! 🙂

Thanks! I’m super excited for it 😀

Honestly though, I can’t get over how Gunner looks on you… I truly think I need both! I’m convincing myself that they’re different enough to need both. Hello New Year’s Eve lipstick!!!

I really love Gunner, and Stunner looks like it could be the perfect dark red I’ve been searching for! Could be is the important part of that though, especially since it’s so similar to Living Legend, which I already have. It looks like it’s lighter and redder, but I should probably just compare them in person when this reaches stores? If nothing else I can wait to buy it, and if it sells out, then it just wasn’t meant to be, lol.

Why do I think Gunner looks exactly like Cyber? Stunner is a pretty red however I just got Kinky and I don’t think I need that many reds!

i wish they were more matte. gunner is my favourite although I already have Illamasqua Kontrol which is a bit more grey tone but as you said it’s basically a dupe. so i’m not sure i need gunner but i’m so tempted. Also, doesn’t NYX have a Wicked Lippie close to Gunner? I guess it’s just not matte though. I don’t know but I’ll stick to Kontrol for now because I think it’s the most unique.

I was really excited for Stunner and thought it was gorgeous, but then again it is very, very close to Kinky as here.

Sure looks gorgeous on you, Christine!
