MAC Moody Bloom Eyeshadows Reviews, Photos, Swatches

MAC Moody Bloom Eyeshadows
MAC Moody Bloom Eyeshadows

There are six shades of MAC Eyeshadow ($15.00 for 0.05 oz.) in the upcoming Moody Blooms collection. I have five of the six, and they’re quite good. Four of the six have a Veluxe Pearl, which is easily one of MAC’s most consistent and high-performing finishes.

Artistic License is described as a “pinky gold [with a Veluxe Pearl finish].” It’s a peachy-pink with a gold shimmer and a soft, frosted finish. It had fairly good color payoff, but the texture was a bit thinner and drier than most Veluxe Pearls. This shade wore well for eight hours on me. Too Faced Jardin (P, $16.00) is darker, brighter. Urban Decay X (P, $18.00) is more shimmery, lighter. MAC Dynamic Duo 1 #1 (LE, $15.00) is lighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Blooming Mad is described as a “mid-tone ultra violet [with a Frost finish].” It’s a light-medium, fuchsia-lavender with cool undertones and a pearly sheen. It had decent color payoff, but it could have been a bit softer and pigmented. This shade lasted for seven and a half hours on me. Illamasqua Charm (P) is similar. Tarina Tarantino Fantastical #2 (P) is darker, less shimmery. NARS Rage (LE, $24.00) is darker. MAC Violet Impact (LE, $15.00) is darker. CoverGirl Blazing Purple (340) (P, $4.99) is lighter. L’Oreal With a Twist (LE, $7.99) is more frosted, purpler. Urban Decay Grifter (P, $18.00) is lighter, more glittery. MAC Stars ‘n’ Rockets (P, $15.00) is very similar. Urban Decay Fishnet (P, $19.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Deep Fixation is described as a “metallic brown [with a Veluxe Pearl finish].” It’s a medium-dark brown with warm, red undertones and a soft, pearly finish. The texture is soft, buttery, and smooth, while the color payoff is excellent. It wore well for eight hours before fading. Too Faced Soleil (P, $16.00) is lighter. Makeup Geek Country Girl (P, $5.99) is lighter. NARS Naiade (P) is lighter, cooler-toned. MAC Antiqued (P, $15.00) is less red-toned. Guerlain Turandot #2 (LE) is similar. Guerlain Les Fauves #2 (LE) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Hidden Motive is described as a “deep aubergine [with a Veluxe Pearl finish].” It’s a medium-dark purple with warm, reddish undertones and a frosted finish. It had good pigmentation, and the texture was soft and smooth. This shade lasted for eight hours on me. Givenchy Prune Taffetas (8) (P, $23.00) is a cream product. theBalm #2 (P, $6.50) is less shimmery, darker. NARS Caravaggio #2 (P, $24.00) is darker. MAC Double Feature #1 #2 (LE, $15.00) is similar. MAC Plum Dressing (P, $15.00) is brighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Lucky Green is described as a “dark yellow green [with a Veluxe Pearl finish].” It’s a brightened, light-medium green with warm, yellow undertones and a golden sheen. It had great color payoff, and the texture was soft and buttery to the touch. This shade lasted for eight hours on me. This is a permanent shade. NARS Tropical Princess #1 (LE, $24.00) is lighter. MAC Chartreuse Bouquet (LE, $21.00) is less shimmery, brighter. Kat Von D Birdcage (LE) is a touch lighter. Inglot #412 (P, $6.00) is more muted. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Green Room is described as a “mid-tone teal [with a Satin finish].” I did not receive this shade, so I can’t share it with you at this time, but I hope to purchase it when it is available.

Pretty! But I just can’t handle another MAC collection so soon (after so many!!!). And I haven’t seen anything that got me excited with this collection. Curious to see your roundup comments.

May as well get this out of the way lol cause it’s gonna be asked. Is MACs Expensive Pink a dupe for Artistic License? Looks similar by the swatch. Thanks Christine. 🙂

Christine Avatar

Expensive Pink is much, much darker. You can actually pull up any two swatches I’ve done in the Swatch Gallery to compare side-by-side (http://www.temptalia.com/swatch-gallery) 🙂

Wow, I can usually pass right over MAC limited edition shadows (either due to poor quality or shades I just wouldn’t wear) but these are really appealing to me!! Being totally honest with myself though, I should really only look at getting Artistic License and Hidden Motive. I like the look of Deep Fixation, but I’ve had my eye on Antiqued for a while, and I think the slightly-less-red undertones of Antiqued would suit me better.

I like Sephora’s Colorful Monos in general, though I don’t think they have a really chartreuse-y shade other than Apple Mojito (http://www.temptalia.com/product/sephora-collection-colorful-eyeshadow/apple-mojito-06), which is more matte, darker – more lime green.

Some really nice eyeshadows here, I think. Lucky Green seems fantastic, I do have a love-hate relationship with green, Half the time I think I look horrible with green eyeshadow, and the other half I love how it looks, and yes, with the same exact shadow. Weird.
Hidden Motif is a must for me. Gorgeous color!
I also like Deep Fixation a lot. I don’t think I have any warm browns exept maybe some forgotten ones in a palette somewhere 🙂
Artistic License is a bit too sheer, and though I’d normally buy a shadow like Blooming Mad immediately I’m not always on good terms with the frost finish. I will swatch it when/if this LE comes here, though.

Helene Avatar

I’m sure you are right. I’ve now spent a few minutes documenting the green shadow I wear today, but before that I played and made the eyes a bit more out there, almost a bit avant guard, It’s fun to be creativ, even if it might look a bit stage-y.

@Christine

Two questions :)!:

Did you happen to test Artistic License with a wet brush? It looks so pretty, but fairly sheer. Also, would this also fit someone with NC42 skintone as well?

BTW, I have having a makupgasm from Deep Fixation! :O It is everything! It reminds me of brownscript, but in a pearl form.

I really like that MAC is releasing this very pretty variety of colors. I have my eye on Hidden Motive – I’m always willing to try any purple eyeshadow that performs well. I also loved the combination you did on your eyes, so lovely :D!

Rikki Avatar

I know I liked Artistic License in the beginning, and I still do, but I think my favourites just turned into Hidden Motive and Lucky Green. Not sure if I’ll be picking them up though since I want to save my money for the next month for my birthday shopping. 🙂

Zia Avatar

Hidden Motif and Lucky Green look great! I am closest to purchasing Lucky Green but I love greens and have so many… I was surprised to see I didn’t own any of the dupes for Lucky Green but I have to show self-constraint… sometime 😛

Erica Avatar

I bought Deep Fixation during the Nude Metallic collection and I love it paired with Body Conscious e/s or Woodwinked e/s. On my lids Deep Fixation and Antiqued are different copper colors and I love them both! Hidden Motive is my choice for this collection. Lucky Green in the pan resembles my beloved Mangrove from Nars.

zFashionizta Avatar

The only item I will be getting from this collection is the shadow Green Room, and that is only if I love it when I see it.

Quinctia Avatar

Artistic License reminds me a bit of Fyrinnae Rapunzel Had Extensions (though I think that might be darker)…and I like Blooming Mad’s complexity. Wish it were a wee bit more pigmented, though.

divinem1 (Melissa) Avatar

You’re a mad genius the way you can put colors together, Christine. Will definitely pick up a few of these, but I already have LG. Never would have thought to pair that in any way with the cool pinks/purples, but I get the floral inspiration. Gorgeous with your beautiful brown eyes!

Brenda Avatar

Christine, I did check the dupes for Deep Fixation and looked at Fyrinnae’s Peppermint Vodka – they look pretty close on my monitor but how close in real life are they? ( I know my monitor is a bit off). Also wondering about Agatha Pink from Memento Mori palette and ARtistic license? Thank you!

Brenda Avatar

Thanks for the reply on these!! I hope what have will stave off the “I must get these!!!” feelings! I happen to have Rapunzel had Extensions, as someone mentioned may be similar to Artistic License too.

zFashionizta Avatar

Today I received the only product I purchased from this collection, Green Room eyeshadow. It’s a beautiful shade of green but I am sure I have something similar by another company.

Jessica Avatar

Is it my imagination, but from the swatch gallery, it looks like blooming mad and stars n rockets are the exact same color. Am I wrong? Why would mac release an exact same shade, with a different name? If there’s any subtle differences, please tell me.

Christine Avatar

Hi Jessica!

It sure is! I mentioned that it is very similar in the review above 🙂 You can click “view on the Dupe List” (http://www.temptalia.com/makeup-dupe-list?id=167450), which will show you each dupe side-by-side. Stars ‘n Rockets is a bit darker as it isn’t as shimmery, but they are similar.

Natalia Avatar

Hi, Christine!

Need your help again in justifying spending money on smth from this collection 🙂 How does Artistic License compare to Lorelei and/or Gleam? Is it different enough to say that I need this as well? Thanks sooo much!
