MAC Nice & Simple Mineralize Lip Balm
MAC Apres Chic: Mineralize Lip Balm
MAC Mineralize Lip Balm ($19.50 for 0.33 fl. oz.) is a new lip formula that is supposed to give a tint of color with “mirror-like shine” that is also hydrating and moisturizing. It is available in five shades: Nice & Simple (bronzy gold with multi-dimensional pearl), Pure & Tender (plummy creamy nude), Rosy Romance (bluish plum with subtle pink pearl), Slightly Nude (nude coral and subtle pink pearl), and Stay Warm (creamy light pink).
Nice & Simple is a sheer, warm, yellowed orange with golden orange shimmer. This one gives a noticeable tint and shimmer to the lips. Bobbi Brown Canary has a lot more golden shimmer/sparkle. NARS Luster is similar.
Pure & Tender is a sheer, light-medium rosy beige. On my lips, it really just adds a glossy shine and helps to even out the natural coloring, but it doesn’t impart much color. There are a number of sheer glosses that have a similar effect (color-wise).
Rosy Romance is a darkened fuchsia pink with a dusting of pink micro-shimmer. This is the most pigmented shade of the five, and it noticeably tints lips to a darker pink. MAC Astral is more opaque. Urban Decay Jilted is lighter.
Slightly Nude is a yellowed orange. It is like Nice & Simple without the shimmer. This adds some warmth and a tinge of tangerine to my lips when I applied it. Any yellow-tinted sheer gloss will be similar.
Stay Warm is a light-medium, yellow-toned pink. This shade was a bit milky, and it lightened the natural lip color noticeably, but because of the milkiness, it did not apply as evenly as the other four shades. Tarte Darling is similar but has some shimmer. Chanel Imaginaire is a touch brighter.
The consistency of the balm is lightweight, mostly non-sticky (it develops a slight tackiness after three to four hours), and almost gel-like when applied, then creamier as it wears. The formula is very comfortable to wear, somewhat moisturizing, and wears a solid three to four hours. I tried Nice & Simple, Rosy Romance, and Stay Warm for wear, and each wore four, four, and there hours respectively. They come in a squeeze-tube with a slanted-tip applicator, and they have the same vanilla scent as MAC glosses and lipsticks have, though this seemed a little stronger. They’re reminiscent of MAC’s Lip Gelee formula, only this is not as thick and wears a bit longer. They are only moisturizing so long as you wear them; about a half hour after it’s mostly faded away, I need to apply more balm.

Christine, do tou know if there are any chances of BareMinerals release the 5AM eyeliner for the regular line? I’ve been crazy for it since the first time I saw you using here! Sorry about the bad english, I’m Brazilian. =)
Not that I know of!
I didn’t plan on getting any of these, but the MA said to achieve the stunning red lips from the promotion pic, I would need to wear Rosy Romance over the Après Chick lipstick and use wine or vino liner. I did and ended up be exactly like the pic. So glad I bought it because I got the last one at my local counter and yeah, Christine gave them a A.
Wonder if I will go for it or pass my way… My lis are far paler than yours, almost skin tinted, I’m debatting if Pure & Tender will add a bit of color (that colour is really nice!), or if Rosy Romance would be better… They’re a bit expensive for lip balms!
I’m not inspired. I’m looking through my (small) gloss stash and Christmas haul. I have a lot of similar colors. I’ll have to pass on these, even if Rosy Romance looks worthy of a swatch test.
These are all pretty mediocre, except for maybe Stay Warm, but I was really hoping for more opaque colors, it’s a pass for me on these.
In person the tubes are so **small** for 20.00 each, the value is just not there. And I felt the product was only slightly effective with providing moisture.SKIP
0.33 fl. oz. is about double most lipglosses. I’d say a lot of lip balms are either 0.33 fl. oz. or 0.50 fl. oz. for higher-end lip balms. They don’t seem all that small to me, but for a moisturizing lip balm, I would look elsewhere. These are more like more moisturizing tinted glosses, IMO!
The Clarins ones are really nice!
stuff totally without interest IMO
I think I’d rather just get the MAC Ricky Martin Lip Conditioner because at least the money goes to a good cause…
Hello, Christine!!. I love your reviews because they’re a wonderful guideline when making my purchase lists for upcoming collections!:). I’d love to have your advice. See, I have got a couple MAC Tendertones and I love them to bits, and I was just wondering how would these compare to the Mineralize Lip Balms, as I have been thinking about purchasing a couple shades. What is your opinion?. *huggles*
I don’t think these are that much like Tendertones – the texture is different. Those had an almost Vaseline-ish kind of texture, but more refined, and these feel more like a gloss.
I seem to be in the minority here, but I actually like these! I would wear them as regular glosses, so I don’t really care about them being labeled as lip balms (though a bit added moisture is definitely a bonus). I prefer glosses to be sheer and I really can’t stand stickiness on my lips, I also really like the texture of lip gelees, so these seem like a nice replacement. Only downside is that I feel they are a bit overpriced for what they are.
These remind me of the lipglosses at Claire’s, but at least those are only a couple of bucks. The price on these really is too much, but MAC is probably counting on people picking these up when everything else in the collection sells out in a matter of days… Do these at least have SPF?
I’m all for moisturizing lip glosses but these have almost no color. If I want a similar effect I can wear my Jouer lip enhancer.
Wouldn’t it be heavenly if these were as opaque as the look in the tubes?
20$ for a lip balm!?!?!? i will never buy that!
I love these. Nice & Simple is perfection
I think I will stick with my tendertones. I have a couple of backups, and they last awhile. I love the feeling.
These are sold for £17 in the UK, equivalent of $27!
For a sparsely tinted lip gloss! No thanks.
