MAC Tartan Tale: Dazzleglass Cremes

MAC Tartan Tale Dazzleglass Cremes ($18.00 for 0.09 oz.) feature five new and limited edition shades ranging from sheer neutrals to more opaque red. Dazzleglasses Cremes have a thicker consistency but aren’t as sticky as lipglass. I do find that they have a slightly gritty texture, which becomes more noticeable as the gloss disappears and the glittery bits are left behind. They smell like vanilla.

The shades include: Passing Fancy (bright orange coral with soft pearl), Gone Romancin’ (mid-tone lavender with multi-dimensional pearl), Lightly Prancing (light peach with gold pearl), Radiant Jewels (dark sparkly magenta), and Soft Dazzle (mid-tone peach pink with gold pearl).

Their biggest downfall is how little product you get in each tube: a measly 0.09 oz. To put that into perspective, a normal MAC Lipglass is $14.50 and contains 0.17 oz. I like Dazzleglasses for their high shine, glossy look and very dazzling shimmer, but the pitiful amount drives me batty.

  • Passing Fancy is a soft, sheer coral-nude with white shimmer. This is the least shimmer-filled of the five. I don’t know how this translates to “bright orange coral,” though. It may look it in the tube, but on the lips, not the case. Smile would be the closest permanent dupe, though it has a bit more shimmer.
  • Gone Romancin’ is a semi-opaque lilac pink with lots of light lilac and white shimmer. This one is full of shimmer! It reminds me of Negligee lipglass or a more lilac Cultured. It’s a bit pinker than Via Veneto.
  • Lightly Prancing is a semi-sheer, milky peach nude with soft gold shimmer. It is reminiscent of Sublime Shine, though less gold shimmer. The closest permanent dupe would be Bare Necessity.
  • Radiant Jewels is a semi-opaque, deep fuchsia raspberry with fuchsia shimmer. It looks very much like Creme Allure — maybe just a touch darker, but they look very, very close to me. Love Alert would be the closest permanent dupe.
  • Soft Dazzle is a semi-sheer, milky pink-nude with gold shimmer. Yes, it looks incredibly similar to Lightly Prancing–it’s just a little pink. Moth to Flame would be the closest permanent dupe –it doesn’t have as much gold sparkle.

  • Product: 26/30
  • Value: 6/10
  • Ease of Use: 4/5
  • Packaging: 4/5

RECOMMENDATION: Gone Romancin’ is fun, and I think with the amount of lilac lip fans, it’ll go over well. The others are rather similar to past or present dazzleglasses/dazzleglass cremes, though.

I like Soft Dazzle…but your right the amount is really horrible compared to regular Lipglass. Plus the pricing is expensive :/ To buy or not to buy…

i see what your saying about the colors not being unique and already done. but they are a diff consistency. i actually like the dazzleglass creme formula better than dazzleglass, so i am so excited to see them come out with new colors in this formula. i hope they make dazzleglass cremes perm some time.

I pre ordered Passing Fancy but I might swap that our for Gone Romancin’ and get Courting Lilac too.

Thank you so much for you swatches! They really help a girl out.

I totally agree with your assessment. They keep releasing new Dazzleglasses that are almost identical to the ones people already own. For example, Euro Beat looks a lot like Smile, Jingle Jangle looks identical to Steppin’ Out, and Sparklicious is very similar to Baby Sparks. Gone Romancin’ is the only one that looks interesting at all. At least they didn’t raise the prices on Dazzleglasses. They’re expensive enough as is.

CHRISTINE, i must say i lovee you & this blog.. i wasn’t gonna buy anything from this collection. & then for some reason i end up making a list of 8 thingss.. your reviews and swatches knocked it down to 3 times (gone romancin – her blooming cheek- black swan eyeliner) — you saved me some major money! 🙂 thanks & i’m praying you win that blog contest (i already voted)!

Christine,
Thank you so much for reviewing all the new MAC products before the launch because this gives me the chance to see the colors of the products in their true fashion. One of the major downfalls of the MAC website in my opinion is that their representation of the absolutely gorgeous pigmentation of their products is horrible! The way they look on the site and in real life is a MAJOR difference, even without swatching!!
I really appreciate your reviews because you save me A LOT of money every time MAC has a really huge haul like this.

Thanks for all you do!!!

At first look, I think the BE Buxom glosses have colours that dupe all of these. I can think of Princess v. Gone Romancin’… there must be others. And those have, like, .18oz to them, for anybody who wants comparisons.

The lilac color looks beautiful but Radiant Jewels is a let down, it looks way too sheer when actually applied which is sad to me because I really love that type of color =(

I have never been a fan of Dazzleglass Cremes…I really dislike the formula. When I saw “Raidant Jewels” at the preview party last week however, I thought maybe it would be worth it to try it one more time for the sake of a gorgeous magenta gloss…now seeing your swatches though, it doesn’t really seem that incredible :/

Janice Avatar

I was looking for swatches of these everywhere today, and learned that I shouldn’t take your extremely helpful swatching methods for granted!! (On the skin, on the lips, on lips with full face… SO helpful!)

Dawn Avatar

I love the look of Gone Romancin’, but the other colours are quite disappointing on compared to the colour in the tube. I’m in two minds now whether to get Gone Romancin’, now I realise how little you get for your money.

Thanks for the review

I can’t wait to get Gone Romancin’ today! It’s so0o beautiful and not something I have anything even close to when it comes to my personal collection already. I will say on my more cherry pigmented lips, the shimmery white in GR is toned down a bit.

Nadia Avatar

I’ve never bought any dazzleglasses because of the ridiculous quantity vs price ratio. They just cannot be that great to justify buying them over any of MAC’s other lip glasses. Same with Cremesheens…I think you also get very little product with those.

Courtney Avatar

The colors don’t really grab me, but I really liked Lightly Prancing because it’s a warm nude that I can just toss on when I need some gloss and it’ll go with anything. Gold sparkle is always flattering.

Michelle Avatar

I bought Soft Dazzle when it it was released before, and it looks great over nude lipsticks. Although, I had only used it like 4 times and the bottle looked almost empty. They need to put more product in there!
I really love the Gone Romancin’ color — just wish it wasn’t so pricey for so little product.

Naheeda Avatar

I’m not fan of colurful – orange or purple or too bright red.
I like the natural look.

Really like Lightly Prancing & Soft Dazzle. Will check & try on at the store!

i just bought Gone Romancin’ to wear over Courting Lilac and it totally makes the cool-toned lilac in the lipstick stand out. gorgeous combination! I can’t wait to wear the look! It’s a very beautiful winter look.

Radiant Jewels reminds me of Hot House lipglass from Venomous Villains.
