MAC Kindergarten Red Blush Ombre Review, Photos, Swatches
MAC Kindergarten Red Blush Ombre
MAC Kindergarten Red Blush Ombre ($32.00 for 0.35 oz.) is described as a “crimson into pale nude.” It’s a medium pink with subtle cool undertones and a satin finish. In the pan, it looks like it fades from a light beige to a rosy pink. Guerlain Angelic Radiance (LE, $53.00) is lighter. LORAC Underrated (LE) is cooler-toned, more matte. MAC Modest Blush (LE, $27.00) is lighter. MAC Pink Sprinkles (LE, $21.00) is lighter. MAC Sunset Beach (LE, $30.00) is darker, cooler-toned. Tarte Fearless (P, $26.00) is darker, brighter. NYX Rose Garden (P, $5.00) is slightly warmer. Chanel Rose Initiale (P, $45.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
The texture of the blush is soft, smooth, but thin, so it ended up having more buildable coverage than really intense pigmentation that was, at most, semi-opaque. I just went back into the archives, and the blush ombre formula was originally described as a “medium-buildable coverage” product. It doesn’t adhere as well to bare skin if it’s on the drier side (my arm is drier than my face) and can look a little powdery initially. Once it gets blended and buffed into the skin, the satin finish really comes forward and gives a light sheen that’s natural but not shimmery or shiny. As it is only semi-opaque at most, it pulls warmer on me, but I would expect those with cooler undertones would see this appear slightly cooler-toned instead. On me, the blush wore well for seven and a half hours before fading.
This will release January 29th online and February 5th at counters and stores.

Just want to have it ’cause of the name 😀
🙂
Was hoping for a little more intensity than this, although it’s still an extremely pretty colour on you. I’m getting kind of distracted by how much I like that lipglass.
Yeah, apparently when they first rolled out, MAC described them as “medium-buildable coverage,” so there’s that!
The packaging is gorgeous!
Glad ya liked it!
Its amazing how the ombre effect shows up in your photo, its warm near your eyes and cooler at your cheeks. Its very flattering on you.
Thanks, Toya!
I like the blush on your cheeks! I like the color and prefer my blushes to be on sheerer side, but it has to stick well to my cheeks, so this is going to be a skip. And for $ 32, it should apply more smoothly. I can see it clinging to some dry spots on your arm, so if you have dry cheeks, this is not going to look good.
Definitely not the most forgiving on dry skin!
So, all of the ombre blushes in this line essentially would do the same(stick on dry spots) I am assuming,is that correct Christine?
Ripe Peach isn’t powdery like this one! 🙂
Okay. thanks! Given you comment regarding the MUG dupe being better at a way better price point and my long wish list of high performing blushes that are permanent, I have decided to let this one pass,”on, on to the next one” 🙂
I’m really digging the packaging. The blush is alright too, I guess 😀 hehe
Yay!
It’s nice! $32 is too steep for me for MAC though.
Totally understand! 🙂
Mine mine mine!
Enjoy, Erin!
What a great name! As a pale person, the lightness doesn’t bother me. Killer packaging.
Do you think you’ll get it?
I want to, and I thought about it. But…I’m on low buy, and I have Pink Sprinkles. I regretfully decided to pass.
Was really hoping it would be a little lighter… so beautiful but I’m afraid I’ll never wear it like both my Mac Simpson blushes.. who am I kidding I need to see this in my blush collection! !!!
Hopefully you’ll wear it!
I love the name, and it’s gorgeous in the pan, but it looks like one of those shades that would just make me look wind-/sunburned…
Bummer!
Of it was the one I was most excited about after reading the description, LOL! I think if it were a “truer” red I could pull ot off, but it looks *exactly* like the color my face turns after a day of skiing…
Wow, this really does look a lot better on than swatched. I was really nervous after seeing the sneak peek that it was going to be a patchy, powdery mess. It looks great ON you though! I’m not sure if I’ll pick it up or not… I guess it depends on how quickly it sells out. These ombre ones usually go FAST!!
I bet they will sell quickly!
I need a new blush and I love the packaging.
SOLD
Woohoo!!
Ok, not at all like the promo shots. lol
I like this shade, but it’s not really worth $39 CAN to me. It’d ranter spend that on MSF instead. 😉
I think blush has come a long ways since these initially released that somehow they’re not quite as ooh-la-la now.
Totally true! Essence blushes even out preform these ones. 😉
I was hoping this would be a little darker, more vibrant and, um, red. MAC is so weird with these names and descriptions sometimes lol. It’s still a pretty blush though
LOL! Yes, definitely not… red.
That’s a very pretty blush on you Christine. But I think it is too pinkish for me. However I think it will look gorgeous on warmer complexions.
Thank you, Genevieve!
So glad you posted a shot with the ingredients listing – I can stop lusting after these ombre blushes now as I’m allergic to something in them (rose hips). Thank you!
Oh, that is too bad, but I’m glad you were able to find out sooner rather than later!
The packaging reminds me of playing cards, somehow! 🙂 I like this one better in the pan – but I’m surprised how orange/warm it goes on! It looks lovely on you, but between the swatch and the full face pic, I got confused for a second, LOL!
Also: those earrings <3
I can kind of see why they would!
Ohhh! This is beautiful!! The name is adorable but the colour is so so unique and unlike anything I own!
That’s awesome!
Ohhh! I like the packaging, but the color isn’t that special. But I like the packaging so much that I kind of want to buy it haha. Thanks for the awesome pictures as always
My pleasure, Christina!
Has anyone else noticed how the actual product shades differ way too much from the promotional images? From what I saw I was expecting a really vibrant contrast in the gradient, but your pictures (which are always truthful) are breaking my heart.
Oh well, my wallet is happy. I’m not a big fan of the packaging, anyway. The design is awesome but the plastic looks kind of cheap. Maybe my eyes are just tired from driving!
It is sadly quite common – promo photos not matching reality!
I love the designs/prints on the packaging, but the matte white throws me off – feels cheap to me.
When I read Kindergarten Red Blush, I got so excited and was expecting something fairly intense. Unfortunately, I see this as a pretty basic easily dupable rosy pink blush. I’m not seeing the red. Sad.
Definitely not RED! red.
Prett bluehy! Christine, what are you wearing on your lips?? I love the color!
Barbecue Lipglass!
Beautiful! I think I know what my next MAC purchase will be, besides Viva Glam Miley!
It has such a lovely name… I liked the way you described the formula but I like pigmented blushes more as the ones with buildable coverage doesn’t work well for me! 😛
Totally understand 🙂
This looks identical to Estee Lauder pure color blush in #14 Plush Petal Satin. I picked this color up at the CCO a few years ago.
Good to know!
These remind me of Essence Blush Up blushes. I have both and they are a very similar idea. They are also under £5 over in the UK.
Nice!
I like the Peach version better. The ombre effect still rocks though.
The peach is more forgiving on the skin!
.035 oz?
0.35 oz, sorry! Wow, yesterday was a record day for being a complete, bumbling moron. I’m so sorry for all of these mistakes throughout the day – talk about unprofessional.
are these ombre blushes dupes to the proenza schouler for mac collection?
Nope!
It looks so pretty, just like a sunset for your cheeks 🙂
Reminds me of Estee Lauder Pink Nuance!
