Jupiter

MAC Jupiter Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a medium-dark brown with warm, reddish undertones and a fine, golden sheen. It had semi-sheer pigmentation that was buildable to medium coverage. The lipstick felt smooth with some slip, so it was comfortable to apply and did not drag. The distribution of shimmer could have been slightly better, though, and I think that some of the unevenness is camouflaged by the mid-tone nature of the shade (blended in more with my natural lip color). It wore well for three and a half hours on me and was neither drying nor hydrating.

The Metallic Lips collection features a new (and limited edition!) finish, Metallic, which is supposed to be “rich colour [that] melds with smooth pearlized chrome.” The range of shades is described as “vibrant, intense, [and] on-trend.” The coverage varied from shade to shade–anywhere from semi-sheer to semi-opaque–but many shades look like they’re more suitable for a subtle look or for layering on top of another lip product to add a more shimmery finish. The majority of shades featured finer shimmer, which translated to a more foiled, reflective look, but a few had some shimmer. The wear was between three and five hours, depending on the shade, and most shades had some slip but were not slippery overall, so they were comfortable to wear but not hard to maintain. They were vanilla-scented but have no discernible taste.

Formula Overview

$19.00/0.1 oz. - $190.00 Per Ounce

MAC Lipstick comes in a variety of finishes, and the pigmentation and wear tend to be dependent on the finish. The sheer finishes, like Lustres, tend to wear for only a couple of hours and have sheer coverage (as designed) and are non-drying.

Some of the original Matte shades have a stiffer, drier formula, while newer ones have a more velvety, silicone-feel to them, and the latter are creamier, more comfortable to wear, and easier to apply, but most Matte shades are quite pigmented and long-wearing, though some are drying.

The Amplified and Satin finishes tend to have good pigmentation, lightly creamy to moderately creamy consistencies with a bit of shine, and moderate to long wear with deeper, richer shades wearing longer. The Frost and Metallic finishes have the most variance between shades with coverage ranging from semi-sheer to opaque with average wear and non-drying to slightly drying formulas. All MAC lipsticks are vanilla-scented but have no discernible taste.

Modern Midas

MAC Modern Midas Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a medium brown with warm, golden undertones and pink and gold pearl. It had sheer color coverage that applied fairly evenly, though I wish it had been a bit more buildable as the shimmer was quite fine that it could easily get lost layered over anything that had more slip than a matte (or was thicker/denser in texture). The lipstick was thinner and felt more like Lustre to me. It lasted for just over two and a half hours and was non-drying.

Act So Cool

MAC Act So Cool Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.10 oz.) is deep, reddish brown with fine gold, copper, and almost greenish-gold pearl. It had semi-opaque color payoff, which was somewhat buildable beyond that. The texture had moderate slip, and with the deeper color, there was slight patchiness that was visible and some lines where I could see the color had deepened there. This shade wore well for four and a half hours and was lightly hydrating.

Somebody should do a look using all “Modern” stuff: ABH Modern Renaissance palette, MAC Modern Midas lipstick, EL Modern Mercury highlighter, EcoTools Modern Romance brush set ?

Why did MAC describe these as having vibrant, intense, and rich color if they are sheer?!?Did they really need to release more sheer metallic shades.

These colors are pretty, but the market is so over-saturated with great lippies, seems like there’s not much point in releasing anything that scores less than an A, unless it’s a unique color that’s hard to dupe

I thought all 3 looked great on you Christine. Although all 3 swatched brown they all pulled reddish on you but in a lovely way. Because they look so different on compared to the swatches I’m guessing your own lip color plays big here. Best to try these at the MAC counter!

These look gorgeous on you Christine! I have been waiting years for Mac to launch something similar to the Mac dazzle lipsticks that I love so much! These seem like they may be very similar to the dazzles!
