MAC Hibiscus Kiss Powder Blush Duo Review, Photos, & Swatches

MAC Hibiscus Kiss Powder Blush Duo ($26.00 for 0.37 oz.) is described as a “cool coral blush and matte neutral bronze duo.”  I’m presently wearing both (bronzer more as a contour, the blush as a blush), and it’s been six hours–the wear still seems just fine, and I’ll be sure to update later today after I’ve wrapped up testing (most MAC powders last between seven and nine hours, usually somewhere in the middle).

Hibiscus Kiss Bronzer is described as a “matte neutral bronze.” It’s a medium-dark tan with warm, yellow-orange undertones and a matte finish. It had good, buildable color payoff with a soft, smooth texture that didn’t look powdery applied. Clarins Splendours is darker, redder-orange in tone. Burberry Copper Glow is a touch lighter, less brown. MAC Soft Sand is slightly cooler-toned. Dior Coral Glow Bronzer is lighter. Burberry Summer Glow is darker and more shimmery. See comparison swatches.

Hibiscus Kiss Blush is a softly warmed-up, coral-pink with a satiny sheen. The color seemed rather poor in the pan, but it was buildable and with enough layering, it should show up (somewhat) on darker complexions (I’m medium or NC30 for reference). The texture felt a little dry and stiff, so when I really jammed my brush at the powder to dislodge more product, that was when I was able to get the payoff needed to show up on my skin tone. MAC Royal Sunset is lighter. Edward Bess Secret Affair is warmer, less pink. theBalm Don’t You Want Me is similar. theBalm Frat Boy is also similar. NARS Amour is slightly pinker/darker. MAC Fleet Fast is warmer and more shimmery. MAC Flaming Chic is pinker. Dior Pink Glow Blush is warmer. Chanel Fleur de Lotus is more shimmery. See comparison swatches.

The RiRi Hearts MAC summer collection will launch June 18th at noon EST exclusively online for North America; June 20th exclusively online for international.

I don’t like the bronzer whatsoever, and actually find it quite hideous, but perhaps it is intended for darker skintones. Fair enough. Still, it begs the question why the blush isn’t equally pigmented and yet you needed to layer it for NC30 skin. The duo does not pair or makes no sense to me.

i really wish mac would come up with more creative ideas ! i mean the hibiscus was already used with i think to the beach collection. and sushi kiss was used in this past all about orange collection. why dont they use some names from rihannas prev and current cds ?? regardless im gonna get it and 2 lipsticks from this collection , hopefully online when it posts , but still …. come on mac !!

Just a note on theBalm’s “Fratboy” and “Don’t You Want Me” blushes, since you’ve used them as reference in a few reviews — on the back of the Balm Jovi palette, the packaging says that Don’t You Want Me is just Fratboy renamed. They’re the same blush.

Nah, I’ll pass on this one. It kinda sorta reminds me of my IT Cosmetics Vitality Face Disc (though the blush is more shimmery and it comes with a GORGEOUS highlighter, as well). Too bad there is yet another dud of a blusher/bronzer/cheek powder from a MAC collection :/

Hey Christine.
I’d like to know what foundation are you wearing in this pic?
Also how did u prep your face (what moisturizer, what eye creams, serum, etc) and did you set your foundation with powder? If so, which one?
I just love the way it looks!!! Always nice

Hi Nancy,

I believe this is Giorgio Armani Maestro. I don’t use any eye creams or serums – I just use a moisturizer with SPF in the morning (whatever I happen to be testing). I usually use Guerlain’s Meteorites to set (Mythic or Wulong)! Hope that helps!

whoa! good thing my order didnt go through because I would have been sending this right back! I should have looked here first. I knew you would have the scoop!

Hey Christine,

Thanks so much for swatching these! I do have one question. Hopefully, it’s not a silly one, but have you tried applying the blush and bronzer together as one? Is it that even politically correct to do and if it is, do you think it would look okay that way?

I ended up with this only because of the debacle on release day that made me have to keep starting over after getting to the payment portion. I finally ended up clicking “I Want It All” to see if that helped the process…I honestly had no desire for this to begin with and nothing about this review has changed my mind. Back it goes for sure!

I just got my hibiscus kiss today. I am of a tanned complexion and it looks amazing on me not orange at all. It creates a very natural bronze look and it didn’t make me look super brown like bronzers others do. I definitely recommend this for anyone of a tanned complexion.

Ugh, I wish the bronzer wasn’t so terribly orange and warm :((. Christine, do you think NC20 skin tone can wear this without it looking super orange?
