MAC Gumdrop Oh Sweetie Lipcolour

Gumdrop

MAC Gumdrop Oh Sweetie Lipcolour ($17.50 for 0.10 oz.) is a bright, medium pinky-red with subtle, warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had good color coverage in a single layer with a smooth, lightweight, and moderately creamy texture that had noticeable slip but eventually “set” (after nearly two hours) to a reflective sheen that was more adhered to the lips and did not slide around. The color applied evenly and wore well for six hours on me, and the formula was neither drying nor hydrating. The scent was like a fizzy, fruit punch–sweet and biting–and had a very faint sweetness when I tried to taste it.

Formula Overview

$17.50/0.1 oz. - $175.00 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have "lasting colour" for "eight hour" wear that's "hydrating" and "non-feathering" that comes in "frosted opaque hues." There are 15 shades in the range, and each one has its own distinct scent--tied to its name--and most of the scents were pretty dead-on but I could see those with more sophisticated noses finding some scents a little cloying or synthetic. I didn't notice the scents lingering for long after I applied the respective shade, and I didn't notice any tastes. The coverage ranged from semi-opaque to opaque, while the application was inconsistent, and I think it'll come down to how one wants to wear a particular shade (layered or alone) whether the application pitfalls (settling into lip lines, unevenness) of some shades will be deal-breakers.

The finish on most shades was very shiny and metallic with an initial glossiness that took an hour to three to wear down; most shades felt like a lipstick and gloss hybrid but I can see why MAC has it listed as a lipstick. Once the glossiness goes away, the remaining color and finish look a lot more like a lipstick than a gloss, and it felt clingier (some more than others) and seemed to adhere better. The texture is lightweight, smooth, and mostly non-sticky, so there was more slip and creaminess compared to something like Lipglass, and it didn't have the dry down of a Retro Matte Lipcolour.

They definitely did not wear for eight hours--that claim felt really over-the-top to me--and most shades lasted between four and six hours with a few deviating from that range. There's enough product in an application that a good amount of color comes through after drinking a coffee or glass of water (despite transfer). They were lightly hydrating at best but some seemed more non-drying over time. One upside was that getting colors in this finish (metallic/pearl with some shine) and opacity level (even when they weren't opaque) made them less dupable, though I looked for dupes across lipstick and gloss options.

MAC Strawberry Torte Oh Sweetie Lipcolour

Strawberry Torte

MAC Strawberry Torte Oh Sweetie Lipcolour ($17.50 for 0.10 oz.) is a rich, ruby red with neutral-to-cool undertones and a soft pearl sheen. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that applied evenly on my lips, but the texture was more fluid than other shades, which gave it a touch more weight (though not at all heavy) and made it seem over-pigmented as the doe-foot applicator had more product than I really needed for one, even layer on my upper and lower lips. There was a faint amount of product in my deeper lip lines, but it wasn’t noticeable from a normal distance. After two hours, it “set” and felt a lot less creamy and didn’t slide around any more, which is why I think the wear ended up being better than a true gloss formula would have been, but it did feel a little clingy to me after that point.

The color stayed on well for six and a half hours, left a faint stain behind, and was non-drying. It smelled very sweet and creamy, like strawberry milk or ice cream, and was quite a potent scent that lingered more noticeably after application compared to most of the other shades. There was a very faint sweetness by taste.

Have you been craving any sweets while testing this collection? xD

Overall I’m very pleased with how these have been performing! Based on their performance, I would like to pick up Gumdrop, Raspberry Cream, and Death by Chocolate and I am looking forward to (with fingers crossed) the review for Creamy Peach Pie!

The main problem I have with Purple Panna Cotta is that after an hour or so it made me lips look very wrinkly and old, and the color had lost its “oomph.”

But I can’t help being so attracted to this line for some reason. These two shades are beautiful, especially Strawberry Torte. I want to get it, but I’m afraid of it doing the same thing as Purple Panna Cotta. Is this fear justified?

Gumdrop is divine! So is Strawberry Torte!
Well, I am giving myself a big kick in the butt for not asking you about how early one living in the neighborhood might get an overnight shipment from MAC, because I presumptuously went and had my package diverted and held at UPS store to avoid having any melting of lipsticks. But I don’t feel like going out in this mess today. ?

This is good to know for future reference, because my usual UPS delivery man has been showing up here earlier (12 noon – 2:30 p.m.) in recent months than previously (6:30 – 7:30 p.m.). That one lipstick I received that had melted horribly, Royally Riotous, arrived around 7:30 p.m., perhaps these would have been fine, but ever since that one isolated incident, I worry when it’s this hot outside. I also worry about “porch pirates”. That happened to my neighbor who lives across from me.

Again, I love these shades but the formula doesn’t sound comfortable to wear. I would rather use a gloss than something that gets gunky around my lip line. I will stick with my L’Oreal Shines. These shades are totally gorgeous on you, Christine. If I end up buying any it will be because they look so incredible on you. I am so much older with lots of lip lines so won’t be nearly so flattering.
