The Sultry Season: MAC Explicit Lipglass

MAC Explicit Lipglass ($14.50 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is a sheer taupe-brown kind of lipgloss.  It’s gray, it’s taupe, it’s the grayest mauve.    I think Explicit is such an interesting shade, and it works really well layered over darker, vampier shades for some shimmer and glossiness while not reducing the boldness of the lipstick itself.  Worn alone, it darkens my natural lip color just a touch while adding a ton of taupe and light brown shimmer on lips while the base color is rather sheer.  Like all MAC lipglasses, it is one of the stickier glosses on the market and has a vanilla scent.

Is this the right brown for you? Would you wear it?

The Sultry Season is a series of posts featuring deep, rich shades of brown, berry, plum, and wine lipsticks and lipglosses — just right for autumn — that runs through October 2010.

I love that you review so many colors during the seasons themes that I’ve always wondered what they really look like! Since the MAC swatches on the website are so off, and really any make-up website usually is, these are always helpful and interesting!

I used to wear this EVERYDAY! I wore it over Odyssey Lipstick and loved it, but I branched out and totally forgot my love for this lipglass…may have to purchase it again.

I’ve been looking at Explicit (and Chai) every time I pass by the lipglasses in MAC. Ha ha. It’s a really interesting color in the tube, but I don’t like silver-y shimmer, so it’s a pass.

i’m not getting this too much. just looks like a clear gloss with sparkles….

Could you maybe do a look with a vampy berry shade and this on top per your post? I’d like to see how that’d look!

I wonder, Christine did you find this to be paticularly frosty? It looks like it in the photo of the product, not so much on your I thought it could be the angle? what did you think?

It’s really, really shimmery. I don’t know if I’d say frosty so much as packed full of shimmer – but I could see someone calling it frosty.

Wow I’m NC 50 or so and it looks super silvery on me. I’m pretty much over the shade (reminds me of the silver version of Oh Baby). I like it on you though!
