MAC Divine Night Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, Swatches

MAC Divine Night Lipstick
MAC Divine Night Lipsticks

MAC Divine Night Lipstick ($16.50 for 0.10 oz.) includes five new and limited edition shades just in time for the holidays. I’ll have full reviews, complete with wear times and ratings, when I’ve finished testing. In the meanwhile, here are photos and swatches to get you started. The color collection is available online now, and it will release in-stores on October 17th.

Exclusive Event is described as a “taupe brown [with a Satin finish].” It’s a light-medium, cool-toned brown with hints of gray and a subtle sheen. It had opaque color coverage, was lightly creamy, and fairly easy to apply for an even, smooth result. It wore well for four and a half hours, and it was neither drying nor hydrating.  MAC Nude (LE, $15.00) is much darker, browner, and rosier. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Sebastian (P, $18.00) is grayer, cooler-toned. MAC Naturally Eccentric (LE, $15.00) is lighter. MAC Growing Trend (LE, $15.00) is a touch lighter. See comparison swatches.

Flair for Finery is described as a “cool pink nude [with a Lustre finish].” It’s a light-medium pink with subtle cool undertones. It seems sheer when swatched, but it is more semi-opaque on lips; it lightens and brightens but has some translucency so the natural lip color will come through. It lasted two and a half hours on me, and it was somewhat drying during that time (typical of my experience with Lustres).  MAC Vivid Image (LE, $15.00) is more opaque, lighter. NARS Paimpol (P, $25.00) is iridescent. MAC Beauty (LE, $15.00) is lighter. MAC You’re Perfect Already (LE, $18.00) is similar. MAC Dreaminess (P, $22.00) is warmer. Guerlain Rose Innocent (LE, $49.50) is bluer-based. Chanel Candeur (P, $34.00) is similar. See comparison swatches.

Prepare for Pleasure is described as a “clean magenta red [with a Cremesheen finish].” It’s a pinky-red with cool, blue undertones and a soft sheen. On my lips, it turns redder (still a cool-toned, bluish red, just not so pink) and has mostly opaque color coverage–you can see a faint outline of my lip freckle. It applied evenly and easily. It wore well for five hours and left a slight stain behind, but it was a smidgen drying (this is typical for me with Cremesheen finishes, so if you have the opposite, bump up the rating for yourself). Guerlain Provocative (863) (LE, $49.50) is brighter, pinker. Guerlain Illusion (660) (LE, $35.00) is pinker. MAC Relentlessly Red (P, $15.00) is matte. Urban Decay Catfight (P, $22.00) is pinker. NARS Luxembourg (P, $25.00) is similar. MAC Love Goddess (LE, $15.00) is similar–a touch pinker on me. Guerlain Calligraphy #5 (LE) is more matte. Dior Marilyn (LE, $36.00) is very similar. Buxom Scoundrel (P, $21.00) is redder. See comparison swatches.

Private Party is described as a “dirty plum mauve [with a Satin finish].” It’s a muted, medium-dark plum with subtle, cool pink tones and a satin sheen. It had opaque color coverage, and the consistency was lightly creamy so it glided onto lips without pulling or tugging but didn’t slide around. It wore well for just over four and a half hours, and it was lightly hydrating while worn. Givenchy Violine Precieux (312) (LE, $36.00) is warmer. NARS La Paz (LE, $26.00) is shimmery, slightly purpler. Too Faced So Berry Sexy (P, $21.00 is brighter. NARS Never Say Never (P, $25.00) is more matte. MAC Positively Dashing (P, $18.00)is pinker. MAC Deliciously Forbidden (LE, $16.00) is also a bit pinker. MAC Craving (P, $15.00) is a touch pinker but similar. Guerlain Bee (LE, $49.50) is darker. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lydia (P, $18.00) is lighter. See comparison swatches.

You’ve Got It is described as a “pink undertone with gold frost [with a Frost finish].” It’s a pale beige with gold iridescent shimmer. It’s more like a layering shade than something worn on its own, as the consistency is thin, a little dry, and it skipped a bit on the lips. It just felt dry having it on for a couple of minutes, but I think it might work well underneath gloss or the like. It had sheer color coverage. When I wore it, the shade lasted about two hours, and it was drying.  MAC Warm Companion (LE, $15.00) is slightly more beige. MAC Secret Lover (LE, $15.00) had a cooler pink tone.MAC Ruffian Gold (LE, $15.00) is more shimmery, less frosted. See comparison swatches.

I tried but I just couldn’t like any of them. Exclusive event is too brownish and Flair for finery is too sheer. I’m not a fan of the magenta/cherry-red tones from Prepare to Pleasure nor the plum mauve from Private Party. And I simply hate metallic, iridescent shimmery lipsticks such as You’ve got it.

divinem1 (Melissa) Avatar

I ordered 3 of these. Have a feeling I’ll be sending back at least 2 if not all. That last one is hideous. Disco days are dead. Please don’t exhume frost lipstick!

layla Avatar

you should….im gonna wear my pp lipstick with my beet liner or vino..to make it pop….nc42 for ref. ..also the frost one….im gonna put my sugar rimmed dazzle glass over it for a holiday bounce! you gotta make your own look with these..lol!

Jane Avatar

Prepare for Pleasure looks like a good color dupe for one of the Manna Kadar lipglosses (except PfP isn’t shiny.) Also, I’m having trouble logging into MyTemptalia, it’s probably my computer, but I just wanted to let you know 🙂

layla Avatar

i heard that EE l/s is more grey on ppl…so far..the run down…i mean corpse looking gray…i passed on it…cause it looks like cherish to me. lol!

Lizzi Avatar

I placed orders for Prepare For Pleasure and Flair For Finery yesterday. No one had swatches up yet so I had to order blindly. I think Flair For Finery will be returned, it’s so sheer and pale. But PFP is beautiful, glad I got that.

layla Avatar

if your skin tone is darker than nc42-43….EE…l/s is gonna just blend in with your skin….im nc42 and it made me look dead..or blah…cause its so doo doo brown….riri nude has more pink in it on me so im glad i got 2x of those…but i passed on that one..ewww.

Neysa Avatar

hmmm I dont’t know my shade in MAC foundation….but from some girls I’ve seen from comparison I may be like NW43.. If anything I’ll just use a darker lipliner and make it work! I still plan on getting riri nude, waiting for restock!

Lenora Avatar

As much as I hate to say this, I’m gonna pass on the lipsticks. Nothing moves me. Maybe there’s something else I’ll like in this collection.

Erika Avatar

Kind of disappointed in this collection, to be honest. The lipsticks looked so much better in the tube. Sad. 🙁

I’m still quite interested in the Prepare for Pleasure and Private Party lipsticks, though, but I’m curious… will Prepare for Pleasure be worth it if I already have Relentlessly Red? And Private Party, if I already have NARS Never Say Never (although frankly, I don’t think the answer to this second question wouldn’t make much difference to my decision since I absolutely love Never Say Never on me and I’d love to have one in satin finish, lol)..?

Christine Avatar

It just depends if you really want a SUPER matte finish or not. Prepare for Pleasure no doubt will lose shine over time and *become* more matte but the Retro Matte is a very flat matte. I think PP is a little more different than Never Say Never so it wouldn’t be as redundant.

When I think about similar shades, here’s my thought process:

– shade I wear 32897243 times a year – doesn’t matter, similar ones are welcome, I’ll use ’em
– shade I wear once a year – no, similar shades won’t get worn any more often!

Your so right Christina! I think the same way. Cant get enough of a color if i use a shade of that color. I love Mac! I bought a few things in this collection blindly. There on there way. Now that I saw your swatches im beyond excited! They look gorgeous on you. I love loveee your site! You are my go to always.

TheOne&Only Avatar

Hi Christine! I bought PP , Pleasure, all the Msf’s, and the Pleasure Lipglass. Lovvvvvvvve your reviews and swatches! Cant thank you pretty lady enough.

Christine Avatar

Hey Jackie!

Super shimmery – so if you love shimmer, metallic finishes and the like, you may be pleased – and you have to love the mineralize formula, of course. I’m not a huge fan of mineralized products because they just don’t wear long or well on me (a lot of fading!) and as I get older, the less give I have on anything that emphasizes skin imperfections. I like the lipsticks the most, but MAC is most consistent on their lipsticks compared to everything else!

Mary Avatar

Thanks so much for the swatches 😀 I was able to purchase Private Party and I have no regrets looking at the swatch. I have always wanted Craving so this will do.

abigailod Avatar

I’m really liking Private Party on you, Christine! ★ And of course it’s the first one sold out online!

Prepare for Pleasure does look redder on you than Relentlessly Red. I hope the magenta in it shows on me somehow.

Lisa J Avatar

Well, I was late to the lipstick party (again!) for this collection and they appear to be sold out now on the website. I really like Prepare for Pleasure and Private Party, but honestly, looking at the swatches I believe I already have several lipsticks that are similar. You’ve Got It is an interesting color and one I would’ve liked to pick up, but not necessarily a must have for me. Now I don’t feel so bummed!! I did pick up an MSF, a couple of eyeshadows and a blush from this collection, so I think I did well. 😉

Thanks for the awesome work you’re doing to get these reviews out Christine!! It’s much appreciated, as always. <333

Ricci Avatar

I bought Prepare for Pleasure and I really love it! I think its a unique red personally. I also bought Talk of the Town blush, But I might return it because it is sooooo shimmery!

divinem1 (Melissa) Avatar

I’m perplexed, Christine, by the difference in the lipstick the model is wearing vs. your swatches. They don’t match. Is it perhaps because she’s wearing a Cremesheen glass over the Private Party l/s? That color (on the model) is MY color, but the swatches look totally diff.

Your thoughts?

Alison Avatar

As much as I want to love these I don’t. I think I will be looking for another brand for lipstick and gloss. The price MAC is charging is getting to be ridiculous. I love how many shades they offer but color selection is just one part of the equation as far as I am concerned. I used to always buy something if not most of the items from each MAC collection but not lately. 🙁

Thanks for spending so much to buy and review this collection for your readers, Christine! You are much appreciated. 🙂

Laura Avatar

I just swatched them and Private Party is much darker than Mauvy Night. It’s both more brown and more plum. However, they would be on the same paint sample strip at the hardware store – similar tones.

Sabrina Avatar

Hi Christine, how similar is exclusive event to MAC’s blankety lipstick? i haven’t got blankety either but i’m just wondering whether its worth buying both exclusive event and blankety, and which would work better on an a light olive skin tone?

Thanks!

Menna Avatar

Hi Christine!

I value your opinion too much haha and I need your help! We don’t get a lot of MAC products where I’m from so I have to get them from abroad. I was wondering if you could tell me what products from this collection are worth it, since I do end up paying quite a lot? I also plan on picking up a few other things from there so I don’t want to end up paying too much overall if I add items from this collection:)
Someone will be picking these up for me, so I’ll have to pick ‘blindly’ so any help would be much appreciated!

And thank you so much!

xx

Menna Avatar

I think I’ll just skip this collection altogether! Can you suggest a few must have items from MAC, though? I’m putting together a starter kit 🙂

Again, thank you so much for taking the time to help!

private party is NICE!!! its literally a nice darker dirty purple color, I paired it up with fashion boost lip liner but I know I can use so many others with this lipstick!… I think I might go get another one to have as back up!!! =). Truly Love it girls!! and that’s all I got from this collection.

Michaela Avatar

I picked Prepare for Pleasure after I saw your post! I’m surprised they still had it in stock at my MAC counter, usually the holiday LE’s sell out like crazy. My mom laughed when I told her the name of it:)

Jan Avatar

Did you know that your photos of your lips are being used on Ebay to sell this lipstick? Kinda hard to miss that freckle on the lip. And I double checked and saw it was the same photo.

saf Avatar

Hi Christine i already have Mac Craving which looks more pink than plum on my pigmented lips… In your professional opinion would it be worth me getting Private Party or do you think they will look too similar to justify the £16.50?

Keneshia Avatar

Christine do you have an extra exclusive event lipstick that you want to sell or do you know of any other places that might have it? I’ve been searching high and low for this lipstick.
