MAC Cote d'Amour, Set to Sizzle, & Wham Lipsticks Reviews & Swatches

MAC Cote d'Amour Lipstick

Cote d'Amour

MAC Cote d’Amour Lipstick ($20.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a brighter, raspberry pink with subtle, cool undertones and a natural sheen with very, very faint pearl–the kind that adds luminosity but not overt shimmer.

The consistency was lightly emollient, wet without being too slippery, and felt lightweight, which made it comfortable to apply in a single layer as it didn’t drag or tug on my lips. It had good color coverage that could be built up to full coverage. The color stayed on nicely for five hours and felt lightly hydrating over time.

MAC Lipstick comes in a variety of finishes, and the pigmentation and wear tend to be dependent on the finish. The sheer finishes, like Lustres, tend to wear for only a couple of hours and have sheer coverage (as designed) and are non-drying.

Some of the original Matte shades have a stiffer, drier formula, while newer ones have a more velvety, silicone-feel to them, and the latter are creamier, more comfortable to wear, and easier to apply, but most Matte shades are quite pigmented and long-wearing, though some are drying.

The Amplified and Satin finishes tend to have good pigmentation, lightly creamy to moderately creamy consistencies with a bit of shine, and moderate to long wear with deeper, richer shades wearing longer. The Frost and Metallic finishes have the most variance between shades with coverage ranging from semi-sheer to opaque with average wear and non-drying to slightly drying formulas. All MAC lipsticks are vanilla-scented but have no discernible taste.

MAC Set to Sizzle Lipstick

Set to Sizzle

MAC Set to Sizzle Lipstick ($20.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a dusty, medium-dark coral with moderate, warm undertones and a lightly pearlized, luminous finish. It had good pigmentation in a single pass, which adhered fairly evenly but there was a smidgen of streaking along the outer edge due to the slip.

The consistency felt lightweight, creamy with a touch of tackiness, but it wasn’t too emollient that it was high-maintenance to wear. There was a smidgen of product that sank into my deeper lip lines when I looked back on the close-ups but wasn’t visible to me in person. It wore well for four and a half hours and felt moisturizing while worn.

MAC Wham Lipstick

Wham

MAC Wham Lipstick ($20.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a medium-dark plum with strong, warm undertones and a glittering finish that seemed like a mix of copper, pink, and gold glitter bits. It was a finer glitter, so while I could feel the glittery texture as it was applied, it wasn’t rough or uncomfortable to use or to wear.

It was less noticeable in texture on than in the tube, as I barely felt it when I pressed my lips together. The consistency was lightly emollient, lightweight, and had moderate slip but it wasn’t prone to settling noticeably into my lip lines. It had medium coverage that didn’t build up beyond that. It lasted well for four hours and felt lightly hydrating over time.

I was all mind made up that Set To Sizzle would be the one, and then I saw that MAC’s own See Sheer is a dupe! And probably not different enough to justify owning both.

The prettiest, most interesting shade is Wham. Something tells me that it’s a repromote, as the name sounds very familiar, but I could be wrong. Anywho, I just might grab this one because it looks so gorgeous worn!
