MAC Coral Lumineux Cream Colour Base Review, Photos, Swatches
MAC Coral Lumineux Cream Colour Base
MAC Coral Lumineux Cream Colour Base ($70.00 for 0.28 oz.) is described as a “vivid coral creme.” It’s a brightened, medium coral-orange with warm undertones and a satin finish. Guerlain Petrouchka #9 (LE) is a powder. Makeup Geek Summer Fling (P, $9.99) is lighter, powder. MAC Ocean City (LE, $30.00) is powder. YSL Corail Affranchi (07) (P, $40.00) is more orange. NARS Exumas (P, $39.00) is more matte. Make Up For Ever #420 HD Blush (P, $26.00) is darker. Make Up For Ever #410 HD Blush (P, $26.00) is pinker. Illamasqua Sleek (P, $26.00) is more muted, pinker. Chanel Presage (62) (LE, $38.00) is brighter. NYX Cinnamon (P, $5.00) is darekr, powder. MAC Out for Fun (LE, $20.00) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Not that this luxury holiday collection is a value proposition by any means, but regularly-sized and packaged Cream Colour Bases retail for $21.00 for 0.12 oz. or $175/oz., and this limited edition, over-sized version is $250/oz. It is over twice the amount of product in a regular CCB, though a little goes a long way. The compact is incredibly weighty–it’s probably not one you’d want to keep in a bag for on-the-go, because it is really that heavy–which does give it a more luxe and high-end feeling. It felt sturdy while still being functional. I found that this was less emollient than other Cream Colour Bases, which was a good thing, as it was longer-wearing at seven and a half hours, and yielded richer color payoff from the get-go. It looks more satin-to-matte applied once it sets and dries down.

It’s the packaging that made it more expensive, although I will still probably check it out. lol
I love Chanel Presage, and since it’s LE, I’m always on the lookout for a possible dupe, so I’m hoping this is one.
Love it on you Christine!
Thank you, Alyssa! 🙂
Chanel Presage looks like it’s permanent in Europe (at least in France), maybe you have friends or family there who could help you stock up?
I find it hard to know exactly where to place MAC’s CCBs .. are they highlighters or are they blushes! At $70 I don’t think ill buy something MAC which to me is more functional than luxury! Tom Ford is luxury! 🙂
Multi-purpose! So, this could be used as a blush or lip color!
I think it’s a beautiful product but there is no way I am going to spend $70 on it!
Totally understand!
Beautiful…but I can’t imagine paying that price for Mac unless it’s amazeballs and unique. Also looks like Mac’s Virgin Isle. PS–great site, as always; it’s like the Wiki of makeup for me.
Thank you, Lara!
Wait a minute: 70 bucks??? Wow. I like how it looks on you, but I probably can’t bring myself to spend 70 bucks on a cream blush….
I hear ya!
Man I wish I had $70 to drop on this…it’s gorgeous.
At least the packaging had some heft!
This is a beautiful blush but MAC has lost their minds with these prices. I understand its a couture collection but wasn’t Proenza Schouler considered couture too? This is nuts to me lol
You are definitely paying for packaging with this launch!
Oh 🙁 I didn’t want this before, but now…. It looks so pretty!!!!
Aww!
It sounds like the packaging is metal which I am glad to hear at this luxe price point. Hope to see what the shadow duos are like.
It feels like it! 🙂
That looks divine!
It is a pretty shade!
It looks gorgeous! The colour… The packaging… The price tag!? And I’m Canadian! That’s gonna be marked up even more. That said… I own MUG’s Summer Fling & MAC’s Ocean City already. I really can’t justify making that purchase, even though I shouldn’t expect less from a MAC x Prabal Gurung line.
You are covered! 🙂
I would not be surprised it around the $88CAN for it.
Agreed. How quickly do you think this will sell out though still?… Hah.
$70??? Not gonna happen! Very pretty shade, though!
I think $50 might have been less painful but still “luxury.”
That’s exactly what I said Christine, $50 would have been easier to swallow for that packaging because obviously the blush itself is way dupeable. Bummer I love the packaging tho…
This cream blush is gorgeous, and so is the packaging! Unfortunately it’s way too expensive for me, I don’t think I’d ever spend $70 on a blush.
It is very pricey!
It’s pretty, but it’s too big a size for a cream product (for someone with a generous sized makeup collection, anyway). I’ve barely made a dent in my Bobbi Brown pot rouges, and they’re the new smaller size. Bigger isn’t always better, particularly with short shelf life products.
I agree – I think that even though it may not be THAT much more per ounce, it is a ton of cream product, and cream products just don’t last anywhere near as long as a powder, so more isn’t always better.
I wonder if this is in any way similar to Revlon creme blush in coral reef? That would be a drugstore alternative if it’s close
It could be!
Oh my god. I think this is my new number one wish list item!
Oh, wow! 🙂
This shade is magnificent…besides the dupes you already mention, it also reminds me of MUFE’s cream blush in 410 Coral but this one has a sheen to it that that one doesn’t have. Gorgeous!
Thank you!
I looks really gorgeous, I’ll not buy it though as it is on the expensive side. So many holiday LE that I think would suit me better as this is a bit on the warm side anyway, for me.
The packaging and blush color are so gorgeous! The 70 dollar price tag is a turn off. I could only see picking it up for a special occasion! Beautiful color on you though!
Oh my… This is like the definition of beautiful. Apart from the price, I love everything about this product. The color is just so me!
Is it on both of your cheeks? thanks
I like this and that’s saying a LOT when you consider that I don’t like coral blushes nor do they suit me. However, the price….for a CCB???? Nah…
Wow! I have /never/ had a cream blush last that long on me. I guess you get what you pay for….
$ 70 for cream blush is a STEAL compared to $ 675 for nail polish! Ok, the color and the packaging looks great, but the price is just too much.
I love the color! Sometimes I hate being cool toned. I felt the same way about the Chanel dupe. The price is crazy, even though I like the packaging.
I’m glad this one works a little harder for its price, LOL! It looks lovely on you 😉 I agreee that whether or not a lot of the stuff in this collection is really ‘worth it’ (assuming a good product inside) is gonna depend hugely on how attractive the packaging is to the individual.
It looks lovely on you Christine, but I think it would clash with my red hair. It’s good to see that it is a great product though.
Hmmmm…can the package be re-purposed after the blush is gone? Do they offer refills? Do any of the other products fit this compact? It is stunning…
What I’m going to do to is after mine is done melt down 4 of my fave lipsticks in it and make a quad!
Okay.. read the bronzer post first and commented, but I’m absolutely aghast at the price point for this collection. Wonder what kind of stupid will prevail with the Canadian $ prices? So Not buying. Luxury: Tom Ford=Yes. MAC = No.
Did they take pointers from Louboutin?.. perhaps not or the packaging here might also be Bejewelled..
I agree with the majority here: Gorgeous product, but the price kills it.
Oh DREAM COOKIES Christine! It looks sooo dang beautiful on you. Reminds me of MAC’s Proenza Schouler LE blush in Coral- beautiful but so pigmented! A tough one to work with cause you can overdo it so easy. I might give in tho- I’m a fool for any and all LE collections. Love that case too!
Such a beautiful colour – too bad the price is so jacked up!
I love the product but the packaging not so much: I’m so tired of gold for Christmas… So if it was a permanent shade I would want it – at the price of the permanent ccbs!
That’s a beautiful colour! It looks so nice for the lip and cheek.
If I didn’t have both OC and Presage and it wasn’t $70… lol skip
Between this and the bronzer
Which one do you recommend?
As a Makeup collector I’m mainly buying for packaging! So I’m between the two
I’m NC30
I felt this is a nice shade.. I don’t usually wear cream blushes! But I can top it with warm blushersdon’t I?
Oh, this, because I did not like the bronzer. Additionally, the bronzer is available permanently.
I wouldn’t normally drop this much money on a product, but when I saw this @ MAC Update last month I about fell over !!! The compact is luxurious, a DEFINITE statement piece & the color … Oh my stars it is right up my ALLEY!!!! I have looked for this perfect coral creme “Scarlett O’Hara” just pinched your cheeks look. When I tested it I fell in LOVE. Eyes, lips & cheeks it’s such a gorgeous shade (I prefer it to Virgin Isle) & it really complimented my porcelain skin & blue eyes. It will last forever & when it’s gone I’ll store blot films or something in the golden gilded casel. I just reserved mine & I am SO happy!
omg i am so excited for this blush. what is your favorite item from the collection and why? Im still trying to debate if i want all three lipsticks, or two lipsticks and a lipgloss. $30 is a lot to pay for a lipgloss, especially is the packaging is not up to par. but not sure if my dark skin would go with that nude color lipstick, although it is very pretty 🙂
It’s beautiful, but I don’t know that it is $70 beautiful! 😮
