Wow – only $675 (US, I’m guessing)! Again, I’m thinking they’re all laughing behind their hands and going “Wait….let’s see how many we can sucker in at THIS price and next time, we can jack it up to $1,000 and wanna bet they’ll pay?” I could really get behind this if it were a fund-raiser for a really worthwhile charity (homelessness, children living in poverty, battered women) but purely as a sales “gimmick”, this strikes me as a bit obscene.

ITA! This should be something that is LE and available for a worthy social cause! I am really angered about this and it has turned me off from the brand completely.

Christine Avatar

It is interesting, because if you look at the markup on a pair of CL pumps for regular (patent leather) vs. strassed, it’s about 5x. The markup for the polish is 13.5x – and undoubtedly the polish bottle requires far less crystals. Having strassed my own heels before, you’re looking at more like 5,000+ crystals for a pair, so easily 3x the amount applied to the bottle, yet the mark-up is insane for regular vs. strassed for the polish.

robyn Avatar

Honestly I don’t see how you can be that annoyed over this. Yes, it’s stupidly expensive but so are the brands shoes. You can’t presume someone who has $700 to spend on polish never gives to charity!

StrangeOne Avatar

Eh? That looks like a tacky mess. The packaging is not to my taste so maybe I would like the whole idea more if it were (obviously it should be accompanied by actual liquid gold to justify the price.)

helen Avatar

REALLY????? This is ridiculous teetering on the verge of insane!!!! (IMHO). I’ll be very curious to read if any of your loyal readers will be investing in this. I find it almost appalling (too harsh?). It’s nail polish!!

Smidge Avatar

I’d take unspangled Louboutins over a sparkly bottle of nail polish in a pretty box any day, Red is just red on your fingers but the shoes are unmistakable style with every step.

Carrie Avatar

Exactly, I’m not a shoe girl at ALL, but if you gave me $700 bucks and said my choices were the polish or a pair of the shoes, I’d go with the shoes all day.

Ok. I’m sorry …I love high end makeup and shoes and fashion and all that jazz. I can’t afford most of the super high end designer merchandise but I do love to admire it. However I don’t care who you are or how famous you may be or how fancy the package is there is no way on this earth that I would throw down 675.00 bucks for nail polish…….no way even if I was a super billionaire and the idea of a budget made me laugh. Seriously? Who does this guy think he is? 675 dollars is almost what I pay to rent me place….wonder if it will sell out……..

Brenda Avatar

my jaw just hit the floor when I saw the price tag. I expected a lot but really?? I can buy a whole pair of Louboutin shoes for less than that (I know, I checked).

Estefania Avatar

….is he SERIOUS. Six hundred dollars for a nail polish in a pretty box???

I don’t think Christian Louboutin understands how beauty and makeup businesses work. It’s not like shoes or handbags, where craftsmanship can and should be factored into the price. While I may care that the appliqués on my shoes were handmade, I don’t care what my nail polish cap is covered in.

This is absolutely ridiculous. That’s about half the price of a pair of Louboutin heels. FOR NAIL POLISH.

Ilovemakeup Avatar

I just took one look at the price and literally said out loud, “LOL, Nope.” I don’t think I’ll buy the CL regular nail polishes, much less $675 which could go to any number of necessities for my house and car.

If you can afford it and want it, go for it! It’s definitely not for me, though.

Pre Avatar

I’ve seen things with much better/ prettier packaging for MUCH MUCH LESS. Nothing justifies this price tag. Not the packaging, not the name, not the quality of the nail polish itself. It’s just basically the ‘hand-applied Strass crystals’ that makes the price so expensive. Which frankly looks cheap and tacky to me anyway, I don’t care if it’s high end crystals or cheap glue-on bits you can get at a craft store, it’s super tacky.

kisha Avatar

did anybody else just blankly STARE at the price tag as if there was to be a decimal after the 7??? im here for the comments doh lol cuz I dmn sure would think WHO is paying that price vs getting the actual red bottom shoes…**glances over to pick which formula x polish to use**

Bronwyn Avatar

Gorgeous, but potentially someone could have a regular C L polish and just bedazzle it themselves. Also, the price point is just beyond ridiculous. Though I am someone who’s only bought drugstore level polishes and is weary of whether high end ones will actually be better quality.

Sylirael Avatar

Ehehe. I feel like it’s the kind of thing I’d go and look at in store, purely out of curiosity!

I’m not sure what there is to get too worked up about though. This is not a nail polish. It’s a piece of CL ‘design’ that is geared toward hardcore collectors only (if anyone). I’m convinced the only reason this is stocked at Sephora (and not CL boutiques or something) is because Sephora knew people would react to such a provocatively priced item, and are counting on it drawing people to the store to gawk, who will then spend a nice packet of money on other things that seem incredibly reasonably priced in comparison! 😀

*takes of cynic hat*

robyn Avatar

I agree. It’s a marketing tool, they probably haven’t even made that many. Even though thier regular polishes don’t need it, it was probably made to boost the sales of those by making them look cheaper in comparison or just to draw attention the brand.

Nan Avatar

I wonder that if by releasing the $675 bottle of polish, it increases sales of the $50 polishes — you know, because folks are suddenly GRATEFUL that the “regular” polishes are “so cheap?” It could very well be a brilliant marketing ploy to boost holiday sales…

Veronica Avatar

Honestly, I can’t be too judgemental. The $50 I blew on Guerlain Gigolo is more than some people in the world see in a month, so extravagance always had a context. For some people, $700 is a drop in the hat.

Diana Ferrell Avatar

OFCOL! ( Oh for crying out loud!!) people buy things they do not need, with money they do not have, to impress people they do not know! Stop catering to this kind of insanity girls!!

Joanna Avatar

Nail polish is the most disposable of all beauty products. And it doesn`t last forever.

If you have that kind of money kicking around, just buy the shoes.

I just can`t with this.

Alexandra Aimee Avatar

I’m not one for saying things are too expensive, because different people spend different amounts on different things, and that’s OK! But $700 for a nail polish?! Honestly, it would have to sing clean my house and take me on a cruise to Jamaica to be worth that… And I’m someone who doesn’t bat an eye at Gurlain and Marc Jacobs. This just seems a little…. silly.

Quinn Avatar

Lmao rich people cray tho. It’s basically a status symbol, it’s not about how the product works, it’s about a. having it and b. people knowing you can afford it. The more exclusive the item, the smaller the buyer pool, the more rich people want it to prove they have the cash to burn. It’s… sad, distressing and really kinda gross.

Safe to say a lot of us won’t be buying this because we’re not within the economic frame to so much as smell the fumes from this polish.

Candice Avatar

That’s CRAZY and not in a good way! Wow, I can’t even imagine which customers this is geared towards… People who have more money than they know what to do with I guess.

Susie Avatar

This is so ludicrous that you have to laugh. I literally bought a car once for less than the price of this nail polish! Btw, I love your site and appreciate all the hard work that must go into it.
