MAC Colored Zoom Lash Mascara
I reviewed Green is Green initially, and here are swatches of the other three shades, as well as the mascaras worn on lashes. I actually found that Green is Green did the best at coating lashes, with Blue Charge close behind. Plum Reserve and High Esteem didn’t coat my lashes as effectively and didn’t give them much color.
Blue Charge is darker than Themyscira, while Plum Reserve is darker and purpler than Victorious. I think you’ll notice less color difference when they are worn, though, but swatched, their differences are easily seen.
my thoughts on the mascara formula: Zoom Lash is supposed to “build density,” while the “ultra-sculpted brush has three-sided fibres to embrace and separate each lash.” My favorite MAC mascara is Plushlash, but I used to use Zoom Lash for quite a bit (because Plushlash didn’t exist). I like how it’s a really thick formula–thick as in it really coats each lash really well in the formula but without clumping. Zoom Lash, being a thicker consistency, will clump if you start going beyond two coats, though. (In my experience, you shouldn’t need more than two.) Zoom Lash separates and defines lashes while thickening them for me. I didn’t have any issues with the mascara flaking or smudging on me.

High Esteem looks black? Is there a difference between High Esteem and the normal Zoom Lash?
High Esteem is gray!
Leesha from xsparkage has also swatched high esteem on her lashes but shes blonde so it turns up more, check it out
Thanks much. You barely see any colour at all. Agreed on the Green on Green. Much better than the rest.
I wonder how these would look on me sine I have naturally pale lashes. I have never used colored mascara before and am curious!
They’d definitely pop more! I have pretty black lashes, but if you have lighter lashes, it’ll be easier for the colors to come through.
I’ve never seen a gray mascara before, so I’m really curious about that. I’ve been using the regular black Zoom Lash for the first time and I’m surprised at how much I like it. It definitely makes your lashes pop.
Thanks for the photos and review, Christine. It reminds me why I don’t bother much with coloured mascaras. I had some hope for High Esteem, since it supposedly had a kind of shimmer, but I don’t see any of these really warranting a purchase atm.
Does anyone know how long unopened mascara will keep? I have, am using and love all the colored mascaras from Wonder Woman, was thinking of getting this as backups and saving them until I run out of the WW ones.
Probably a year or two as long as you don’t open them – possibly longer!
I like the way the purple looks!
Hi Christine,
I have a tech issue rather than a makeup comment. I subscribe to your RSS feed to keep updated on your posts (can’t say enough good things about RSS). Works fine in general – I can see the swatches and look breakdowns and everything. The only thing that doesn’t show up is the ratings, but only since you moved to the new ratings scheme. On the site you have this nice purple table/graphic breakdown of the Glossover, but in the RSS feed, there is just text with no score (e.g. “PIGMENTATION : /10”) I thought the techie bf might want to know. Maybe you could get him a philosophy shower gel if he could look into it 🙂
Thanks!
Shannon
It shows up in the email RSS feed – it doesn’t have all the styling, but it does show up, including the scores! What RSS reader are you using?
I’m using Google Reader and I have a similar complaint. The Glossometer doesn’t show with the nice pink design – it’s plain text, althought it does come with the actual results. The old rating system would come exactly like it showed on the website.
We can’t do anything about that, because it is hard coded into the site. I’m sorry! We don’t have much control over how other readers display the feed.
I’m using google reader as well. Just wanted to let you know that today’s review of the Surf Baby eyeshadows did have the ratings included, although not in the fancy pink design.
We don’t have control over how Google displays the feed.
I don’t have that problem with my RSS reader; her scores show up just fine.
Unfortunately, I actually have a different problem. 🙁 for some reason, only the newest *3* posts will actually be displayed. I don’t know if that’s how it’s supposed to be, but I dislike it since I know I end up missing posts!
I’m using Pulse Reader on an iPhone. None of my other feeds have so few stories/posts; I can swipe left/right through at least a dozen (probably more).
I like the blue and purple and I use an eye lash primer so, like you said, they will pop even more. I think I have to wait till they come out next month in Europe!
I hope you don’t mind me asking but what moisturiser do you use? I wish I could get the skin around my eyes to look as nice as yours! 🙁
Christine- You have CRAZY GORGEOUS hazel eyes!! Super cool pattern in them!
Which color do you think will bring out blue eyes with blonde lashes, purple or blue? Or neither? Thanks! 🙂
Thanks for the swatches – it helps kill my lemming XD.
Out of curiosity, though, what (if any) colored mascara that you’ve tried gives good color payoff? Particularly blues and/or purples?
I’ve tried a colored mascara from LA Splash in red, which was surprisingly pigmented even on my bare (DARK) lashes, but of course that’s not an indicator that other colors will be just as saturated/noticeable. The color addict in me just won’t let go of the idea of colored mascara, haha.
i wonder if a primer like mac prep and prime for lashes was used first if itd make the lashes that much brighter??
I’m actually here to comment about the same thing as Shannon R. I was scrolling through the page looking for some sort of “contact me” button and noticed her comment (I gave up looking when I saw it haha). I’m not sure if I’m subscribed by RSS (I get the daily email) or not, but I have the exact same problem that she does. Ever since you updated your layout for the rating system, I can’t see the actual rating. To answer the question you asked her, I don’t really know about an RSS feeder, but I do read it in Yahoo mail.
I took a screenshot of what it looks like in my email.

Is it me or the mascaras arent too pigmented?
I’d love to try the blue one. My eyes are smack in-between blue/green/gray, and normally makeup that is intended to “bring out the blue!” is straight up… ugly blue eyeshadow. All of the blue mascara I’ve seen out there is NOT subtle.
IN SHORT, lol, Blue Charge might look good.
I wished they had made the mascara from a collection last year permenant (it was a small one around the same time as champale) because it was a nice colour 🙁
was that the new hue one from stylishly yours? i wish i’d gotten that one…
bought the green..shows up and its the best for dark brown eyes.
Woo I think I prefer the purple one its just awesome! Thanks for swatching!
I was looking forward to this, but now I’m not so sure. The mascaras seem very sheer and thin. I can barely see the colors in your eyelashes except for one dot here and there. Truth is they did nothing to your eyelashes. Could you please post new fotos using a eyelash primer so we can check the difference? Thanks! :}
I don’t really…get dark gray mascara…either go colored or go black, damnit!
cool
Where can you buy this Mascara?
It was limited edition.
are these the same as the mascara that got released with beth ditto?
Yes!
