Coffee and Cigs

MAC Coffee and Cigs Love Me Liquid Lipcolour ($24.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark brown with subtle, warm undertones and a satin finish. It had opaque color coverage in a single stroke, which adhered evenly and smoothly to my lips without catching on lip texture imperfections.

The consistency was lightweight, smooth, and fluid with a velvety feel that wasn’t too slippery but was easy to work with. It stayed on nicely for six and a half hours and felt hydrating over time.

Formula Overview

$24.00/0.1 oz. - $240.00 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to be long-wearing with 12-hour hydration, comfort, and feather-resistant and non-bleeding wear. They are supposed to have "one-swipe, full coverage colour."

It's a liquefied lipstick that has a smooth, creamy consistency with moderate glide and more of a velvety-creamy feel, so it was never watery but not overly thick. This is not a liquid lipstick that dries down to a matte finish after a few seconds (or even a minute); they have a creamier, moderate shine initially that wears down to satin and eventually semi-matte as they wear on. They don't "dry down," though, and as a result, they are very comfortable to wear. This also means that they are not transfer-proof, but they pack enough color that there is plenty of product and still full-coverage left behind after drinking and light eating.

They applied with full color coverage and went on evenly (for the most part) without emphasizing lip texture or lip lines. The wear-time claimed--12 hours--is a lot, but most shades lasted between six and eight hours with a few leaving enough stain and color behind not to require a reapplication. The lighter the shade, the shorter the wear time, which is common.

They were comfortable to wear with a moderately hydrating feel, and they are the type of liquid lipstick I tend to reach for--something longer-wearing but still very comfortable. As they are creamier and a little thicker, it's important to remove any excess from the inner areas of the lips or to apply less and build up as necessary or else they tend to show up on teeth initially. I didn't have this recur throughout wear, though. There was a faint, vanilla scent but no discernible taste.

Bated Breath

MAC Bated Breath Love Me Liquid Lipcolour ($24.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a plummy brown with subtle, warm undertones and a cream finish. It was slightly more slippery and a touch more fluid than other shades in the range, so I’d recommend using a little less product for the initial application and only adding more as necessary, otherwise it could get a little streaky. It had rich color payoff that applied evenly, though, and it lasted well for six and a half hours while feeling moisturizing.

Oh the play on these names one could have: “coffee & cigs, hated breath!”
As much as I REALLY hate the name, I love the Coffee & Cigs shade. But, no, not with that awful name. For reference: ex-smoker, quit 28 years ago after having been a human smokestack for 17+ years.

I totally agree with you that it’s a horrible name for a lipstick. It’s glamorizing smoking. My dad died from smoking. It unconscionable for MAC to glibly name this lipstick by that name. Nancy is right, it’s a beautiful color but I’ll give it a hard pass.

Coffee and Cigs is the most interesting color for me. When I read all these shades descriptions together at once, I can see “Coffee and Cigs and Bad Breath”, lol.

I love both of these shades, with Coffee and Cigs coming out my preferred colour. There’s something about browny/red shades that I really love.
